Date? In the near future. Location? Planet earth. Midnight hour is the sequel to Celeste Perrino Walker and Eric Stoffle's book Eleventh Hour. It is an action and suspense-filled story about the time of the end, from a unique perspective. You follow the individual experiences of several main characters as they live through the events preceding the Second Coming of Christ. It is a book that I found hard to put down. The story begins in the book Eleventh Hour with sinister forces plotting to take over the American Government in the name of God. The story ends in Midnight Hour, where you see the United States falling deeper and deeper into spiritual turmoil. The earth is racked with so much devastation and destruction that it seems as though it will soon destroy itself. This book awakens people to the events that may happen in the near future. It is a little hard to follow in the beginning because it jumps from person to person a lot and there are many main characters, but it is definately a book worth reading if you like end-time stories. Be sure to start with the Eleventh Hour.

In this book the story that was started in 11th Hour is brought to a conclusion. The Secret organization out to destroy the followers of GOD scome to full power and GODs people are persecuted.

Then the truth is made know, facts are made clear and just when there is no hope left... a small cloud appears on the horizon, and riding on it comes JESUS HIMself. It is finished. Time to go Home.

A must read for anyone over 12 years old, after reading the first book. You will not be able to put it down.

A "must-have" resource for every practicing attorney whose work takes him into the sphere of bankruptcy law

"Attorney Liability in Bankruptcy" is a "must-have" resource for every practicing attorney whose work takes him into the sphere of bankruptcy law. Filled from cover to cover with up-to-date (as of 2006) critical letters and forms needed to comply with recent legal changes and the imperatives of the new bankruptcy law, Attorney Liability in Bankruptcy covers everything from dealing with creditors' lawyers to bankruptcy ethics issues to reaffirming debt after bankruptcy and much more. An accompanying CD-ROM with letters that can be quickly modified to suit appropriate situations and jurisdictions, Attorney Liability in Bankruptcy is easy-to-use, utterly invaluable resource, and also recommended for lay readers seeking to brush up on legal changes before consulting an expensive bankruptcy attorney. No general practice law office can afford to be without a copy of "Attorney Liability in Bankruptcy" in their professional reference library.

An Excellent Introduction to Millerism and Early Adventism!

This book is essential for those interested in the Millerite Movement and the development of the Adventist denominations: primarily (but not exclusively) the Advent Christian Church and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. George Knight, an Adventist himself, writes very clearly, and in an entertaining style. The work draws heavily on primary sources, and often reads like a screenplay! I especially appreciated the extensive footnoting, which allowed me to check and retrace Knight's historical work. Knight does an excellent job of portraying the Millerites not as heretics or lunatics, but as Christians passionately devoted to the "Blessed Hope," their belief in the immanent return of Jesus Christ. Knight's one weakness lies in his treatment of the recent history and current state of the Advent Christian denomination. Overall, this is an invaluable resource!

First after reading around the historical bookshelves on the 1844 Advent Movement I stumbled into "Millennial Fever" by George R. Knight. This book is simply great. Apparently, Millennial Fever arises out of an academic environment, perhaps a PhD dissertation (it doesn's say so in the preface). The historical material has that sound, intellectual feel, and quality of research like "Burned-Over District" by Whitney Cross. Knight is an extremely effective story teller. He will keep your interest once you begin reading right up to the end of the book. This might be a shallow concern. But I noticed it is printed by a church press, and thereby some parts of the story possibly controlled since the book does cover the origin of the Seventh-day Adventist. Church presses don't tolerate historical issues that make their "story" murky. But Knight certainly doesn't appear to cover up or distort the facts with the usual restrictions to stay the "course of truth." Knight presents the historical facts and issues so well you end up with a solid understanding why things are today in evangelical christianity. For the narrow time band of historical coverage this book measures up to Whitney Cross' burned-over district in detail and impact. It is comparable quality of research.

Insights on Personality, Development, Nature vs Nurture
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-17
This is one of the best compilations of Ellen White's writings on a specific subject. This book shows that Ellen White (1827-1915) was way ahead of her times in the area of psychology. Even before psychology had become acceptable science, she had experience with the basic fundamentals of psychology and sociology. This book should be required reading for all Christians who work with people, whether you are a parent, teacher, pastor, counselor, social worker or whatever.

Ellen White had amazing insights in the area of personality traits and personality development, the issue of nature and nurture in character formation, mental health, and behavioral modification. While I'm sure she might have reflected some of the current thinking of her times, she still was ahead of her time considering the fact that a lot of the issues she dealt very well with were confirmed by the sciences a century later.

Volume 1 (which is what I've read so far) deals with the study of the mind, how religion helps the mind, emotions, prenatal influence on character formation, parental influence, nature vs. nurture, love, infatuation, sexuality, self-respect, dependence and independence (an important topic), guilt, doubt, marriage, principles of motivation, and principles of education, study and learning.

UPDATE: I previously had doubts about the idea of "prenatal influence on character formation." This was written at the turn of the century, and it certainly did not sound very scientific. BUT, I just attended a panel discussion at Notre Dame between biologists and ethicists, and a study was described that proves that there apparently is a prenatal influence on character formation. Ellen White was way ahead of her time!

This is an execellent book. The author is truly inspired by God. She addresses practically every conflict or controversy that may arise in life. Anywhere from concerns of the roles of a husband and wife in a marriage to how a single person can survive as a Christian or, even how diet effects an individual's mind and spirit. I had searched high and low for this publication. After reading a friend's copy I had to purchase my own personal copy. I think every Christian should have this book as part of their home library.

The importance of policies!

As a partner with a CPA firm in Annapolis, MD, our firm has several not-for-profit clients. One of their most serious deficiences is the lack of formal, board-approved accounting and financial policies and procedures.

Our experience has been that formal policies, in addition to eliminating misunderstandings between the CEO, the CFO and the board is that they are invaluable in the event of an IRS audit.

When advising our clients of the importance of these policies, we found that compiling policies from scratch was a very time-consuming process.

We found the answer - McMillan's "Model Accounting & Financial Policies and Procedures Handbook". This book addresses every conceivable policy from Access to Records by Members to the Year-End Manual and everything in between! Additionally, the CD Rom that is included with the book results in completing an otherwise onerous task with a minimum of effort.

We use it at our firm and we highly recommend it to our clients!

This is a wonderful book for your young reader. I bought this book for my daughter because the collie and her share the same name. Much to my delight I was glad I ordered it for her, it is absolutely adorable. Molly's job is learning how to round animals up in a herd. "She has the ducks march in a row, but snail can't march -- he's way too slow." The story (words) are easy for anyone to read and say .

The colors in this book are bright and bold. The pages are easy to turn for any young reader. But the part that we like best, is that you can wag Molly's tail. At the top of the books binding is a little red tail that wags. Within the book they tell the reader to wag her tail. For example "Molly likes to be friendly. Wag her tail to say hello."

This book has been an excellent addition to our book collection. I hope that this review was helpful to you. We would highly recommend this book for any young reader.

This sampling of Swanwick's work include seven stories, a play, essays and even some speeches, providing examples of the wide range of Swanwick's style and subjects. From collaborations with others to Swanwick's art alone, this provides very different themes and tones in such notable works as 'Ancestral Voices', in which an alien being kills humans at will until one woman's unselfish act saves her world to 'Ships', in which a ship's captain holds the power to alter all around him. A powerful gathering of Swanwick's notable pieces.

An eclectic collection of short stories, articles & a play

Review Date: 2000-05-14
Michael Swanwick's latest collection of 16 science fiction and fantasy stories, articles, and even a play is a fine sampling of his work over the last dozen years. The predominant theme running through much of this volume is death and the afterlife, although the stories range from the hard science fiction embodied by the lunar colony portrayed in Griffin's Egg and the alien invasion in Ancestral Voices to the gritty fantasy tale, Ships, set on the high seas. His seamless collaborations with such diverse writers as Gardner Dozois, Jack Dann, and the late Avram Davidson demonstrate his versatility. The thoughtful nonfiction pieces provide an insider's perspective on writers and literary trends in the genre.

On the science of multiple identities
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-03
I am a former student of Professor Spanos and worked closely with him and Dr. Lorne Bertrand at Carleton University to formulate his approach to understanding the phenomenon of multiple personality disorder during the mid-1980s. MPD or DID
(Dissociative Identity Disorder) as it is now called remains a very controversial diagnosis. If you are interested in learning more about this bizarre condition and you are skeptical by nature you will enjoy this book. Nick was one of the most analytical and clear thinkers whom I have ever met and worked with. In this book, he systematically develops the argument that a variety of social, cognitive, and other psychological and situational factors account for how and why some people present this way and come to think of themselves as having multiple identities--rather than some kind of elusive dissociating of the mind.

If you are tired of reading hocum and "pop" psychology and are looking for a truly scientific review of this phenomenon by one of the greatest and most prolific social psychologists who ever lived I highly recommend this book to you.

Check out Nick's other work on hypnosis, witchcraft, and demonic possession. By the time of his death, Nick had developed an enormous bibliography of scientific articles, chapters, and books. Many of his research designs and methodologies were truly brilliant.

Dr Nicholas P. Spanos was an excellent researcher, a prolific writer and an incredible scientist. Dr Spanos provides a cogent, credible and a scientific explanation for multiple personality disorders and false memory syndrome, among others. His convincing, documented accounts return analyses to a scientific realm rather than the halls of medical sooth sayers with special insights.

This book has been an incredible resource for my research on my thesis work. In addition to that, I have learned MANY creative ways to help the students that I work with learn to read. Armstrong takes Gardner's theory of MI's and puts into an easy-to-read, easy-to-use format for teachers and parents to help children that my be struggling to learn to read and write through conventional methods. I would strongly recommend this book to parents, teachers, and students who are aspiring to become teachers.
