True, Sad Stories...Review Date: 2005-02-23
Each story captures your soul and makes you wonder why we even had to fight.
The saddest thing of all is that war still goes on somewhere in this world and that young people are still being killed just like the ones in the book.
This book must be read by as many people as possible, so perhaps we learn something and war will never start again.
I wonder when we, the human beings, will stop fighting and begin talking, negotiating...
There are books like this for the US as well as Germany soldiers. And, they are equally powerful.
It is said: People who never learn from the past will repeat the same mistakes all over again.
Ever since this book was originally published in 1949, four years after the end of the World War II, it has been one of the best sellers in Japan, even to this day.

LOVING MOUNTAINS LOVING MEN.Review Date: 2006-07-10
The gift of Jeff Mann offers us is priceless. He offers us as clear of a view of his queer life as a poet can make it. I feel privileged to have shared Mann's deep exploration of spirit and flesh. I am grateful. I would encourage folks to take the time to read this book with intent, paying close attention to the stories one tells oneself as Mann skillfully weaves his within the readoer's own heart and mind.
Essential to every reader!Review Date: 2006-02-02
Bravo!Review Date: 2006-01-12
"
Jeff Mann's "Loving Mountains, Loving Men" is as enjoyable as it is painful. I grew up in small town Appalachia as a confused and lonely lesbian. I can relate to all Mann says in his memoir, needing only to replace names and places. It is a scary place to be when you know you are "different" from your peers. Mann's transformation from teenager to the man he is today is one that I am sure many of us or someone we know can relate to. And if you can't, then you need to read this book to understand.
Mann's writing is humorous and colorful. Just when I feel his anger, he gives me a chuckle. When he makes me cry at a loss, he feeds my hunger with a new passion. I cannot help but think of all the "Brokeback Mountain" stories like his there have been, are, and will be in this world. I can only hope that more of us will become strong like Mann in our convictions and struggle to stand up for what is right and good in this life

A calculus book anyone can learn fromReview Date: 2008-05-17
The reasons I loved this book:
1.) The layout is perfect
2.) It was actually very funny reading this book.
3.) Even the hardest calculus concept were explained in a very simple manner.
I am very confident I got a 4 or 5 on the AP calculus exam because having this book along with studying the free response questions from old ap exams. Reading this book was extremely helpful, especially in the beginning learning the fundamentals of calculus.
Very Good BookReview Date: 2007-05-15
Its got a great sense of humor also
every problem is fully explained thats definitly a plus.
the practice tests are harder then the real thing, which is good to know.
unfortunately, anyone who took the Ap calc AB formA knows that the CB gave the hardest FR questions ever. It was nothing like the previous FR questions, and everyone got messed over bad.
i was extremely confident for a 5, and i probably got a 4 now.
good book though.

The best math workbook to start your test prepReview Date: 2008-09-30
I previously used the Barron's SAT Math workbook and found that it overwhelmed the students who weren't very skilled in math and also, for all students, took too long to complete. This workbook can be completed in a matter of weeks. As the author advises, you would use this workbook in combination with the practice tests in the Real ACT Prep Guide.

Notre Dame Game Day Scores Points With MeReview Date: 2003-04-24
Even if you're no "Golden Domer," - and I'm not - you can appreciate the great traditions and spirit that Tucker ably details here. It's an easy read. I was left wanting more, including a couple of midfield seats.

Follow the bouncing ballReview Date: 2006-07-04
Hobson's book is a great read, even in the middle of summer and hence as far from the winter season of college basketball as one can get, for as Hobson informs us, for the true fan, there is no off-season, no time without dread. Basketball, like life, is all about getting ready as a youngster . . . and then enjoying a lifetime of reminiscing. Put a stethoscope to Hobson's heart, and what would one expect to hear if not the echoing bounce of a basketball in a musty summer gym?

The Perfect Book for ParentsReview Date: 2008-10-02
The only criticism I have is the same as another reviewer mentioned. It's a silly title as personally I'm not panicked; I'm simply seeking direction and insight.
The Book to BuyReview Date: 2002-11-01
I loved the amusing, upbeat style. It made me feel as if Sally Rubenstone and Sidonia Dalby were two well-informed close friends who were leading me by the hand through the admissions quagmire. Another thing I really liked about this book was the way it is organized. It was easy to access what I needed ("What do we do when our test scores are awful?" "How do we submit audiotapes or an art portfolio?"), without wading through the sections I didn't. There are "good news" and "bad news" capsules that run throughout the text that are both entertaining and helpful, along with dozens of Frequently Asked Questions. What I thought distinguished the FAQ's in this book from those I've found elsewhere (e.g., in other books, on Web sites, etc.) is that they were sufficiently generic to appeal to a broad audience but not so general that they left me saying, "Like, duh!" For instance, in the chapter called "Money Matters: Financial Planning and Financial Aid," the Q&A's include: "Does a stepparent have to provide information when a child applies for aid?" and "Our family owns rental property. How will that be considered when we apply for aid?" Other particularly useful questions touched on such topics as whether or not to urge a shy child to endure optional interviews, who should (and shouldn't) opt for early decision, and how to get noticed on a wait-list.
In addition to lots of information for everyone, there are also special sections for athletes, students with disabilities, those who wish to defer, and so on. I also thought that the two appendices (a Checklist/Calendar and a Web Site Ready Reference) are alone worth the price of the book.
I really can't recommend a book more highly for parents going through the college admissions process, and even students themselves will gain a lot from reading it. Don't force it on them, of course, but, if you leave it lying around, my bet is that you'll have to steal it back.
