College and University Books

I am busy so I will not fill you full of a bunch of reasons this book is so great because it was a bit thick to read start to finish. However, I found it nicely referenced and cross referenced on an assortment of topics current in the area of educational sociology. I was able to easily access what I needed and found it helpful for finishing up my undergraduate thesis work. I think if I pursue graduate level work on this topic that I will find many of the findings in this book quite helpful. The book was well cited and written in a natural and easy prose to read.I reccommend this book over the other thirty I read this semester.

Though I have not read this book, I would imagine it to be interesting and of high quality. The author is currently a dean at the school that I attend, and is a fantastic rolemodel for any current or aspiring dean, or any other member of a college's administration.

I've read many articles and study guides and I must say that I was thorougly impressed with this guide because it covers a range of topics. It covers such topics as time management, confidence and getting over anxiety as well as improving learning techniques, reading, research, writing and studying for exams. The approach to learning is both technical and creative but the book is very interactive for its readers, all of which I like very much.

I think that this interaction is very important with the reader because you're learning (yet again) another learning system. But what I found was that it was easier to learn and use than say, What Smart Students Know, yet another wonderful study guide.

It is written in a British style, so it spells organize like "organise" and so on. But that aside, it's a wonderful guide and I found it to be very informative and helpful. I highly recommend it.

Peter French casts a critical eye on big time collegiate sports and their effects on higher education. His work is similar to that of Murray Sperber ("Beer and Circus" and "College Sports, Inc."). French focuses on three commonly held beliefs about college sports that he finds to be largely mythical: that college athletes are true amateurs, that college sports inherently provides character education to its participants, and that college sports provides funding to the university in general. He also examines the issue of gender equity and finds that even several decades after Title Nine, all is not well in that regard either. His final chapter describes what he considers to be the reality of big time college sports, that they are primarily an entertainment and not an educational endeavor.

This book, along with those by Sperber and others, raise important questions about the nature of intercollegiate athletics in the United States.

A really, really good book for all students preparing themselves for the SAT test. Lot of resource, 641 pages... I bought the book and am using it! Pierre Winter - Brazil!

In this slim volume is a gathering of eight enlightening essays that have, as their thematic nexus, the concept of evolution. The contributors have written on evolution in terms of: biology and its historical roots (an essay that brought me back to a unique course I took in my freshman year at Harpur College SUNY); devolopment of the embryo; human history since the last ice age; the city; developmental biology and the emergence of human capacities; the novel; the cosmos; and the unfolding, tool-driven revolutionary birth of science. I have never before found Workers' Compensation Discussions to be discussed in such detail and still remain awake. I found this book to be of high calibre

George Gothals was my mentor when I was at Harvard and I worked with him as my thesis director, for my master's degree. This book was used to help students understand the major psychological paradigms of Erikson, Freud, Sullivan, Skinner, and so on, as applied to actual case studies. For students (or anyone else) who is confused about how any major psychologcal clinical theory is applied to actual cases, this is the book to read for clarification.

This is a book that is readable by non-education majors. It is written by people on the ground and the list of to do items at the end of each chapter should be applied to Universities all over.
