Time In Question is a hilarious tale about young college freshmen and their odd experiences and random thoughts. The story focuses on Sebastian, a sarcastic and sometimes bitter college freshman, who comes to realize the inhumanity of the real world and most importantly the inhumanity of college classes and professors. This book will definitely keep you laughing unless you're one of those "PC" people who don't laugh at anything because to them everything is offensive and demeaning. Either way, it is an intriguing insight into the college student's mind and the mindless banter that occurs between college roommates or even ordinary friends. If there is one critique I have about this book, it would be the lack of deep thought or emotion exuded from the characters, which could have nicely replaced some of the ranting that can get redundant at times. Overall, I think this author has great potential and this being his first book means he can only get better. So take the "Sweet Ride" and enjoy Time in Question...and if you want to know what "Sweet Ride" means, you'll just have to read and find out.

A COMFORTING BOOK

This book helped us a great deal during the final moments of my mothers' life. Ron Wolfson personalizes the Jewish traditions by sharing experiences of other who have lost loved ones.

Moments after our mother died, a Catholic preist enter her hospital room to offer his comfort, embrace and support. He noticed this book in my fathers' hands and was curious. He then wanted a copy for himself so he can better understanf our custims and traditions when helping other Jewish patients and families. He then called our Rabbi and Jewish Mortuary as we still were grieving in that very moment.

A very helpful book

Ron Wolfson's A Time to Mourn, a Time to Comfort constitutes a sensitive and perceptive guide to the Jewish traditions that guide the mourner and those who seek to provide comfort. The tone is honest, tender, and wise. Jewish tradition offers mourners a structure for dealing with the turmoil of emotions and a guide through the days, weeks and months of recovery from a loss. It also guides the community around the mourner with sound and specific advice on how best to reach out to comfort those in pain. Wolfson details these traditions with a gentle and direct how-to approach, explaining both the traditions and the benefits and good sense of those practices.

Singularity Big Time

This is a double publication - SINGULARITY SKY & IRON SUNRISE. The pairing is not accidental - the stories could be considered Singularity Part I & II. The name, TIMELIKE DIPLOMACY, is a perfect description of the themes of both novels - namely the machinations of humanity when faster-than-light travel is developed (thus time travel) and the super-intelligent Eschaton (the name given to the Singularity) must battle those who would return to the past and take steps to prevent its emergence. (A conundrum though - if someone had returned to the past and prevented the emergence of the Singularity how could it be worried about someone going to the past to prevent the emergence.... someone could go crazy thinking of all the causal possibilities).

We are introduced to Martin and Rachel, espionage operatives working for different bosses (Martin for the Eschaton, Rachel for the U.N.) and follow their travails in preventing the destruction of a civilization for attempting to violate the laws of causality. In the second book (IRON SKY) we are introduced to the teenager, Wednesday / Victoria and the newspaper writer, Frank and their fast-paced struggles both to escape those who would do them harm and learn who their pursuers are. Of course all four characters come together in the midst of a frantic action and the story has a good ending. I eagerly await yet another sequeal.

Stross has opened to the reader the world on nanotechnology, smart matter, genetic modification beyond our wildest dream. Indeed, the everyday actions appear to us almost as magic, much as the technological wonders of our civilization would appear magical to someone from the early 20th century. Yielding to readers's pleas, Stross has penned ACCELERANDO, the story of the emergence of the Singularity in the near future. (It does not feature the same characters.)

According to a posting by Stross in the Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine forum, this is an combined edition of the two books mentioned in the subject line.

That said, both books are excellent. _singularity Sky_, in particular, is one of the better science fiction novels of the past few years, combining hard science, Vinge-style speculation, and a strong prose style.

This book is one of the best I've read. I love the story of Boaz and Ruth anyway, and reading it in this form is just beyond words. I also like the fact that our Heavenly Father's Name was used instead of the title. It's a read and re-read book.

What a great book! Even people who aren't really into tigers will be interested in this book. It's hard not to pick it up and flip through all the pictures. Unlike other books I've seen, this portrays the tiger as it really is, a magnificent, majestic, powerful animal, a creature of true design. For tiger lovers and animal lovers alike, this book is one that you should not pass up.

I had great success with these recipes. They came out both delicious and very presentable. Preparing them was an experience that I recommend to any dessert lover. I wish there were more recipes so I will be waiting for a "part II".

What a wonderful book for all ages. I bought the book for my own use. I wanted some ideas for a mural I am painting involving Africa. I also teach Art for grades 2-8 and thought this book would help the children understand God's plan, and show them a little bit of the world around us.

Excellent teaching tool!!!

Far Reaching Depth

Review Date: 2008-02-28
Several things struck me about the documentation of this book and since one Doctor has all ready covered a nice section of the material, I will try and cover some items that were striking to me ... such as a history of three thousand years of grazing rights among what are now, the citizens of about seven different countries. Here in Idaho, we have grazing rights to BLM ground which is Federally owned and managed. These grazing rights and some of the wars between sheep men and cattle men are well documented all across the West. They go back a little over one hundred years.

I also found it interesting that experts could tell that a rug came from one area and that it had designs in it that were not supposed to be there and wars and slavery was considered to be a possible answer.

We have experienced this winter 2007-2008 the winter kill of several hundred shepherds and perhaps ten thousand sheep in Afghanistan. Farther NE we have perhaps seen the end of a complete type of cashmere goat and their herders due to excessive amounts of snow. Which brings up an important fact that all goats and sheep both fat tail and short come from the domestication of these wild herds at various times and various places to produce all the known species that we have now. They all walked the Il Ray ... the ancient Tribal Rugs and the grazing rights and the tribes that produced them down through the millenia.

Infinite Landscapes Woven From Wool

To begin with, Tribal Rugs: Treasures Of The Black Tent is by design a comprehensive reference work. Dealers and collectors will be well-served by Brian W. MacDonald's exhaustive survey of the carpets of Central Asia. But as one spends time hypnotically absorbed in the patterns of the incredibly intricate weavings presented in these pages, and learns a bit about the tribal cultures of the people who created them, one sees that Tribal Rugs is also a profound portrait of a highly evolved art form. An art form that is not pursued in order to create art. But rather unselfconciously, in a utilitarian way. Because the weaving is always done for practical purposes, to meet the needs of the family as it travels from region to region throughout the year. Which makes the infinite patience and unstinting devotion to aesthetic ideal with which the work is accomplished that much more remarkable. My thought about these rugs, about their visual and emotional impact, is that each depicts a rarefied landscape of uncompromising beauty. A landscape that intrinsically possesses meaning and maybe even sacred qualities (many weavings are in fact uniquely configured as prayer rugs). To study carefully these landscapes reveals a world of otherness that endlessly fascinates, captivates, and ultimately challenges thoroughly perceptual complacency with salubrious result.

In a time when books are read then forgotten as easily as crisps at a cocktail party, at last there comes a tale to keep you thinking long after 'THE END'. Chock full of charming characters, interwoven with the skill of a master storyteller, The Twin is a book high on my list of recommendations. A stunning read.

Glory and Rapture Are Real Places

Review Date: 2000-08-03
A truly interesting family story set in the towns of Glory and Rapture,Mississippi. An old and established family is turned on its head when a long-lost son (or is he?), an albino named Collie shows up on Birdie's doorstep and a chain of events leading up to a surprise ending is set in motion. This book is well written and the imagery and language are a delight. The characters are interesting and unusual, yet real. Even if you don't live in the South, you've met these people. Decay, decadence, divine intervention or the lack thereof, all play pivotal roles in this delightful novel.
