This is an incredible book. The breadth and depth is excellent with insight for the most sophisticated supervisor along with the less experienced. I was very pleased with the chapter layout and the inclusion of personal factors as well as the expansive sections on diversity, evaluation, and legal and ethical considerations in supervision. The panoply of evaluation tools in the Appendix are a bonus that more than justify the purchase of this volume.

This is a book for anyone doing supervision in a mental health field. It provides a much needed and innovative approach to supervision and includes material on strategies, diversity, legal and ethical considerations, role of personal values, evaluation, and disruptions to the supervisory process. There is a wealth of information and resources to enrich every level of supervision. It can be used as a text or for reference and contains excellent tools in the appendices.

This book reflects an intelligent, scholarly approach to a complex process that examines all aspects of competency in clinical supervision. The chapters dealing with diversity and ethics are outstanding, and the appendices provide a gold mine of practical guidance for both the supervisee and the supervisor. This is a must-read for academics, for practicum, internship, and postdoctoral supervisors, and for licensing regulators as well as a great text for much needed graduate courses.

During the late 1960's and early 1970's Rinus Michels and Ajax took flowing, attacking soccer and turned it into a science. This science has become widely known as 'Total Football.'

The fortunes of Ajax and the Dutch national team have always been inexorably linked. As it was in the 70's, 80's, and 90's Ajax's stars of today are the Dutch international stars of tomorrow: Cruyff, Van Basten, Kluivert etc.

In the early 1990's Louis Van Gaal and his staff took over at Ajax, reshaping the team, and in less than six years conquered Europe with what was essentially a youth team. Many of these former Ajax stars have gone on to become the backbone of the Dutch national team, and are among the world's best players.

Kormelink and Seeverens,' 'The Coaching Philosophies of Louis van Gaal and the Ajax Coaches,' is a wonderful book, that details Louis van Gaal's time at Ajax, including system/tactics, drills/training, youth development, goalkeeping and general philosophy. This book takes you behind the scenes of one Europe's most influential and respected clubs, allowing the reader the unique experience of critically observing Ajax through eyes of one of football's greatest minds. Van Gaal and his staff meticulously dissect all aspects of the Ajax system from the ground up, providing coaches, players and fans with an indispensable guide to attacking football.

Litmanen, Kluivert, Davids, Overmars, Kanu, Seedorf, the De Boers, Rijkaard, Van der Sar, Blind etc, all make an appearance, and Van Gaal's comments on their abilities, strengths and roles within the system make for some excellent reading. One of the most fascinating parts of the book from a fan's perspective, is Van Gaal's incredibly detailed account of Ajax's preparations for the Champions League final against AC Milan. He takes you through drills, training, tactics, even the warm up --not to mention the game itself, with the thoroughness one would expect from one of football's perfectionists.

Ultimately this is a book of philosophy and ideas, and is among the very best (of the many) football books I've read. Interestingly enough, it's also extremely accessible. While coaches at all levels will find it an extremely valuable resource, players and fans will find it equally informative. I highly recommend it to all fans of Dutch soccer and attacking football.

As a first year Coach I found this book Excellent. It taught me tennis from the Coach's perspective, rather then the players.

I had played both High School Tennis, as well as College Tennis for a Southeastern Conference school. This book helped me to understand the mental part of the game that had top be imparted to the players, as well as the refresher for the physical part. Passing on the mental toughness required for the players was critical for their future in Tennis.

______________________________________________
William Anthony Parker White (1911-1968) is perhaps best knownas one of the founding editors of the Magazine of Fantasy and ScienceFiction. He was a distinguished book reviewer (for the NewYork Times and Herald-Tribune) and did much to raise literary standards for SF, both as an editor and critic, and as the author of the wry, literate, understated and still very readable stories collected here: 43 sf/f/h shorts (plus a 'poem' and a recipe), mostly written between 1940 and 1952.

This is a collection to be read a story or two at a time, or at least that's how I read it. Boucher's best stories -- "The Quest for St. Aquin", "The Compleat Werewolf", "Snulbug", "They Bite", "The Star Dummy" -- have entered the permanent sf/f/h repertoire and will be familiar to most, umm, 'mature' readers. I would urge younger readers, who could hardly be expected to drop 25 bucks on a collection of half-century old stories by someone they've barely heard of, to borrow the collection from your public library, and try (at least) the stories listed above. As in any complete collection, there are minor works, though I found everything here at least readable. A sample:

I am the very model of a modern s f editor.
My publisher is happy, as is each and every creditor.
I know the market trends and how to please the newsstand
purchaser;
With agents and name authors my relations can't be courteouser.
.
.
.
In short, in manners monetary, social, and promotional,
I am the very model of a pro s f devotional.

As always, NESFA books are a pleasure to read & hold: smooth, creamy paper, solid, full-cloth bindings, and a fine period cover of "Wolfie" by Jane Dennis. I do wish that editor Mann would have included a bit more biographical information about the author -- a page and a half seems skimpy.

Happy reading--

Tony Boucher was one of the great editors of SF. He was the editor of the Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy in the 1950's, when the magazine was first finding its way. To this day, it still retains some of the glory and sparkle that he put there.

Before he was a great editor, he was a great writer. This book contains his short stories.

It is good that the NESFA keeps the names of Anthony Boucher, C.M. Kornbluth, Cordwainer Smith and other writers of the past alive. Their stories should be read and re-read even today.

How to revolutionize your church's small groups program
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-04
This book is a terrific "how to" guide for creating and nurturing small church groups that will in turn nurture their members. If you have questions about why small groups have not worked in your church, or started well, but couldn't maintain their momentum, this is the book for you.

Sometimes called "covenant groups," the small groups of this model have "covenant" as their cornerstone. Each group writes up a covenant for how they will conduct the group and how they will minister to each other, their church, and the larger community in which they live.

By following the basic structure given in this book, your small group can become a little community within your church, rather than just a casual gathering of people who may or may not show up. If your congregation has any fears about growing and losing the intimate feeling of their church, small groups such as the ones described are the answer.

In addition to giving step-by-step instructions for creating the groups, Rev. Hill provides many examples from covenant groups from all sizes of churches. The sample information at the back of the book (pamphlets, forms, training, etc.) are very helpful for getting your program up and running without having to start from scratch.

Whether you are a professional working with trauma clients, a person who has undergone significant trauma, or the family member or friend of that person, you MUST get this book.

Buy it because you will want to return to it again and again. Jon Allen writes with compassion and respect about the effects of trauma, both psychological and physiological. In addition, he writes with great humility from a tremendous knowledge base.

The book is a great resource to read either from front to back, or in sections as they seem helpful. Every person I know who has read this book has gained significant insight.

If this review seems effusive, it is because this book is that WELL WRITTEN and USEFUL. It reflects both the horror of trauma as well as the hope for recovery.

It has set a new standard in understanding trauma and the recovery from trauma and is a must read for anyone who claims serious interest in the topic.

I am amending my review of this book, to add that I think this is THE ideal emotional health book for our nation to read, in light of the terrorist attacks on our country. It can be an enourmous help for our citizens to help calm and clarify things for all of us.

I've spent years researching emotional health, and trauma as well. Of all the books I've read in the field, Coping With Trauma - is by far the single best book for emotional self-care and self-teaching that I've seen. Period!

I own 3 copies now, and have put it in the hands of many others. I almost always get amazingly joyful feedback shortly after they start the book.

... But Dr. Allen's book is THE guide for making those changes and self-healing, and beats any therapist doing it, I've come across. It should be required reading in high schools and colleges.

Read this!

It deserves a Nobel nomination.

The quintessential guide to weaving a tapestry to incorporate real and lasting happiness, an awakening of the spirit in all relationships bringing authenticity and the joy of being more fully concious and alive...this is a recipe for peace and
harmony in all areas of daily living....a truly brilliant and transformational piece of work....

The harsher realities of life and suffering are transcended by the unique and simple approach to existential angst. The real need for human connection becomes evident and the suffering caused by one's need vs the longing for this deep sense of connection is thoughtfully approached and easily mapped.

I was moved by this work and inspired by the friendship circle and the true desire to support and love another in the very real sense of this attachment. Authenticity has never been descibed more clearly and after all this is what we are here for.....each other and the rest of humanity.

The gift of this work will be received for many generations to come....

A recipe to model and live by..THANK YOU...

This is the best book I have come across in understanding my own and my clients' emotional development and how life can get sidetracked when we are young by neglect and abuse at the hands of caretakers, who are often unaware of the damage they are passing on to yet another generation.

Such early suffering places life on a path where internalized and unexplored feelings create a filter that distorts our view of others and ourselves. Life is lived in a kind or personal isolation ward, a prison not of our making but one we are destined to maintain unless, through our desire to stop the suffering, we become aware of a way out through the techniques prsented in this wise and liberating book.

I love the fact this work takes a combined psychoanalytical, existential and cognitve perspective of understanding and helping those trapped in chronic emotional suffering. A great book for therapists.

At times the book is redundant but I have found this sometimes an asset in helping me to more fully grasp a concept presnted again in a slighlty different way. [[ASIN:159147020X Creating a Life of Meaning and Compassion: The Wisdom of Psychotherapy]

On NASCAR owner Buck Buchanan's fortieth birthday he blew out the candles on his cake thinking of Jenna Williams, his love from twelve years ago. Later that night, Buck gets the shock of his life when Jenna rings his doorbell. Jenna's daughter has been kidnapped and she needs Buck's help to get her back.

If the kidnapper gets his way, Buck won't get a chance to get to know Jenna again or meet the girl he's just found out is his daughter.

Danger Zone is a very romantic love story filled with excitement. The long lost love between Buck and Jenna is touching and the suspense kept me guessing. I expected a tender romance and some mystery, but I was pleasantly surprised with the thrills and suspense in Danger Zone.

Twelve years ago, emergency room nurse Jenna Williams and NASCAR driver Buck Buchanan met and shared a heated tryst before both moved on with their respective lives. However, that is not exactly true as Jenna gave birth to his child, Becca, but never informed the father that he sired a child.

Jenna is forced to stay late due to an emergency that has everyone at Jackson County Hospital in Scottsboro, Alabama working overtime. she receives a ransom note demanding a million dollars in exchange for her child. With no place to turn to as she lacks the money, Jenna turns to the father of her daughter as her only hope to save the life of their child.

Though hiding a child from the father has become a trite theme, DANGER ZONE is a fast-paced second chance at love romantic suspense thriller as the life of the offspring is at stake. Buck is an interesting protagonist who understands the goal is not accusing Jenna or even making up lost time with his daughter, but saving her life. Readers will appreciate his dedication as he forgives and moves on so that they can concentrate on the mission without distraction except for the attraction of love.

Jenna Williams doesn't know who to turn to when her daughter, Becca, is kidnapped. The kidnapper is demanding a million dollars which Jenna clearly doesn't have. She turns to a man from her past, Buck Buchanan, NASCAR team owner and former hotshot racer. Little does Buck know but he fathered Becca, now age 13. He's about to find out, however, as the kidnapper appears to want revenge on Buck....

Debra Webb is a master at building intrigue while crafting a superb love story. Buck and Jenna's story had this reviewer in tears on more than one occasion. The love between them was obvious and even heart-wrenching at times as they both struggled with the issues between them. The aspect of a racer's job and how it affects the family life is particularly touching as NASCAR is a sport in which the drivers and team members are constantly on the road during the season. The fans do play a huge part in the sport as well and it is easy to see how a young couple, such as Buck and Jenna were when they met and conceived Becca, could easily be torn apart by misunderstandings.

DANGER ZONE is a spectacular, heart pounding read! Debra Webb is at the top of her game with this one as she continues to produce her stunning blend of romance and suspense in exciting but poignant stories. You don't need to be a fan of NASCAR to enjoy DANGER ZONE, as Debra Webb makes the story come alive even for those who are completely unfamiliar with the racing experience. DANGER ZONE is easily recommended!
