Great insight into a widespread problem!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-09
This book provides fantastic insight into a previously unaddressed, widespread problem...that of the continuing moving forward of the recruitment of college athletes. Just today an article was posted in the USA Today discussing this issue...but the article just talked about opinions, and was void of facts or proposed solutions. This book provides both...facts on the denegration of the timing of agreements and then number-based solutions on how the market can be improved. It's a must-read for anyone who is interested in college athletics or matching markets!!!

A Great Stat Book
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-03
Very similiar to the 1999 NCAA Stat book, but this book deals only with the NCAA Tournament. Gives records for each round, and historic records for each school and coach. I particularly liked the brackets that the book had in the back. All NCAA tournaments (1939 to 1999) were listed.

And this book/CD package is a terrific companion to track and follow the history of the tournament.

It's funny how college basketball has become even more popular than pro in some markets. Its a shame there aren't more books and media on the tourament. We expect that to change soon. Until then, these combo package is just the ticket to track the stats, rankings and history of some of the most colorful matchups and Cinderella stories.

Impossible to live without...

If you're like me, for three weeks in March and April you make sure to sit down and see as many tournament games as possible. That element of surprise and the do-or-die nature of the NCAA tourney is what makes it--to me--the finest sporting event in the world. The Final Four records book is the most invaluable book I own, and even if it only gets heavy use for a few weeks, it has serves as such a nice resource while watching the games. When was the last time Duke lost in the first round? And if you don't know (to Eastern Michigan, 96) you can look it up instantly. As a tourney lover there's nothing better: complete brackets, stats, records. Everything's here, and this should be purchased every year because it has earned it. With the tourney we fans are given such great moments that paying a few bucks to keep informed each year is well worth it.

This book has it all, if you are a college football fan, you gonna love this book, for all who don't, the book is not so bad for you guys either. It doesn't matter if you root for UCLA, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Notre Dame or Alabama (or any other school). The book kicks off with records for every division in NCAA football (IA, IAA, II, III). And it just keep on for 500+ pages. The annual Heisman Trophy breakdown (from 1st to 4th place). Coach-by-Coach register of all the Bowl Coaches in the history of the beautiful sport, a list of all the All-Americans dating back to 1800-and something, year-by-year champs for all the leagues and bowls (from Rose to Insight.com) week by week leaders in the AP Poll from 1936 untill the '99 season. I could keep on writing about all the unique features. The book ends smoothly with all the scores from last year, plus a team-by-team and a week-by-week schedule for the Y2K season. If I could point on one thing it would be that the book does not have complete stats for the last year, but the most players are there anyway. The book is the second most importent tool when you watches school football, beaten only by the television! It's just like that The Man Upstairs reaches down his arm and gave birth to this book. Thank You NCAA!!

He made history
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-01
I was a student at USL during the time the events in this book took place. Beryl Shipley was bigger than life then, and he's even bigger now. He made significant and positive history with respect to integrating sports in Louisiana. This book exposes the sham of back-room Louisiana politics and the pathetic actions of the NCAA and the University at that time in its history. Shipley deserves more recognition than he's received. Maybe this book will begin to show how much the man accomplished and how little the University deserved such a man. The NAACP should take a look at the events of this book and seriously consider honoring Beryl Shipley. We all knew he was a great coach, but few knew the battles he was fighting off the court with the University administration and Louisiana politicians. College sports fans need to read this book.
