This book is Vincent Tinto's seminal work on attrition and retention in higher education. Although Tinto has produced some more recent works published in noted academic journals, this book is a classic and is cited in many other research studies, articles, and dissertations in the field of higher academic attrition and retention. This work based on social integration of students is an expansion on his initial theory postulated in 1975 and clearly explains how his model of retention works. Although it focuses more on 4-year institutions, 2-year institutions are also included. If you are looking for germinal/seminal work especially in terms of theory and model development in the area of higher education attrition and retention, this book is a must.

John Israel has done an incredible job in collecting materials about this university. It's especially impressive because the university was formed during the Anti-Japanese war, a lot of original materials were destroyed. He gives a detailed, analytical description of the National Southwest Associated University which is unique in human history. He also introduces the reader to the best professors available in China during this time and the patriotism of the students. As a professional historian, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Chinese higher-education.

This is certainly the most comprehensive analysis on a hot-button issue in grade inflation. The framework presented in this monograph clarifies the distinctions yet interrelations of various commonly-misunderstood problems in college grading. It also presents how grading problems could distort student educational decisions such as choice of course work and even major fields. This is more alarming in a policy environment that good grades are rewarded with merit aid.

This is sort of a novelization of Isherwood's years as a student and the between the wars era in England. I find that era fascinating and this book is filled with details about how life was lived back then.

The book is very readable. Isherwood has a distinct, clear writing style that I love. He makes everything interesting. If you liked Berlin Stories I'd expect you'll like this as well. (That's how I came to this book). Highly recommended.

This book is ideal for anyone who is interested in the Little 500--an IU Student, a Little 500 rider, an IUSF member, or a curious fan.
