This book was truly remarkable. I viewed the majority of this book as a love story, though it touched on alot of other issues, such as racism, etc etc..On the romance issue, it was the most engaging & intriguing love story I've ever read..this book deserves more than 5 stars!!

I just love reading books with settings in other countries. This is the story of Michael, and Chloe. Michael and Chloe are two women who meet in the states, and from that moment on consider theirselves sisters. Both of the ladies leave the US, Chloe to leave Paris to try to Paris where she assumes people will be more accepting of her paintings. Michael ends up teaching at a college in England, goes against everything she believes in an marries a white man. Chloe is keeping a terrible secret that hinders all her relationship with the men that comes in her life. Michael never really get's over that she marries a white guy, especially when a new teacher from the states come in the picture, and it causes big problems in her marriage. It was interesting in reading what the two women went through to finally find their place in the world. By reading Blackgammon you get to learn something of other cultures, and prespective of black people. A great book, can't wait for her next one.

This story was beautifully written. It spanned places and time effortlessly. Each character and scene was so fleshed out, I felt like I was there. I can't say I agreed with all of the main character's actions and motivations, but it was such a relief, and such a departure from your average, "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, men ain't sh*&, boy gets girl" plots in contemporary black literature. Kudos to the author.

I enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. As an African American woman who is a jewelry maker (as an avocation), I take art/craft/jewelry courses all the time. I meet many "artistic" black women. This book rang true. I have also never been to Paris or Europe, but from reading this book, I feel like I was there. The characters came across as interesting people - hurt, confused, but ultimately talented and able to pull it together. I hope Heather Neff writes more books.

Yes, word of mouth is a good way to spread the word. I did a search here in Amazon of vampire books with good reviews, and this series was one of the first.
The bookstore I usually go to didn't have it, so I had them order it for me. They said it usually takes 2 weeks, so it was ok with me. 3 weeks passed when I went back & found it was never sent! Ugh! They did it again, but I was already planning to get it here. I say it's been already a little over 2 weeks since then & I haven't gotten a call that it has arrived!
No biggie! I ordered it here & I'm half way through & lovin' it!
If you are looking for vampire sex, so far there isn't any, but I haven't finished it, yet. But the story is great! And I read Hawkins is writing the third book. There's even comics!
So I put my 2 cents in! And recommend you get it here, since some major bookstores may not have it.

The novel is definitely a must-read for anyone who enjoys vampire tales. Blood Legacy is a completely different spin on the mythos, one that delves into the science behind immortality. While I have no way of scientifically proving or disproving her explanations for these creatures, I really enjoyed reading about them! It was a very fun book, completely action packed with great heroes and villains! I have already read the sequel and loved it and am eagerly waiting for more novels in this series!

Though the characters here are strong and their conflicts interesting, the book as a whole could have used an editor's strong hand - both for the smaller proofreading errors (streptococcus is described as a virus, and a character is shown knitting a quilt), and for the larger, clumsy moments (like switching the point of view between paragraphs, or providing exposition to the reader by having characters simply state what they know "for the record").
But by far the greatest error here was telling us "The Story of Ryan" without having Ryan as our main point of view character. The whole affair is told via a framing story about a doctor, whose concerns and subplots conveniently vanish once Ryan's storytelling gets into full swing.
This story has a lot of promise, filled with dramatic flourishes that would be perfectly at home in a cinematic medium. It's an easy, entertaining read - and one that I quite enjoyed - with good plot twists towards the end. Just be prepared to forgive a few foibles.

Overall the book is ok, however for a coffee table sized book (It's rather tall, which makes it awkward to store in a bookcase - well mine anyway) there's not enough photos, and a bit too much text. Almost all of the photos I'd seen before, so while most people new to the Bond world might be impressed, there's not enough unique content to make the book a must have. Actually come to think of it most of the text does seem like filler, too generic to be interesting. A book this size shouldn't be a novel, it should be mostly photos. With only one or two photos per actress there definitely needs to be a lot more photos.

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but when I had read other reviews I hoped for the best. This is not the best. So, what one is the best? It is the one yet to be published. yet I will admitt that this one is the best out there that I have seen. A book on Bond women should have a lot more pictures, and more inside stories would help as well; yes, more photos, that would do the trick.

Initially, I bought the Praying for Purpose book to infuse my daily quiet time (plus it was on sale). I was enjoying Praying for Purpose so much that I decided to take the advice at the front of the book and read Pathway to Purpose as the foundational book. Significant time elapsed between my buying the book and actually reading it--mainly because the longer chapters were daunting when combined with my hectic schedule. Nevertheless, I knew I need to really delve into it because I am at a watershed period in my life. Well, once I began reading I was drawn into the contents. I was particularly struck by the author's relation of her own story. She writes with strategic candor--sharing vignettes of her life with precise relativity to the principle being shared. I was not able to fully relate to the first 2 chapters but I appreciated their advance wisdom. I am still working my way through both books because ever so often I stumble on something that takes me a few days to "soak in." Nevertheless, I've enjoyed Pathway to Purpose so much, I bought copies for each of my Women's Ministry Coucil members. I would totally recommend it!!!!!

This book is one of the most significant books I've read in awhile in regard to helping me honestly evaluated God's place in my life and my own motivations for serving Him and relating to others. This book makes me feel like I want to sit with the author and discuss at length the concepts she brings forth in her book. Ms Brazelton must be an awesome mentor.

This book is about a girl who finds out who she truly is through many painful experiences. Cecile, who's humble father never accepts anything from anybody, is very surprised when her father helps a woman who is of French royalty and when she asks for anything to give to Cecile's father, he asks if she might be a servant to the french royalty. Cecile gets whisked away to the palaces of Versaille, which is what "gates of gold" means. She learns proper ediquette, getting a job to tending the woman's 12 dogs. She learns a side of herself that she never thought she had through tending and walking the dogs, also meeting a soon to be "his royal highness" Bretagne, who was about 5-7 years old. Through the dogs, Cecile and Bretagne create a heartwarming relationship, which is tested over the months that Cecile lives at the palace. This book is based on actual history, although the author does a very good job adding her own twist of fiction into the story. This book ends suddenly and heart-breakingly, which I'll warn the emotional readers about. You will love this book.

Cecile is a heartwarming, cheerful and peaceful young girl. Serving at court was one of her most important dreams. However, when she finally got the chance to work there, it was nothing like she had expected. The worst part about working there was being apart from her father. Cecile felt that she had to be there with her father and tend to his growing cold. While at court, she becomes friends with the royal family. This book has many joyful and unfortunalty, some hard times. I would recomend this book to any young girl around the age of 12. This is a very touching book and teaches all a very improtant lesson. Dream big becuase what you dream may come true and change your life forever.

Young 12-year-old Cecile Revel helps save Madame -sister in law to the king- and as a reward, Madame takes Cecile from her poor town of Rileaux to Versailles to work for her Madame's dogs. Cecile is not used to etiquette, and breaks many rules at first. Then she gets into the swing of things and is a great worker. But then an outbreak of measles effect her friends, the king's great grandsons. If you want to know what else happens, you should read the book. I didn't like the ending chapter, so be warned. I would recogmend this book for children 10-15, this being about a French girl with historical hapennings through the book. This was a great book!!

Cecile is a young girl living in 16th Century France. She and her father have little money to support themselves, and are barely getting by. But when she discovers a woman in the middle of the woods, crying for help, her life changes drastically.
The woman turns out to be the queen. Cecile comes to her rescue, and in turn, the queen hires her as a servant. Cecile knows the money will benefit her family, so she gows to work in the palace.
Very well done.

The year is 1711, and 12-year-old Cecile Revel, is a peasant girl living in the French countryside with her Doctor Father. Cecile is stricken by poverty, and her daily life consists of going hungry and facing various hardships. Her one dream is to serve at the court of King Louis the XIV's court, where she will have the opportunity to wear gorgeous gowns, attend balls, and eat her fill of marvelous foods. However, when her dream comes true due to a fluke, Cecile realizes that serving at the court is unlike anything she's ever imagined. Instead of playing, and racing through the lovely gardens, Cecile is forced to spend many long, agonizing hours learning proper etiquette. Then Cecile learns some strange information about her Father, and the short time that he spent at the court, and realizes that maybe court-life isn't all it's cracked up to be.
I have been a fan of the AMERICAN GIRL series for years, and was ecstatic to see the new series PLEASANT COMPANY was publishing for older readers. I received every book in the GIRLS OF MANY LANDS series for Christmas, and while I have only read two, I already know that CECILE: GATES OF GOLD is sure to stay one of my absolute favorites. Cecile is a marvelous character, whose kind nature, and friendly outlook on life are two traits that will have readers wanting to know what will happen to Cecile next. Mary Casanova has done a fabulous job with writing this novel, and her historical information couldn't be better. A must-read!

Creative layout, encouraging information, thoughtfully presented easy reading. This book sheds positive light on a subject most women hate to aknowledge but are always seeking a sure cure for. The Cellulite Cure offers an indepth explaination of what cellulite is and why our bodies are producing it....and that its NOT OUR FAULT. Women who seek information on this subject should read this book before committing to surgery or other treatment because the good news is there is a potential cure which the author is an integral part of. By writing this book, Dr. Bissoon has made us privy to information on treatment that the weathly and beautiful have made discrete trips to Europe for- until now!! Dr. Bissoon has courageously brought the knowledge/discipline of Mesotheropy with him from France-and offers through this book and his practice a real possibility for many women to finally rid themselves of cellulite. The fact that there is a potential for real relief/cure from this unsightly and demoralizing condition is hopeful in and of itself. The fact that its attainable treatment now here in the U.S., in my opinion, makes it very worthy of exploration for any one who is watching their body go into "meltdown". Reading the book is the first step toward understanding what is actually happening to you and why -thus an empowerment tool toward making informed decissions about treatment.

If I had known that the purpose of this book was to sell MesoTherapy services, I would not have purchased it. The before and after photos look impressive. Having had first-hand experience with mesotherapy, it is my opinion that the results portrayed are not typical. Also, mesotherapy does not work well for people who have previously had liposuction. If you are interested in investing in mesotherapy, proceed with caution and be sure to obtain references that you can speak directly with. Do not rely on photos exclusively.

Dr. Bissoon's The Cellulite Cure has very good, scientific information on how and why 90% of women have cellulite. It is an easy read with lots of before and after photos and includes many ways to cure cellulite which the best is mesotherapy. I had an appointment with him and his assistant last week, and I cannot wait to have my first mesotherapy session later this summer. He is extremely friendly and professional and has a true passion for curing cellulite! I recommend his book as well as an appointment with him to all women who suffer from this terrible condition. Enjoy!

Here goes. I decided to try Smart Lipo as I heard it reduced fat, tightened skin and as a bonus helped with the overall appearance of Cellulite. That underlying problem for 90% of us women out there. After having a poor result and being left with a substantial amount of cellulite. I sought out the internet for help. After several hours I was referred to Dr. Lionel Bissoon's website. I sent their office an email and purchased the book. Within a few hours, honestly my prayers were answered. I have had opportunity to read the book and have started Dr. Bissoon's Mesotherapy treatments. Honestly, women you do not have to live another day with the low self-esteem and shame that we carry around with us when we don a bikini or heck even get intimate. I am amazed by the results!! Both from the enormous amount of information contained inside the book and most of all from Dr. Bissoon. YOU ARE MY MIRACLE! And I thank you. Natalie Moreno The Cellulite Cure (TM)

When I first got the book, I immediately flipped to the before & after pictures to see the results of past patients and I was surprisingly impressed of the changes within 2 treatments! I read thru the book and realized this was the best option for me because I hated the thought of surgery, anesthesia, recovery time, etc. I made an appt. to see Dr.Bissoon and he was very comforting & reassuring about the results I would see. I was skeptical about my first treatment but was amazed at my results after my 2nd visit! This was the best thing I did for my legs, tummy & love handles. I know I would have NEVER been able to see these results with plastic surgery. I highly recommend reading this book & visiting Dr. Bissoon! Good Luck!

I play piano, and I like this music. The piano parts, for the most part, have the melody in them and are very pretty on their own rather than being just an accompaniment. Like someone else said, a spiral-bound version would be easier to keep open, but it's not a big deal for me, especially since I'm just playing it for fun.
Absolutely love it!

I am a huge Celtic Woman fan and I absolutely love this songbook. My only complaint, is I wish there were a sequel to it already! The songs are playable and well written and of course, beautiful. For anybody who loves Celtic Woman, this music collection is a must!

I am still in my child-bearing years and I thought I'd get the book to learn more about Menopause and boy did I!! It is informative. It made me dread menopause and not want to look forward to the future of aging.
It may be funny to menopausal & post-menopausal women but it isn't for those who haven't gotten there yet. It seems sad and scary that we have to go through these changes. It's like reading about people who have gone through the horrors of their Wisdom teeth removal and you're dreading your turn!
My mother who already went through menopause did not have any of the symptoms listed in the book so I'm hoping I'll be lucky and escape the horrors of the symptoms.
In all, the book was informative with alot of details of what happens during menopause. Those who already went through it or are going through it will enjoy it better because they can relate to these stories and that they aren't alone during the 'change'.

I loved this book. It helped me to find a sense of peace within. I never knew what that meant until I started practicing some of the techniques in this book. One of my favorite quotes from the book, and there are many is, "Every woman needs two things": her own money and her own room. This book is filled with little gems like that. This is a must read. You'll love it!

This book really helps me on my journaling journey. I appreciate all of Jan's anecdotes that I could relate too. It sounded like she was writing about me, which I will think anyone who reads this book may also find. Jan has a real sense of how we can go inward and "come home to ourselves" through journaling. I love the stories as well as the blank pages with the wonderful quotes that gets the creative process flowing. I appreciate the "tools" this book provides for my journey through life as well as my journaling process. A great gift for anyone going down a similar path.

I feel "Coming Home to Ourselves" is an important tool for the novice as well as the more seasoned wife, mother, daughter, worker, etc. Jan gives very helpful suggestions for assessing just where we are in our self-nurturing, which is an area we neglect in our increasingly hectic lives. She then unfolds how we may begin to better care for ourselves, that in so doing, we can offer better care, not to mention empowerment, to all around us. We don't need to be over-achievers; we must take time for us. Jan, and her book, is a blessing for us all to enjoy.

This wonderful book has been a perfect tool for my group of women friends who enjoy getting into in-depth conversations on personal growth. The author touches on topics and situations that seem to be pertinent to every one of us. Her manner of communicating through print seems to open up long-locked doors, helping us look inside and discover who we really are...and how very "worth it" we are to know. On a personal level I really enjoy the journaling section. I can look at a situation in a totally different light when I reread my entries. Through my written words I finally "say things out loud" that have been rattling around in my brain, undefined and without direction. It's a great book for group or individual exploration.

For thousands of years, woman has been the primary caregiver, not only to her children but to everyone in her world as wife, daughter, sister, neighbor and friend. We were taught to suppress our own needs in order to have more to give to others. In Coming Home to Ourselves, we discover that in fact the opposite is true. When we give from a place of emptiness we just become more empty. We must first create and maintain a reservoir of love and life energy from which to draw. Then we can give to others with joy and love, from a place of abundance. Jan Forrest shows us that by making small changes in our daily lives we can find the time to reawaken the spirit of joy within by giving ourselves the gift of ourselves.

This book touched my heart. I related to the stories and enjoyed the unique lessons that Cheróne teaches with each one. She has a fantastic way of looking at things that really makes sense, plus makes you stop and think! The way she takes ordinary everyday happenings and makes them special by just listening to God talk to her is wonderful.
Like the first story, she tells about a trip she took with her family, evidently when she was a teenager. She tells us how God gave her supernatural wisdom in the situation of reading a page out of a manual that the real estate lady had with her. God also gave her wisdom from on high about the land itself. She never took the responsibility for this, but gave the Glory, Honor and Praise to the Father for what He had done. Not one time in the whole book does she say that it was herself that did any of these things, but instead gives God ALL the credit. Cheróne even states that she is `just average'...it is others that tell her that she is much more than that!
I recommend this book to YOU!
Don't miss her other book, "At San Jose Make a Left" either. More deep stories from a master storyteller.
Buy one for yourself, then another for a friend that you care about. They will appreciate your loving kindness, believe me!

This woman has done it again! Her other book, "At San Jose Make a Left" was positively the best read I have had the pleasure of indulging in for the last several years. You can tell she is anointed and a true Christian. Each story touched my heart, soul, mind, spirit, and made me think of the DEEP things of God.
As a Christian Preacher, I have read many books, so when I say that this one is a cut above the ordinary, believe me, it is so much more than that. Cheróne has a gift of story telling and expresses herself with poise, aplomb and assuredness. Each chapter is a story about herself or someone close to her, followed by the lesson she learned from it, then she backs up whatever she says with Bible verses. Her unique pictures at the end of each chapter is a marvel. I don't know how she can take a word and make a picture of it, but she does a wonderful job.
One of the things that impressed me about this book is that she takes absolutely NO credit for the wisdom, or insights or anything else, but rather gives ALL the Glory, Honor and Praise to the ONE who gave her the ability to discern the insights, wisdom, or knowledge. Never once did she try to take any credit for the work God is obviously doing in her life. She only points to Him and Him alone as the director of everything in her life. As I read her stories, I can see that she is so sold out to God that to think anything else would be wrong. Even unthinkable. Any book she writes has a sale from me! Keep up the excellent work, Cheróne!

Every short story just grips you and will not let you go. Interesting lessons, and Cherone just tells it like it is, and does not back down. The short stories start out with a real happening, then followed by the Insight she received and Bible verses (KJV) to back up what she learned, and then an original drawing that takes a word that embodies the lesson, and swirls designs around it to create a very plesant and wonderful picture. I have never seen anything like it! These stories are powerful, and are wonderful to read. Each one only takes a few minutes, so you can get an uplift where ever you are or what ever you are doing!
Don't miss this Amazing Volume! (Do not miss "At San Jose Make a Left", either.)

I have read and re-read BOTH of Cherone's books and never tire of them! What I like most about her books is the fact that she can take the deep things of God, tell them in a way that does not insult an adults intelligence, but makes it easy to understand that even a 10 year old can easily grasp the concept. I know, because my wife and I use some the stories in our home devotionals and our children learn valuable lessons. There are great lessons in this book for every member of the family. Be sure to read her other book, "At San Jose Make a Left" for it is a gem, also!
She is not only an award winning author, but has been chosen for 2004 Who's Who in America. She is an internationally published author, with her books selling in many different countries. You don't want to miss this one!

I read this book in one setting, and LOVED it! One can say God is with Cherone because of the way she writes and everything she has gone through. Amazing!! I met Cherone at a book signing, and then some time later I saw her in a restaurant. A more humble, loving, caring person you would never want to meet. She acted like I was doing her a favor by interrupting her meal! Both of her missives, this one and her other book, "At San Jose Make a Left", are real gems. Lead you deep into the Spirit of God and make you want more! If someone does not `get the point' of these two marvelous volumes, all I can say is they need to check their Spirituality, for they are going on empty! A person of either gender can get a BIG blessing if they are even mediocre, let alone striving for God with all of them. Outstanding!
Don't miss this book!
