This book is a great book for teaching about synonyms. It really helps the students get a better understand of what it is.

Brian Cleary has done it again. Pich and Throw, Grasp and Know: What is a Synonym delights and intriques children of all ages with ingenous use of synonyms. Add this to the outstanding collection he has given us already. Thank you for making English grammar so much fun.

Great stuff. Interesting word choices. Those crazy cartoon cats. I love how in this series of books which explains synonyms, homonyms, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions and more, Cleary can take the complex and make it simple, funny and teachable. He's also written one of my favorite books of poetry-- RAINBOW SOUP; ADVENTURES IN POETRY.

This book is a must for any school classroom and a fun read at home too. It is excellent for teaching what synonyms are and introducing great vocabulary words to boot. I highly recommend.

Poker Face 2 is not only the most amazing book in my (rather large) poker library, it is also among the most impressive art books I own. Ulvis treats his subject with dignity and even-handedness, something that is seldom true in media portrayals of poker and poker players. The quotes that accompany the photos are also quite apt. The quality of the book itself is amazing. Every serious poker player should want to have one of these limited edition books on their shelf of on their coffee table.

I had never bought a poker book before purchasing this book. It was well worth the money and my wife (a non-poker player) even enjoyed the layout of pictures. The quotes provide an interesting peak into the minds of poker's elite players. It's a perfect holiday/birthday gift for a poker player or just someone interested in poker.

This is one of those very rare books that you have to pick up and look at time and time again. The photos in this award winning book range from the 1970s to 2005.

The photos from the 70s are one of a kind. When the World Series of Poker was in its infancy, Jack Binion wanted to publicize the event so he invited all of the Hollywood Photographers to shoot the event and be comped rooms and food. Only Ulvis Alberts took Jack up on his offer. Pretty much 95% of the photos you see of the World Series from the 70s were taken by Mr. Alberts.

The photographs throughout the book tell many stories. The most beautiful aspect of the photos is that they are not trying to catalog famous faces; they capture special moments in time from the famous and non famous. Shot largely in black and white film, the photos have a stunning brilliance and texture that cannot be captured by digital color. One of the most telling photographs is a pullout that captures in a series of shots, the moment someone wins their first bracelet.

This book is the sequel to the first Poker Face which if you can find a copy today; it's worth its weight in gold. Over the course of a year this book was produced in Latvia with the highest level of craftsmanship. The artistry on the hard box cover and book cover was all hand done. The commemorative metal plaque inserted on the cover was worked on by 2 people. For the last 2 years, many professional poker players have marveled over this book when it was displayed at the World Series of Poker.

I personally own 2 copies, one for display and one to keep in mint condition. My friends always flip through it when they come over. This is a definite keepsake, like a coin collection, stamp collection, or art collection. It will gain value in time, especially since there were only 2000 copies produced. There won't be Poker Face 3 because in 25 years Ulvis will not be around. He has said on many occasions that this is his last poker book. If you wanted one more reason to buy this book, if you wanted to just have one print of a photo from Ulvis, it will run somewhere between $300-500. Here you get over 300 pages of photos for $300.

Was Wimber a true man of God I am not sure I hope he was. THe book is good advice read it!

He loves you and wants you healed! Books like this will build up your faith and get you started. More advanced: "The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide" by Tiffany Snow and "Hands of Light" by Derek Prince.

This would be one of the best books in the area of healing and deliverence. In the early Pentecostal days with lots of healings and deliverance taking place, what came lacking was the theology to healing and deliverance, and John Wimber wrote Power Healing at a time where a strong renewal theology in healing and deliverance was needed. This is not a book like those you get from the "Word of Faith" movements. This book is solidly grounded on the Word of God, not denying the reality of life, but faces them head on. This book deals with some very difficult issues, e.g. "Can Christians be demon possessed?" and "Why are all not healed?"

I appreciate John's humility in writing this book, not as an expert, but as a practitioner discovering the heart of God in this subject matter. John wrote candidly and also the struggles he faced, and I believe you would be able to identify very much with what he wrote. I am most inspired by his perseverence and tenacity in praying for people to be healed. He began the healing ministry with no one getting healed for 10 months (how many of us would have given up already) but he pressed on believing in God's redemptive heart, of which healing is part of it all. Through his journey and discovery, he writes this book like a primer to the ministry of healing and deliverance, and this is a must read for anyone venturing into this area.

John Wimber was a man who affected his generation. He loved the Lord and accepted healing as part of the atonement. He not only presents what he believes from a biblically sound perspective but he also went ahead and gave testimonies of healings that he witnessed. Only other authors this good on the subject might be F.F. Bosworth or Smith Wigglesworth.

I am a soldier who is looking into becoming a pilot when I get out. I do not know anything about the professional piloting industry, so I decided this book would be a good place to start, and it was a great choice. It gives very deep insight into every type of professional piloting out there, including regional, national, and international airline piloting, as well as corporate/business piloting, fractional and charter piloting, and contract piloting. The author has sections devoted to these different categories and there are many interviews with pilots in each of the categories, as well as insight into the top companies and corporations in each. There is also a chapter devoted to choosing the right flight school and a chapter on how to conduct interviews once you are qualified, and more. The only bad thing about this book is that there are some parts that get into all the technical pilot lingo that a newbie like me does not understand, but that will come with the education, and then I can read the book again, too easy. I highly recommend this book to any individual who wants to get paid to fly.

Purchased this for a young man planning to apply for a pilots job, and he told me it was very helpful.

This is a must have book for any future commercial pilots. The writing style has something to be desired, but he gets his points across.

It's a truth that most every young person's interest in aviation will lead them to consider flying as a career. Rob encapsulates for them the essence of how to get started on the path to a professional pilot career. While there are a lot of books on the subject, the Professional Pilot's Career Guide not only manages to cover just about every variation of how one can get paid to fly, but also gives them a dose of reality about the good, the bad, and the ugly (including the "Order of the Sleepless Knights" aka Freight Dogs). What really makes Rob's book interesting and readable is the sidebar slice-of-life stories about real people "living the dream". My opinion is that this book belongs on the shelf of every high school library in the country.

The Professional Pilots' Career Guide is not just for wanna-be's and newbies. There is a lot of valuable information for those who maybe considering shifting career gears by branching off into a different flying job. The book also includes a section on the do's and don'ts of interviewing for the job and on resources available on the Internet.

Anyone interested in getting started (or moving up) in their professional pilot career should consider reading this book to get the edge on their competition.

Janet Lowe's book delivers. Want to know what a genius of finance thinks about investing, the stock market and economics? Buy this book. Each time I read it, I discover a new insight which previously eluded me. Truly a great book and I recommend it to all investors of any level of investment sophistication.

I've profited handsomely in a real-time portfolio over less than 6 months from ideas accumulated from my reading of this nice collection of articles. Before picking up this text, I expected it would contain mainly writings from Graham's earliest years --writings destined to be melded into the first edition of "Security Analysis." There are a couple of such pieces, but I was most taken with the pieces written towards the end of his life. Some of these are interviews. Graham generated financial ideas for the individual investor until the very end of his life, and this book is currently the only published repository for these. I'm not sure if someone just coming to Benjamin Graham will derive the greatest benefit from this book, but anyone who has a passiing familiarity with "Security Analysis", "The Intelligent Investor" and "The Interpretation of Financial Statements" will derive great pleasure and a goodly number of valuable insights from this collection.

For anyone interested in getting to the heart of Benj. Graham and value investing, this is a great source. I only wish it would have been published a few years earlier; I would have saved countless hours searching for the same documents in my college library. Now, if Janet Lowe would only do a similar work with Graham's prized pupil, Warren Buffett as the subject...

Janet Lowe has done an outstanding job collating and introducing each section of this book of previously unpublished articles, lectures, and interviews from the father of value investing. I believe anyone reading this book will get a huge value out of it. This book is a great addition to Mr. Graham's books. It is also a great book to read for those new to Graham's teachings of buying good stocks when their prices are below intrinsic value. Graham's methods of finding good stocks at fair prices by examining their equity to asset ratios, book value, and P/E multiples brought the Graham-Newman partnership over a 20% annual return on equities for 20 years. Followed by his pupil Warren Buffet using and refining his techniques to return over 20% a year for 40 years and eventually lead Warren Buffett to be worth $40 billion thanks to using his value investing for the holding company Berkshire-Hathaway. I sit up and listen to anything these two great men have to say. I also recommend reading Graham's Intelligent Investor and Security Analysis, and "The essays of Warren Buffett" by Cunningham.

This book give a concrete two factor formula for buying below market value investments without needing the more extensive balance sheet analysis as used in the "Intelligent Investor" or "Security Analysis".

Given that I am a Democrat, now long gone from D.C. and that Dr. Blahous and I both happily sit at opposite ends of the political spectrum, one might think I'd have little interest in reading a book on Social Security reform by a member of the Bush administration. Frankly, the sole reason I bought this book was that I once had the pleasure of working with Chuck in Washington when we were both staffers in the office of Alan Simpson. Without a doubt, he was both one of the brightest people I'd ever met and one of the most human staffers ever to grace the Hill.

Chuck's book, "Reforming Social Security: For Ourselves and Our Posterity" is a reflection of that. One element of Blahous's brilliance is that he can gracefully translate the most complex issue into something anyone - even I - can easily grasp.

In a modern political environment, in which the five-second screambyte passes for reasonable discourse, Chuck thoughtfully presents a case for an approach to Social Security reform that I would normally not even consider, largely because the folks on "my side" are making political hay out of opposing it. I wish that Chuck's approach to the thoughtful discussion and development of policy were the standard in Washington. We'd all be the better for it.

Ignore the rhetoric from both sides on this issue. Take the time to read the book, consider his arguments, mark the heck out of the margins (despite that hefty $68 price tag), check his sources, weigh the evidence and then reach your own conclusions. You may well be surprised that your position has drifted somewhat. Odds are good that you'll be a bit closer to the truth for the effort.

Since Chuck's talents have largely been focused on Social Security issues for most of this past decade, it's often easy to forget that his PhD. is in chemistry and that much of his early work on Simpson's staff was devoted to questions of foreign policy. I, for one, would be pleased if his talents were relied upon in other areas as well.

Chuck's presence - indeed, Chuck's presence alone - reassures me that there is still some hope for this administration.

This easy-to-read book is a must read for anyone who is concerned about the future of Social Security and sick of the way politicians typically talk about the issue. This book provides hard facts about the problems facing the system and straight answers about the benefits and drawbacks of reform proposals.

I live and work "inside the Beltway" as we like to say here in Washington, DC. We tend to use a lot of big words, talk endlessly about inane topics, and congratulate ourselves that we have the American people "figured out".

In reality, there's a lot every Washington insider could learn simply by picking a point on the compass and driving a couple of hours away from DC in that direction. We need to hear what people really feel about issues that are important to them. Conversely, we need to educate the American people in a logical way, to give them all the information they need in digestible portions -- as Thomas Jefferson noted, "to set before mankind the commonsense of the subject in terms so simple as to command their assent [paraphrase]." It is in these terms, that Dr. Blahous writes.

Social Security reform is a weighty, complicated issue. Because it is not readily and easily understood by most, it is demagogued by politicians of every persuasion. Charles Blahous cuts through the demagoguery and provides a clear explanation of the Social Security retirement program's history, the need for reform, and events of the last few years that have led to the current debate on reform.

I enjoyed the author's writing style and tone. He conveys his message as one who earnestly wants to communicate the truth. Opponents of reform should pay heed -- with logic like this, there is nowhere left for them to hide.

Read this book. Get informed. Contact your elected officials in Washington and urge them to support Social Security retirement reform.

After the excellent "The Real Deal" (by Schieber and Shoven), is there anything more to say? Yes, a lot, actually, as Blahous's very original and valuable book makes clear. I loved several aspects. The honesty of the comments shines through. He criticizes the press, the demagogues, some unions, not in partisan fashion, but only where their bias or lack of knowledge contradicts facts -- a feature that earns the gratitude of all of us who want an honestly considered solution, whatever it turns out to be. His insider's view of the political evolution of Social Security's recent history is totally fascinating and another valuable feature. I'm a student of this subject, and Blahous's book helped me understand some things I didn't see clearly before. One is why certain factors in the NCRP plan were phased in over that particular 20-year period. Another is how valuable is the proposed raising of the benefuit for the lower-paid. A third is why he describes Senator Gramm's proposal as an add-on when I considered it a carve-out. Perhaps it's unnecessary for all members of Congress to read this book. But I do hope the necessary few on staff and others who help members decide how to vote read it, because the more it influences their deliberations, the better for the country.

The strength of this book is its focus on celebrating the attributes of God. The author did a very good job bringing out the theme of the book of Revelation, which is that God will win in the end due to His nature, and He's looking out for us.

I was also impressed with the quality of analysis that went in to the various outlines provided for the book of Revelation. There are actually three different outlines included. They will help people of any interpretive approach make better sense of the book.

Since the author is an Amillennialist, I wish he'd spent more time pitching the theoretical strengths of that system. When, towards the end of the book, the millennium is addressed, it is quickly brushed aside as just another example of how God will win. While this is true in a sense, there was no attempt to refer to the literally hundreds of Old Testament references to it, and how they can be explained as allegories (as opposed to literal fulfillment).

His argument that most people get more hung up on the puzzle than the pictures is an excellent one. For that reason, I'd suggest this book to anyone studying the book of Revelation.

This paperback on Revelation brings in a simple and refreshing perspective on Revelation. For example he suggests that children can understand Revelation...that we need to stop 'puzzling' over Revelation and enjoy the Panoramic pictures of this book. His 'down home' encouragement is exactly what this book is when laid side by side with Beale's NIGTC Commentary on Revelation. (The NIGTC is a technically dense work with many many references to all kinds of sources for each verse).

Dr. Beale (2004's E.T.S. President) recommends this book as part of his course recommended reading on Revelation at Wheaton. Of the 8 or so books he recommends, this one sports a number of great visual concepts that do empower bible teachers and pastors. As a pastor who is preaching through Revelation from the Greek text, I found his material helpful on the application side of things.

For example, on the four major views on Revelation Poythress supplies a great little visual diagram of how the four views look. Just the diagram alone can help many people understand the four different view (Preterist, Futurist, Historical, and Idealist) more than most commentaries would.

The weakness is that you will not have comments of substance on every question in Revelation. It's not meant to be an exhaustive commentary on Revelation.

Enjoy it. It's well written and worth owning a copy.

The Returning King is a great introduction the book of Revelation. The first 50 pages or so contain high level discussions on the various views of Revelation (idealist, futurist, preterist, historicist) as well as other controversial aspects such as the millennium (premil, postmil, amil). This survey of all the major viewpoints alone is worth the price of the book. The rest of book is a high level discussion of the text. Poythress takes an idealist, amil view but provides a very fair discussion of all the other viewpoints.

It was written as an introduction and is very successful as such. It is not a thorough commentary of Revelation. If you have never studied Revelation this is a great place to start.

A few years ago I heard a speaker who began his talk by saying that he loved the book of Revelation because it was so simple and clear and it so neatly summed up the teaching of the Bible. I laughed because everyone knows that the book of Revelation is anything but simple and clear. He said he was serious and he mentioned that he had studied Revelation under Vern Poythress at Westminster Seminary and he had made it seem clear and simple.

At the time this book had not been published but I was able to get some tapes by Poythress, and they taught what is written in this book. When the book came out I got it right away and I have to say that I was not disappointed in the tapes or in this book.

Poythress writes like a kindly, wise elder. I say he is kind because, though he takes a position on the interpretation of the book, he is gracious to those who disagree with him. One of the things I particularly liked about this book is his discussion of how to outline the book. He listed a few different ways that this could be outlined, but rather than attacking various positions he affirmed that the existence of these differing views should cause us to marvel at the greatness of God in the book. These things show that the book of Revelation is like a giant tapestry, with many colors and patterns weaving in and out. The book is so rich that one can never tire of admiring the beauties of God in it.

As to his position, Poythress says that the book follows the pattern of recapitulation - it describes the same historical events over and over again using different metaphors and pictures. So, rather than being a straight chronological description of the end time, the book of Revelation describes the second coming, and the events surrounding it, several times.

Poythress shows that the book of Revelation is actually comprised of several cycles of judgment. He gives the tools for understanding how to identify these cycles and in doing so makes Revelation slightly less difficult.

This is the place to start in understanding the book of Revelation.

Practical, concise, and easy to read. Provides insight not usually found in this kind of book.

A delight.... I read this in 2 days. I love this fantasy genre, and this was right on target. the fact that the Neanderthals were the "good guys" and the Cro Magnan, "not" made it a little unexpected. A good read for all ages.

Another great read by P. L. Parker. Adventure combined with romance certainly seems to be this author's forte. I look forward to the next book.

"Riley's Journey" by P. L. Parker is an absolutely wonderful read, and I might lose my guy card for saying so. Riley journeys back in time to the Ice Age, finds Nathan and begins a series of adventures that kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the story. It is exciting, funny, heartwarming and, at times, intense. Ms. Parker's ability to create in the written text a mental image that is so vivid, you feel like you are experiencing it with the characters. I give this book my highest rating.

I just finished reading this book and, wow, did I love it. The story was intriguing and kept me glued to my seat. I hated to reach the final pages! The author has a wonderful storytelling style and I thoroughly enjoyed how she portrayed the characters' thoughts and actions. I also loved how the plot took its own twists and turns, ones that were definitely not predictable. This is an entertaining book with a great love story and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to read her first book, Fiona.

More than once P.L. Parker had me on the edge of my seat, anxiously awaiting to see how further events would unfold. Would Riley and Nathan survive each new hazard? And just as importantly, would Demon survive?

The harsh beauty of the past as seen through the eyes of Riley and Nathan is only part of the joy of RILEY'S JOURNEY, however. P.L. Parker throws in some interesting twists that made this romance a truly heart warming tale. The love between Riley and Nathan has time to develop and blossom into a strong, unbreakable bond that is both sexy and uplifting. RILEY'S JOURNEY is truly a tale about love growing in any environment!

Oh my, what an incredibly thought-provoking and personally challenging book! I recently read this volume and its companion, "Revolution in World Missions". Both books issue a loving admonition to Western Christians to reevaluate their personal priorities, especially in the area of materialism. Why? Because there's a world to be won for Christ, that's why.

The other volume focuses specifically on how the American church has been overwhelmingly blessed, and should be redirecting some of those blessings to support the native evangelism movement in other countries. This book takes that fundamental message even farther, by challenging believers to examine not just their financial priorities, but their entire Christian life. What is our true measure of devotion to Christ? How much are we willing to sacrifice and risk for His sake? Are we ready to live for God's kingdom rather than our own?

Both books, but especially this one, are filled with specific principles that are ready for personal application. K.P. Yohannan, the founder of Gospel For Asia ministries, has lived what he preaches, and continues to do so. Therefore he is able to speak into our lives with godly authority. If you want to break away from a temporal mindset, develop an eternal perspective on life, and find tangible ways to be involved in growing God's kingdom among the nations, either one of these books is a great place to catch a vision.

There are few books that I would say really bring strong convition into my heart to the point that I simply put the book down in utter repentance as I see myself in the light of what the author is showing me from Scripture. This is one of those books.

Along with the likes of giants such as A.W. Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, Samuel Chadwick, John Wesley, and others, K.P. Yohannan is a solid biblical exhorter calling the Church to her knees. Yohannan is not ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16) and he boldly proclaims the truth no matter what may happen to him.

This book will open your heart to your own self-centeredness, your wastefulness, and your pride. The book is aimed at Western Christians (particularly Americans since Yohannan now lives in the United States). The book takes aim at our focus on things that do not matter in the Church such as buildings, salaries, cars, expensive food, shelter, and clothing. Yohannan believes that the Church in the West needs to see the urgent call to world evangelism (Matt. 28:19). His writing is not for the weak or feeble minded "Christian" but for the true disciple ready for the Lord to cut his heart with His Word (Hebrews 4:12).

Overall this is an excellent work on world missions and on holy living (2 Peter 3:10-14).

I found that "The Road To Reality" is a wake-up call for Christians. Listening to Christian music, reading Christian books is OK, but we must be focused on winning souls for Jesus Christ. One thing I've learned is that I do not need to read Christian books, listen to Contemporary Christian music, etc. just because I'm a Christian. Through this book, K.P. Yohannan has taught me that I can live the life I want (as long as it goes with the Holy Bible), and win people to Christ at the same time. I am finally free from the religious books, music, etc. that once held me in confusion. I recommend this book highly.
