College and University Books

This guide is awesome! I think I'll be using it even after I go to Brigham Young University cuz it lists all the restaurants, shops, movie theatres, bowling alley's etc. in the area, and therefore is a perfect guide not only for choosing the school you want to go to, but also for finding your place around once you are already there!!! I recommend all of these guides to anyone who going through the college search process!

I think they have 200 schools complete, or something like that.

This book is great! If you're looking for a better way to narrow the colleges you will be looking at, this series is awesome. Not only is the Brown book informative, but you get a lot of the students' voice- helping you decide if Brown is the right school for you. I think the info in this book is really helpful to pick the right schools to apply to, but also to distinguish your aps from thousands of other aps. Ivy league schools like Brown want variety of applicants- and the more specifically you can tie your experiences to opportunities available at the university, the better your chance of admission. It shows you are serious about your application and that you will take advantage of the school's resources- take it from a Brown alum. College Prowler's book on Brown does all that research for you! This book is definitely worth the cash!

Looking at the photograph of the authors, looking cute but a little bit geeky with their dress-for-success looks, one has no trouble imagining they did indeed develop good time-management skills in their Freshman years, no doubt knowing exactly when to draw the line between social activities and study. And for Sophomore year, this is the time not to be bullied into irrevocably declaring a major? oops. no wonder....

This is a comprehensive book detailing the most exciting games in Ohio State history! The pictures are amazing and listening to the CD makes you feel like you were there! This is a must have for any Buckeye fan.

Banta has drawn together a diversity of voices representing the leading thinkers and implementers of assessment. This diversity of one of the strengths of the book, as it offers the reader the opportunity to select from many viewpoints and experience-bases. The content includes a great review of the history of assessment. The articles also build an important and relevant bridge between the scholarship of teaching and learning and assessment. This is not the best book for nuts and bolts ideas for how to do assessment, and readers who are looking for that, would be served by other titles (such as Assessment Clear and Simple : A Practical Guide for Institutions, Departments, and General Education by Barbara E. Walvoord).

I guess it helps being an extremely old (the actual founding date is debated and discussed within the book) Ivy League university to get your very own historical and architectural guide published.

Part I of the book follows the development of the University from its initial charter through to its march to modern times. Speaking as an alumnus of Penn, I always though the University had an exceptionally beautiful campus, but its rich history was virtually unknown to me. This book makes it clear that the plan for institutional growth required the Deans, Trustees, and other campus leaders engage in detailed campus architectural planning - where, what, and how?. Only now can I appreciate the decisions and compromises made that are reflected by the campus architecture. The authors use the epilogue to address some of the myths that campus students have spread and continue to perpetuate.

Part II of the book is a detailed review (North, South, East, West, and Central campus) of the current structures on the campus. Each building gets its own entry detailing its address, date of construction, purpose, and accompanying photo.

The book is chock full of diagrams, illustrations, and photographs showing the campus and the movers and shakers that shaped it.

This is the perfect coffee table book for graduates of The University of Pennsylvania.

The book I read is called "The Wish" and for me this book was Great! The book is about a ordinary girl named Wilma that everyone thinks is a slut, and to make her life even worse, her L.A teacher reads her embarrassing imaginanation essay out loud that turns out to humiliate her. All the popular kids tease Wilma and all she wants to do is cringe into a corner. But that changed when an old lady asked her for a wish. Wilma wished the wish she would always want, to become popular. The next day when she goes to school her life has become popular. Now forty boys asked Wilma to the Grand Night Dance and she doesn't know which to chose until Jared and her become real Good Friends! But she doesn't know how long this spell of popularity will last hopefully she will still have a boyfriend and hopefully it wont vanish before the dance or graduation! Will Wilma's Fairy tale dream end shortly or will it last forever?

In Pure Instinct, discoverer/originator, Kathy Kolbe provides invaluable insight into our natural tendencies and helps us to understand how to get into the right type of job, make our companies more productive and better places to work in the process. The book discusses ways to reduce stress and strain at work and in our personal lives too. An excellent communication tool that helps us make the best of our natural talents.

I'd definitely recommend these books to anyone who's serious about picking the right college. Each section has pages of quotes from students they surveyed on things like on/off-campus dining, local atmosphere, nightlife (even drug scene - ha!). I was looking at a lot of schools spread out all over the country, and I couldn't possibly afford to visit every one of them in person, so this was a big help.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I was the author of this book, so you may want to take my review as a little biased. :) What I can tell you is that I spent a summer working long and hard on this project, not to mention approaching tons of complete strangers to ask their opinions on everything from athletics to academics to dating to drugs. Not only that, but I myself was a student at Cal Poly for four years (2001-2004), so I know what it's like. If you're considering Cal Poly (which, in my opinion, is a fantastic place to live and go to school), this book probably comes closer than anything out there to giving you an idea of what college life in San Luis Obispo is like. There are pros and there are cons-- but if you're thinking about coming here, be informed! There was nothing like College Prowler when I was looking at colleges, so all I can say is that I got really lucky. But I wouldn't trust my next four years to the roll of a die if I had any other option. And now, you DO!
