AS A FRENCH RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST, I WANT YOU TO FORGIVE MY ENGLISH, BUT BOTH THE ATLAS AND GUIDES ARE NECESSARY FOR ANY RADIOLOGIC SERVICE. IT'S A REFERENCE, AND EVEN IF YOU CAN'T READ ENGLISH PERFECTLY YOU CAN REFER TO THEM (ANATOMIC DESCRIPTION, PHOTOGRAPHY OF RADIOLOGIC POSITION AND RESULTS WITH COMMENTARY). MY GUIDE IS IN THE ROOM WHERE I'M WORKINK EVERY MINUTE, BECAUSE IT CONTENTS NOW ALL INFORMATIONS NEEDED AND ADAPTED FOR EACH POSITION AND EACH X-RAY TUBE. THEY HAVE TO BE IN EVERY SCHOOL. WAITING FOR THE FRENCH VERSION AND AN INTERACTIVE CDROM.

We began using this text this fall and have been very impressed with the quality of the anataomy sections and the radiographs are all excellent. The color makes it much easier to learn radiography. It is also very comprehensive. Students can learn many projections and not just the basics. We especially like the Mobile chapter which is very practical and accurate in its approach. The Workbook by Hayes which accompanies the Atlas is also excellent. We can use the 3-volumes for 7 different courses in our school and that makes this text a bargain overall. Our students also began using the accompanying Pocket Guide which they much prefer over the one they were using previously because of the AEC write-in ability. This whole package is excellent for radiography students.

It is easy to see why this textbook has made it to its 50th anniversary edition. The authors have introduced all the latest techniques, including computed radiography. The color throughout is wonderful. This is not only a great student textbook, but a great book for reference purposes. We continue to use this book for 5 different courses in our program and we continue to love it. Thanks for the color !

I had the good fortune to meet one of the authors at a seminar he conducted. I was so impressed with the material that I've bought a number of copies just to give away. It's an excellent resource for managers and sales/marketing personnel whether experienced or not. In fact, the subject can be applied to any area of your life. The more we know about how we make decisions, the more effective we are in dealing with others (and ourselves). Plus, the book comes with a great poster to keep the concepts fresh in your mind. Even if you only come away using the six triggers, you'll be far further ahead. You'll definitely want to share what you learned with your colleagues and associates.

This is the first book that teach how to communicate effectively in a simple, practicle and understandable way. It reveals at higher level the scheme and the road map to get to the decision maker. But it is full of practicle examples that can help you in your day to day life. After reading this book you can say you have learned more than any other courses where you spent 50 times more.

I am a business coach and I read about 50 books a year (wish it were more). Most everything that can be said about sales & marketing has been said but sometimes there's a bit of new information and sometimes the information is packaged in a new and better way.

I think Neuro-marketing qualifies on both counts. First, it's an easy read. Large print, clear organization, amusing simple cartoon graphics. You can flash through this book's 200 pages in no time.

The book's new information is the study of the old brain. I don't want to tell you what the books going to tell you. I just want to tell you enough so you may know whether you should buy the book. There is no detailed or scientific study of the brain. Just the conclusions drawn from those studies. And those conclusions are: 1) We have an "old" brain which was developed millions of years before our "new" cognitive brain; 2) The "old" brain makes the buying decision and the new brain only rationalizes, explains or attempts to justify our decisions; and 3) There are 6 specific ways to communicate with the old brain and if you don't use them it's like trying to sell to someone who speaks a different language than you.

I also like how the book is organized. Clear short chapters. Nitpicking, but I think they could have broken chapter six into several chapters. But the organization is very helpful both in learning and then applying what one has learned.

Interestingly, and this is important if you're thinking of buying this book, this is called Neuro-marketing which implies that it's a marketing book. But it's as close to a pure sales book as you can get. (It's sometimes hard to draw a line between marketing and sales).

I tend to be reluctant to reccomend books, becasue people have different tastes and it's hard to tell if my opionion applies to me or to all. I feel very comfortable reccomending this book. It is really just one of the very best books I have ever read on sales. I would be astonished if you didn't learn a LOT of new stuff integrated with a lot of old stuff that you probably need to re-learn and re-apply.

What can I say? Buy it.

Throw away the spec sheets . . .

I had the pleasure of attending a conference where Messrs. Renvoise and Morin presented their concept of Neuromarketing. It was an entertaining and insightful presentation to say the least. The book was no less enjoyable.

The authors present in a clear and logical fashion why those few successful sales programs that are based on consultative selling work, and how we can achieve even better results for our clients and our companies by applying the science behind how we make decisions. For you sales and marketing professionals who are highly successful, you may well be an "unconscious competent"; this book will make you a conscious competent by explaining the way our decisions are really made, including our purchasing decisions.

What we learn is that it's the "old brain" that makes the decision to buy - not our new brain with all the logic. It is almost certain that all the reasons you give for purchase of a product are really justifications for the fact that you were really avoiding pain. We learn that the fastest way to the old brain is through the optic nerve - that means pictures!

We learn that six characteristics of the old brain: Self-centered, Contrast, Tangible, Beginning & End, Visual, and Emotion. In order to help our client, we need to shape our message, the picture, to maximize the message and stimulate these old brain needs.

As you would expect, this book is easy to read, compelling and gets the message across. Anyone in business and especially those involved in direct sales must read this book and put it to use.

It's a fantasy lover's book. If you like E. Nesbit, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and other books by A. A. Milne, you will certainly enjoy this book as well. With a exciting plot, and humerous but loveable characters, this book is a must have.

A.A.Milne wrote this fairytale after being in the army during WWI. the story is basically about how easy it is to get into war (and over very stupid reasons), and how no one REALLY wants to hurt every one, but they just want to look out for their own interests. The charecters are not your typical bad-vs-good and each one can be lovable in his or her own way, and there are also wonderful little stories inside the major plot line. one of the BEST books I have ever read.

This book is a wonderful story about a king, princess and an "evil" countess. The king, King Merriwig of Euralia, is in love with the Countess Belvane. Belvane has her sights set on becoming queen of Euralia. However, Princess Hyacinth is suspicious of how the countess acts. So the Princess enlists the help of Prince Udo from Araby. When Belvane finds out, she wishes for something humorous to happen to the prince on his journey - and it does! Now, Hyacinth must stop Belvane, help the prince all while keeping him from falling in love with the countess!

A. A. Milne has done it again with this story of pure fantasy. He did not write this book for children, as he states in his introduction, yet it is fun and exciting for all ages. If you need a great bedtime story, check this book out. Would you care for some light reading? "Once On A Time" is the book for you. I recommend this book with a happy heart and hope you will feel the same way too!

I collect Oriental rugs and Oriental rug books. This book is not for the beginner, but is meant for in-depth study of the subject of Oriental rugs. As you read you are directed to other pages for study and comparison. This is a time consuming but valuable process. If one wants to really study Oriental rugs this book can elevate you from beginner to a person who is comfortable with the subject and able to talk with experts. I used this book as a self teaching text book and loved it.

This book has the best information I've found on distinguing one type of rug from another. Many books give information about the major types of rugs...they're a dime a dozen. Ford breaks everything down into what specific tribes and villages weave, and tells us what the weavers use for warps and wefts, distinguishing colors, area motifs and designs, and more.

This book is definitely academic in nature, but this is exactly the kind of fact-filled information I've been searching for. I had thought I would find it in Peter Stone's works, but even Stone's 2004 book on motifs does not come close to what Ford did twenty years ago. I currently own about 50 books on oriental rugs, and Ford's book offers the most comprehensive, detailed information of any of them.

If you want to move from being a novice to becoming a more knowledgeable buyer and rug lover, you will want this book.

I bought this book after going to the library and checking out a number of carpet books - I was looking for a reference that would teach me some of the history of rug making and the people who make these incredible pieces of art as well as the practical side such as what to look for in a rug. This book is great at teaching about the different types of rugs. There are color pictures on every page, there are drawings of specific patterns so you can see specifically what make a rug one type rather than another, there are uncommon examples of types of rugs shown, etc. Its quite a good book (which is why I bought it after returning the library copy). This book is ok at teaching about the history/people or about how to tell a good quality rug - the intro goes into some good detail about things like knot types, weaves, use of synthetic dyes, chinese rugs etc but it's a fanatsic guide to decoding the different traditional motifs and patterns. I'm giving it 4 stars rather than 5 only because the text is so dry and they don't really give the stories - they give more dry facts such as this type of rug was woven in this manufacturing/village setting in x,y,z town. It would have been niceto have more details about the people and about the symbolism of the motifs. But, like I said, I knew all that before I bought the book since I had checked t out at the library. I use this book to augment others that I ended up buying that do tell more of the stories.

Excellent!

a british perspective on diplomatic history

Review Date: 2007-10-01
What possessed me to purchase this book? There I was, in Bonanza Books, my favorite book store in my parent's home town. I looked at the title and thought, "Maybe I am interested in the struggle for mastery in europe (1848-1918).

I'm not at all a fan of european diplomatic history. Though the material has a certain "Wes Anderson" (filmmaker of Rushmore and Royal Tennenbaum) flavor to it. Lots of triple ententes, diplomatic notes and, my favorite phrase in the whole book- "secret diplomacy". You see, through out the time period of this book, few of the European Powers resembled the modern democracy of free press and public opinion. In fact- of the major powers (UK, France, Prussia/Germany, Austria Hungary, Russia and sometimes Italy and Turkey), only England was arguably a "demoracy" for the entire period.

So basically, European Diplomacy during this period resembled a version of Risk- alll the players plotting with first one partner, then the other, with the idea of maintaining a balance, rather then provoking a final reckoning. Taylor- an english historian who is widely acclaimed for being one of the first "tv" personalities from the history profession (though not on you tube), was also one of the very first "revisionist" historians. "Mastery" was originally published in 1954. Talor is revisionist in an American sense because he doesn't adopt a principled/moral perspective on the events of history. Although Taylor is "anti-German" in a broad sense, it's a more sophisticated perspective on world affairs then most americans are used to reading at the college level (though I'd imagine post graduate students of european history are required to read taylor.

In my reading, the nuances of each event (Colorful sub chapters like "The Andrassy Note" or "The Leauge of the Three Emperors" abound) are subsumed by the broad flow of Taylor's broader "anti-great men" of history approach. Taylor takes the position that most deailng in international affairs are dealing with a lack of solid information about their oppoenents and partners. I can think of at least twent occasions where Taylor was "But Minister X was wrong about his assumption."

That there largely was no war amongst the so-called Great Powers between the Crimean war of the 1850s and World War I of 1914 is largely ascribed by Taylor to the brilliance of Bismarck. Bismarck's genius is that he subscribed to a world view where Germany DID NOT dominate all of Europe. After he leave the scene, the German/Prussian leadership is gradually won over to the "German mastery over Europe." "German Nationalism" serves as an eerie prologue to events that this book does not cover, but the time period in Mastery is just as close to Napoleon's French Empire- an era also not covered in this book.

very good, but not for the casual reader

Taylor successfully tackles a sprawling, detailed subject -- seventy years of byzantine European diplomacy that set the stage for the First World War and, not so indirectly, the Second. He doesn't hold the reader's hand, and assumes you are familiar with many of the events and people he discusses. I wasn't, so I referred often to Britannica, Encarta, and Wikipedia as I read. By doing so, I learned a lot from this book.

A. J. P. Taylor's The Struggle for Mastery in Europe is the book to start reading about those 70 crucial years in Europe's history.
The book begins with the Revolutions of 1845, that's why it would be a good thing to have some knowledge regarding the Napoleonic Wars and its outcome (Treaty of Metternich). Taylor analyses the out coming system of the Balance of Power that governed European diplomacy until War World I. According to This system, the five great powers (England, Prussia, Austria, Russia and the defeated France) would balance each others force, avoiding the out come of war.
The system worked pretty well until the fall of Bismarck. That is because Bismarck, as his successor once said, knew how to "play with three balls at the same time". He could keep Russia and Austria tied to Germany at the same time. Thus, France was checked. Nevertheless, when Germany didn't renewed its treaty with Russia the obvious move was Russia's alliance with France.
It could be said that by 1885 the outcome of a Great War was a matter just of time. The system of alliances so well designed by Metternich and so well understood and curried out by Bismarck was at the same time the cause of War World I. Without a great politician as Bismarck nobody could make Metternich's system work.
All through his book, Taylor explains what I have just summarized in a really better way. I highly recommend the lecture of this great book.

The Ne Plus Ultra of Modern European Historiography!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-13
A. J. P. Taylor's book is the sine qua non for university students of European history. This is the real deal: Taylor was a genuine historian who never went further than his facts--and his facts are incredibly well researched, well documented, and bountiful. This is true historiography: the way history ought to be done! Plus, Taylor writes very well, in a lively and entertaining fashion. He has good language, wit, and trenchant observations.

It must be noted that this is a history of diplomacy--with some political and military of necessity treated. What does this mean? Well, it means that the characters of Taylor's book are mostly forgotten professional diplomats, and therefore most of their names won't be familiar to those unschooled in modern European history--Bismarck and Disraeli excepted. But this esoterica only increases the value of Taylor's work; for it reveals these forgotten characters to us once again: a gem of historical literature.

If you don't feel closeness with your child, can't get them to open up even with the kindest efforts, feel like you can't imagine why your relationship isn't good because of all the love you give, and your child would rather spend time with the computer than with you, and they won't listen to you....YOU NEED THIS! I was able to understand instantly the unintentional messages I have been sending! I've read MANY parenting books, never have the results been so immediate--almost magic, and so simple to understand and use. In four days, while still reading, I used/practiced the techniques described--and my 15 year old has responded with profound openess and helpfulness. Because I am respecting his needs as a person (and have learned how to comunicate this), he is in turn respecting my needs! Brilliant! Buy it at ANY cost!!

This much more than a recipe book--tho it is that as well. It is principally a social history of eating norms and the impact of successive cultural invasions: Norman, Arabic, and the like. It explains why Sicilians of various classes eat as they do, and it is fascinatingly well-written and researched. A real treat that explains why this is the best cuisine that modern Italy has to offer.

Having read every book by this author - I can recommend this
work to anyone who'd like to know what it was like for our
ancestors over the last 2500 yrs in Sicily. Within the pages, I found receipes that were handed down from my immigrant Girgentano
grandmother, Gesuelda. (Sicilian for Jesus). My family history project is only 10 yrs old, but by reading this book and making the receipes, I have come close to feeling and tasting the foods my Grandparents and their anscestors shared during their life time. Mary Taylor-Simeti has given Sicilian Americans a huge gift by writing about our Siclian history. If you want to know and understand more about why you are the person you are, Simeti's book can help in that journey.

This cookbook is the real deal. If you have some familiarity with Italian food and are looking for different regional cuisines(and especially if you're Italian and Southern)you will find a lot of joy in this book. There aren't really that many recipes, but there is a lot of interesting background about all of those invasions in Sicily. Sicilians are Arab,Norman, Greek, Spanish,French and God-only-knows. That makes for an interesting mix, and the food is the most interesting of Italy if not what you usually get in a restaurant. The recipes however aren't that different from Neapolitan dishes, just imagine more Arab and Greek influence. The food: I tried a fantastic baked ziti with hard-boiled eggs, cheese and a pork meat sauce, all covered with fried eggplant(no breadcrumbs) from the bottom in an upside-down cake sort of way. It was very good. Also interesting: chickpea fritters; mint and caper tomato sauce; fennel and olive pasta; an "Arabian" pasta timbale. Simetti doesn't hold you to weird recipe confines, her explanations just makes sense and if you play around with them, it's still fine. If you're at all interested in food this book is a good investment. (And don't you want to know why Sicily is said to be the only Arab country that recognizes Israel?)

This is my second Recknor book. I find her to be one of the freshest most original writers that I've read in a long time. Her plots are unconventional, yet convincing. She's utterly enjoyable from start to finsih. I love her "bad guys." I can't wait for her next book!

A Delightful, Hilarious Read!

No wonder PROPHET ANNIE won the coveted Western Writers of America Spur Award. I couldn't put it down.

I did enjoy Prophit Annie to a point. After awhile it just felt like it rambled until I couldn't wait until the ending. I enjoyed the style it was written in. Reading it felt as if you were talking to an older relative relating what it was like in their time. Where Prophit Annie was good, if you want to experience a fantastic western story - pick up Ellen Recknor's "Me and the Boys" (out-of-print service). I think Me and the Boys was way above better than Prophit Annie.

Fast moving, exciting and extremely funny.............

Fast moving, exciting and extremely funny.......There is no other way to describe Ellen Recknors' latest book, "PROPHET ANNIE". This writer has taken the age old fear of ghosts and put a new and interesting twist to it......Anyone and everyone who enjoys a tale of the old west with a heavy dose of comedy should pick up this book and read it....Keep up the good work Ellen.....

A Fabulous Read!

With PROPHET ANNIE, I discovered a new favorite author. Annie Newcastle is a sassy, hilarious heroine with a distinctive voice. This book reminded me of one of Larry McMurtry's funnier westerns because it combined humor and pathos. The characters and dialogue are priceless. I especially loved Sam Two Trees' dry wit. I'm heartbroken that Ms. Recknor's earlier efforts seem to be out of print (What is Avon thinking???) but I'm off to search for them in an out-of-print store. After reading PROPHET ANNIE, I would definitely buy anything this author writes--paperback or hardcover--as soon as it hits the shelves because you just don't discover a treasure like this very often.

If you've ever wanted to learn as much as possible from an introductory textbook in the area of Psychology, look no more. This book has served as a tremendous assistant for Psychology, and various other areas of study where psychology is certainly related. If you enjoy learning about cognitive and other behavioral functions of the body, this book is a perfect match!

The authors' use of case studies and real-life examples makes this more than a textbook -- and much more readable than one. I found myself excited about reading each chapter. And I know I'll be looking up things in it in the future. My only quibble is that I found many copyediting errors that I hope the publisher will fix for future editions.
