A Special GiftReview Date: 2003-06-23
Granddaddy's Gift illustrates how the freedoms that many of us take for granted are indeed a gift from the generations before us. The illustrations perfectly complement this keenly written story and add a personal touch. The story instills a sense of pride in the legacy left behind by ordinary but brave people that helped to change the cultural climate of this country. I highly recommend this book, not only because it relates historical information but also because of the values the story represents.

A Communication Handbook for all SeasonsReview Date: 2006-06-20
A book directed toward business ethics and customer service, I see this book as also a way to teach something we sometimes forget: basic manners when dealing with others. I'm all for encouraging communication skills and re-instigating the use of "Please," and "Thank you," and "May I help you?" in our day to day lives. Gallagher notes that those businesses that are most successful are the ones that provide excellent customer service, that treat all people at all levels in the company with respect, and that know how to react with class to both positive as well as challenging situations. Great Customer Connections is a fabulous learning tool for teaching these communication success strategies.

Wonderful and Exciting Spaceflight PhotographsReview Date: 2003-02-17
This coffee table book presents some of the best photographs taken of the Earth and a few of the Moon by both astronauts and cosmonauts, from the early days of the space race till the mid-1990's when this book was published. Due to the coffee table format of the book, the high resolution, color photographs are extremely impressive. Accompanying these wonderful photographs is a small piece describing each astronaut's voyage and impression of being in space which includes the entire range of astronauts, from commanders, pilots and mission specialists.
New printings of this book are common, so if it is listed as not being in print, check back frequently, because a new print might be out soon.

A comprehensive history by the guys who lived itReview Date: 2008-11-30
The 11th Bomb group Association was founded in 1961, the year of their first reunion. It was the brainchild of Robert E. May and made up of former members of the 11th Bomb group who served in World War 2. The association, so far as I can tell, no longer exists, having been rolled into another larger overarching organization. The slow passing of its members likely has a lot to do with this.
My grandfather was both a member of the group (ground personnel) and the association and upon his death in 1992, this book came into my hands. Like many of the Grey Geese, he was at Hickam on Dec 7, 1941.
The book, which contains detailed information about the operations of the 11th bomb group was the product of the association and its members, edited by W.M. Cleveland. It contains, among other things, a detailed account of the group's various squadrons, personal remembrances of many of its members as well as some contemporary news reports. It also contains hundreds of photographs unlikely to be seen elsewhere, including bomber nose art.
What it ends up being is a valuable resource. No-where else have I found so much detail about the 11th Bombardment Group and its doings. In most places, its actions are given a side note and rarely covered in much detail. Here things are presented with a great deal of information. I can't say to the accuracy of it all, but some effort was apparently made by the editors to get it right. I'm not a historian, so I can't say to the validity of all the information inside, but the personal remembrances and other details makes this book valuable to anyone interested in this aspect of the Pacific War.

Wonderful Surprise!Review Date: 2008-04-19
My father is on page Nine, and his own copy of the photo has all the mens names on it including his. He is siting in the front row with a helmet at his feet. I believe it is page 15 he is pictured again talking to a Co Pilot in the B-17 Tokyo Taxi.
If you can find one it is great book on the Pacific Theater too much is written of the 8 TH Air corp and Too little of the 7 TH Air corp. This book goes a long with in correcting this error in our history.
