I have never before seen a literal comparison of the experiences of "leaders" of non biblical groups.
I have new insight on how the enemy works. More predictable than I would have thought.
The book should be available through Walid Shoebats website.

True History

Review Date: 2000-07-11
This book, although fiction, is true history. It was written by Henty in 1894. It's a classic adventure novel right up there in the ranks of Swiss Family Robinson. Henty was an outstanding writer of his time. It's very easy to get lost in this book, I'd be suprised if anyone could read it without putting it down. It's full of references and dialect of days long gone by. I want to jump into a time machine and go live with Tom for a while and quit worrying about traffic and work. I am fortune enough to own an original 1894 hard copy of this book that was given to me by a family friend and will cherrish it for ever.

This book is really exciting and informative.

This book presents a factual side of western history in an exciting way! That is very rare these days. From the first few pages, you are drawn in by young Tom's determination to join his uncle in Colorado and the dangers, joys, and sorrows he encounters along the way. I read this book in five days; it is an impossible put-down! All those who love history or just great stories will love this book.

Innocent Heart, Laughter And Tears is the a personal memoir and biography concerning the life of Maria Marzia Maiello and her family. Born in 1920 in a small town in Italy, she had to abandon her beloved native land with her mother at the tender age of ten, to escape the rising tide of fascism. Together they came to the United States, where young Maria met her father in America. Written by Maria's daughter Antonia Sparano Geiser, Innocent Heart, Laughter And Tears is the amalgamation of many stories Maria and her Mother told directly Antonia, and so Antonia has taken the liberty of collecting and presenting them in first person narration. Innocent Heart, Laughter And Tears reads fluidly, yet it is more than a memoir and a biography; it beautifully preserves a piece of twentieth century Italian-American heritage, culture, and memory.

Facing the teen apathy challenge
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-31
As a youth pastor and organizer of many teen events, I sympathize with the plight of youth ministers. How do you inspire without alienating? Inspire The Fire by Ron Luce goes beyond the usual motivational tips of similar books and deals with the heart of the problem ... teen apathy is a natural result of parent and church apathy. Once a week religion is not born-again religion. In the book, Luce says, "Radical abandonment will free us to communicate more effectively...who you are will...bleed through." He says in another place, "Our teens need the real thing - an encounter with the living God. Once you give them the real thing they will never want the fake stuff again." I recommend this book to anyone who wants to help teens get truly saved. Patrick McIntyre, author of The Graham Formula

I've read reviews where people didn't think too highly of Ron..booo..I know I went to an Acquire the Fire in 1998, and got saved. I know that I've been challenged, motivated, and pushed out of my comfort zone by Ron, and the Interns at Teen Mania. I've met Ron several times, and I know him better than just a "profiteer". I think some people think low of him because they get convicted when he preaches the truth the way it is, and not sugar coated. I've been on a Missions Trip with Teen Mania, and am going this summer to shake the nations of the world with Teen Mania Ministries. THIS man really knows how to Inspire the Fire, and after reading the book, I learned almost all that I know (educationally) about Youth Ministry. Whatever else I know comes from three sources...My Youth Pastor, My experience, and different teachings from Ron.

If you have come so close... order the book! It is one of the most beautiful books I ever read -- and I have read thousands and am a writer myself.
"Isfahan is half the world" is not just a wonderful boyhood tale, it is an essential introduction in to the origins of the problems of modern Iran. Sayyed Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh was one of the major modern Iranian writers, and his father was in the eye of the typhoon of the violent reformer vs. tradionalist and laicist vs. islamist debates in Iran at the beginning of the 20th century.

I bought this book for my 11-year-old daughter because she is a fan of the It's My Life website on PBS and is starting to have some problems with fights with her friends. She really enjoyed the book and we filled out a lot of the activities together. She especially liked the comments from other kids. I think she feels like she has some good "tools" now, we'll see if she can put them into practice. There is a lot of info and I'm not sure she digested it all completely, but I'm hoping she'll use it as a reference for any future problems. My only problem with the book was that I thought the illustrations were a little weird, but my daughter thought they were cool...so what do I know?!?

I am an elementary school counselor and I strongly recommend this book. This book really helps tweens deal with friendship issues, such as gossip/rumors, conflict and making friends. The book design, layout and illustrations are very appealing and the vital information makes this a must have for tweens.

Take the conversation outside of the psych lab
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-11
Insightful and well written. The author puts media into a social and historical context. This topic is typically discussed in sound bites on the evening news and in blaring headlines looking to exploit concerned parents. The concern is exploited by pscyhologists using sloppy experimental design in order to win favor of granting agencies. This book encourages parents to stop being afraid of kids, think critically about what their children are watching and doing, and have a reality check: childhood is not the sanitized version of innocence we think it is, but it is a fantastic time to learn and grow. Parents need to be willing to learn and grow as well. It is a great read and a refreshing perspective.

A really fun read - this book is part social criticism, part pop culture memoir. The author writes about what's wrong with some of the media effects research in a way that is actually entertaining. I wish I could have read a book like this when I was in college. It really gets you thinking.

Early Childhood Revisited

Review Date: 2006-02-11
The author shares her memoirs of British India, through this clever narrative, shifting back and forth from present to past. Her story truly tugged at my heart. As each early 1940's memory unfolded, I became more involved with this little girl. Her fear, pain, shame, and disappointment, as well as her hope, excitement, joy, and love left me crying or cheering. There will be more, as this is the first of a trilogy. "Reprints" is my favorite of several of the author's poems, included after the narrative ends...for now.

A fascinating story of life in British India

Jackals' Wedding is a fascinating book about growing up in British India, and the authors' trip back as an adult trying to understand the mysteries of her childhood. Her family's buried secrets, particularly the mysterious disappearance of her father, make for an interesting exploration into the culture of the times and family dynamics.

I picked up this 500-plus page book on a Wednesday and barely put it down until it was completed on Saturday, four days later. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel.

A Splendid Look Into the Country Parish
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-01
In this work, Ms. Irene Collins presents to the reader a lovely opportunity to look, not only into the clerical connections of Jane Austen, but also into that of the country parish generally. Those who have read through the charming prose of Jane Austen, yet wanted to take a deeper look into the life of the country parson--a profession so many of her characters possess--would do well to read this book. The main body is composed of nine chapters covering the whole realm of the parson's livng; from his education, to the various neighborhoods he occipied, to the nature and method of worship. Within each she eloquently relates the subject matter to Jane Austen herself; by which, the reader is treated to a lovely portrait of the authoress' life. It also contains several illustrations and eight pages of glossed photographs and pictures. Anyone looking to glimpse into the rural parish of late 18th and early 19th century England, which Jane Austen knew as home, would thoroughly enjoy reading this splendid book.

An essential item for Jane Austen lovers

Despite it's rather uninspiring title, this is an excellent book. Irene Collins is a history prof with a special interest in the connection between literature and historical events, and this book is just packed with facts and insights in a readable and entertaining format. It will help you work out just what Edmund Bertram had to go through in order to become the owner of a living, and why Mr Knightly shouldn't be blamed for the appointment of Phillip Elton.I've been a Janeite for four decades and have had the hardback version of this book for five years. I can honestly say that it is one of the two most useful books I have ever found concerning Jane Austen's life and mind, and I am constantly turning to it for reference.

The hardback edition and the paperback seem to be the same format, with differences only in the paper quality and size. There are several pertinent black and white illustrations, great endnotes, bibliography and index. The chapters are logically aranged with simple titles like "The Parson's Education", "The Parson's Wife" and "Morals and Society", and I would estimate that over ninety percent of all examples are taken from JA's life and family or from her works. Other examples are contemporary and exceedingly pertinent.Yet it's still light enough to be read from cover to cover, first time around, if you so wish.

If you love Jane Austen then you need to read this book. It really is great value for money.
