I purchased this book to use as our Guest Book at our wedding this summer. Our wedding and reception are at a golf course, so we thought this would be a fitting book for our guests to sign. There are many beautiful pictures, and plenty of space for them to write their wishes. For our purposes, I absolutely love the book! I recommend it to anyone - I think it's a great coffee table read!

This deluxe volume covers each of the courses on the PGA Tour and has several full color pictures of key holes on each course covered. Since some PGA tour events are replaced by new ones, the book may become slightly dated but, nonetheless, it is a great spectator's guide for those who watch the tour each week on TV or who occasionally attend tour events in person. The volume also includes a great map of each course covered. This is useful because it puts the course in perspective, For example, I have seen the famous 13th hole at Augusta National on TV many times but never appreciated how sharp a dogleg it is until seeing the map. Also, the map shows the direction each hole runs in relation to other holes. For example one hole may go out and the next hole come back in the opposite direction. The maps give you this perspective. Another great feature of the book is a short piece written by a golfer who has won the tournament played on that course. I highly recommend this wonderful book.

An Original Gem. A must for your Gluten Free Cookbook collection!!!

Full of homey and quick recipes. This book was published in 1976. Perhaps one of the first of it's kind. The author realized most celiacs did not only have cookbooks, but also did not have most of the information they needed about their condition. Her husband was a celiac and she had researched it extensively. It not only has several recipes, but is also loaded with the authors research on celiacs. Much of this research seems to have gotten lost by the medical community. Imagine my surprise to find the author had noted other conditions that a gluten free diet seemed to help...and autism was included. Apparently there was research published in 1971 showing a connection with autism, considered a rare disorder at the time, gi tract problems and celiacs. The study seemed to get a great response from a gluten free diet! So for almost 40 years this diet has been shown to help autistics and it is still not a part of conventional medicine! It's as interesting to read as it is to cook from. If you like to read your cookbooks you'll love this one!

This is an excellent book for those wanting to move to a gluten free diet. While the transition can be difficult, this book makes it easy to learn how to do it and what to do. It has recipes to help and a good description of foods to avoid and is easy to understand. The recipes are easy to prepare.

My church group read this book together. What a great experience! We all enjoyed the book. And the reflection questions at the end of the chapters stimulated lots of good discussion. O'Connell really knows how to put important things into ordinary language.

O'Connell moves so well between scholarly ideas and the world of ordinary people. The language is friendly, the tone is welcoming. And the issues, from sex to money, are the kinds of things we're all concerned about. I found the "Points to Ponder" in each chapter to be very powerful.

I purchased this book for my girlfriend as visiting the North Rim has been a dream of hers for many years. The pictures are breathtaking and the book is filled with tons of valuable information. I will have to take her to the North Rim this next year! Very good book, a must read/view if ever planning a trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Only 10% of Grand Canyon visitors visit the North Rim. This may be a good thing for those of us who find the patio of the North Rim Lodge to hold the best wooden rustic chairs in the West for enjoying a great view, a picnic, or a book--hopefully, a book about the Grand Canyon. If readers wanted to read about the North Rim, they've had few choices, until now. This book brings out why the North Rim is so different from the South Rim. It's canyon views are different, its forests and meadows are different, its human history is different, and its lack of traffic is different. This book also explores the Arizona Strip lands you'll pass through on your way to the North Rim.

A Special Gift

Review Date: 2003-06-23
The United States has seen some turbulent times in its history, especially for African Americans. Granddaddy's Gift highlights one aspect of American history, the African American struggle for the right to vote. The stars of this touching story are Joe Morgan and his granddaughter whom he calls "Daughter" but everyone else in their community affectionately calls "Little Joe" because she is like his shadow. Joe Morgan is a man that has worked hard all his life and in spite of his 8th grade education, he owns his own land on which he farms and raises animals. He stresses the importance of education to his granddaughter through both his words and actions. When it comes time for someone in their Mississippi community to stand up and attempt to register to vote, Joe Morgan answers the call. As a result of his decision he, his family and ultimately the entire African American community are faced with adversity, but in the process he teaches his granddaughter some important lessons.

Granddaddy's Gift illustrates how the freedoms that many of us take for granted are indeed a gift from the generations before us. The illustrations perfectly complement this keenly written story and add a personal touch. The story instills a sense of pride in the legacy left behind by ordinary but brave people that helped to change the cultural climate of this country. I highly recommend this book, not only because it relates historical information but also because of the values the story represents.

In my research for our Customer Advocacy initiative, I've looked at a number of resources, including several books. Of the materials I've read, Gallagher's book is the best. The book is filled with practical advice and many examples for building good customer relationships. Highly recommended for anyone interested in improving customer service.

A Communication Handbook for all Seasons

Review Date: 2006-06-20
In his new book Great Customer Connections, Rich Gallagher has done us all a favor by calling our attention to the need for a more positive approach to dealing with customers, service people, and indeed everyone in our lives. Positive behavior generates positive results. Speaking from a strong understanding of behavioral psychology, Rich's tenets and the vignettes in his book generate a wonderful teaching manual for customer service situations and indeed for communicating in our day to day lives.

A book directed toward business ethics and customer service, I see this book as also a way to teach something we sometimes forget: basic manners when dealing with others. I'm all for encouraging communication skills and re-instigating the use of "Please," and "Thank you," and "May I help you?" in our day to day lives. Gallagher notes that those businesses that are most successful are the ones that provide excellent customer service, that treat all people at all levels in the company with respect, and that know how to react with class to both positive as well as challenging situations. Great Customer Connections is a fabulous learning tool for teaching these communication success strategies.

Wonderful and Exciting Spaceflight Photographs

Review Date: 2003-02-17
The Association of Space Explorers is a unique group of individuals whose only requirement for membership is that one has to have journeyed into space. The goal of the ASE is to bring the excitement and wonder of space exploration to the general public. This book, "The Greatest Adventure" is their second book dedicated to this ideal, and is an excellent companion to their first book, "The Home Planet."

This coffee table book presents some of the best photographs taken of the Earth and a few of the Moon by both astronauts and cosmonauts, from the early days of the space race till the mid-1990's when this book was published. Due to the coffee table format of the book, the high resolution, color photographs are extremely impressive. Accompanying these wonderful photographs is a small piece describing each astronaut's voyage and impression of being in space which includes the entire range of astronauts, from commanders, pilots and mission specialists.

New printings of this book are common, so if it is listed as not being in print, check back frequently, because a new print might be out soon.

ONE OF BEST ALL-TIME BOOKS DONE ON APOLLO/MOON

Review Date: 2000-06-30
Ive read over200 books about Project Apollo to the Moon, and I have to rate this book as one of the best ever on moon landings, and all involved with this miraculous adventure of mankind! The book tells just about everything, covers it all about the missions and has many good excerpts from all the great astronauts from past to present! This is one of the few Apollo/Moon books that deserves an extra special place on anyones coffee table! This book deserves not to be merely looked at, but can be read many times over! I do not own it yet, but have read it twice, and cant wait to purchase it! Ed Gibson and The Association Of Space Explorers have done a wonderful job on this fantastic book of just what the title implies: Going to The Moon was in fact, and still is mankinds greatest adventure to this day, and probably will be for many years to come yet!

A comprehensive history by the guys who lived it

Review Date: 2008-11-30
Grey Geese Calling was printed at the behest of the 11th Bombardment Group (h) Association in 1981. It had a limited printing of 1000 copies and each copy was inscribed with a number on the title page. Most copies were purchased by members of the association. Its limited printed number as well as its value to families of members probably have a lot to do why it is so hard to find.

The 11th Bomb group Association was founded in 1961, the year of their first reunion. It was the brainchild of Robert E. May and made up of former members of the 11th Bomb group who served in World War 2. The association, so far as I can tell, no longer exists, having been rolled into another larger overarching organization. The slow passing of its members likely has a lot to do with this.

My grandfather was both a member of the group (ground personnel) and the association and upon his death in 1992, this book came into my hands. Like many of the Grey Geese, he was at Hickam on Dec 7, 1941.

The book, which contains detailed information about the operations of the 11th bomb group was the product of the association and its members, edited by W.M. Cleveland. It contains, among other things, a detailed account of the group's various squadrons, personal remembrances of many of its members as well as some contemporary news reports. It also contains hundreds of photographs unlikely to be seen elsewhere, including bomber nose art.

What it ends up being is a valuable resource. No-where else have I found so much detail about the 11th Bombardment Group and its doings. In most places, its actions are given a side note and rarely covered in much detail. Here things are presented with a great deal of information. I can't say to the accuracy of it all, but some effort was apparently made by the editors to get it right. I'm not a historian, so I can't say to the validity of all the information inside, but the personal remembrances and other details makes this book valuable to anyone interested in this aspect of the Pacific War.

I was very fortunate to find one of these books new. It was a great surprise to be reading the book and find the same photo that my father had from his time in the Pacific. He was at Hickam on Dec. 7, 1941.

My father is on page Nine, and his own copy of the photo has all the mens names on it including his. He is siting in the front row with a helmet at his feet. I believe it is page 15 he is pictured again talking to a Co Pilot in the B-17 Tokyo Taxi.

If you can find one it is great book on the Pacific Theater too much is written of the 8 TH Air corp and Too little of the 7 TH Air corp. This book goes a long with in correcting this error in our history.
