I am 19 years old now and I remember listening to this tape as a child...
I still listen to it. This is the kind of children's story that both adults and children alike will enjoy. Bobby Mc Ferrin does the background sound effects and his performance is also magical.

I also Recomend the Elephant's child read by Nicholson with Bobby doing all of the sound effects.
I love the music "MMm Kola kola kola mmmm..."

This book is great. Unfortunately, I lost it and have no idea where it is. I'm loooking for it. One of the things that makes it so great is the excerpt about Herb Elliott, one of my big running heroes. In it, Percy Cerruty goes on a long tirade about how you should only eat raw uncooked foods and train barefoot and live in the jungle and so on; all that Nitzchean stuff that makes him and Elliott so cool.

...but a tongue-in-cheek, unpretentious and very funny guide to the perils of fatherhood, it is. Not really PRACTICAL, in fact not at all practical, but a good little gift for anyone who knows a first-time "expectant father" with a sense of humor. The part about the octopus, the baby, and the sweater really cracked me up. My brother-in-law gave it to me before the birth of our child and while I still don't like him much at least now I know we can laugh at the same things....

"Growing" Butterflies - made easy

I love this book! I originally bought it for my Kindergarten classroom, but ordered more copies for friends and family. It is written in language attractive to and easily understood by children, but with enough information and appeal to launch any would-be butterfly gardener. I had no idea that butterflies are such picky eaters. This book is an excellent source for finding out which butterflies are attracted to which plant. The photographs and illustrations are also great. Thank you, Ms. Hominick, for giving me so many hours of gardening and butterfly-watching pleasure!

Leadership When It Matters
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-31
Neal Michell has written a very helpful book for pastors and lay leaders. We have known for some time that the start up period is critical in the development of a congregation, but most approaches to this topic have been psychological or sociological. This book is missional and leadership in viewpoint and contains many helpful insights for starting right. This book will also be helpful for pastors still within their first five years since many of the issues can be revisited with renewed insight and energy. I commend it to all who care about the health and vitality of congregations.

This is a new publication/model kit (3/99; "Science Action Book") by Marcus Barbor that is great for ANYONE aged 5 and up. The kit, which is actually both a book and a very accurate and detailed COLOR-CODED brain model allows construction of a brain. The book is written at the grade-school level with extensive color illustrations (which makes it similar to most current introductory college textbooks). Chapter Topics: Brainwatching, Nerves, Sleep and Rest, The Eye, Sight, Sense and Movement, Taste and Smell, Memory, Brain Development, How to assemble your brain model. Everything is well-done, right down to the packaging!

I walk into uncharted waters

I'm On My Way Running is a compilation of thousands of writings about girls and young women through their changes from adolescence into adulthood. The writings include excerpts from novels, diaries, journals, autobiographies, multi-cultural traditional songs and much more, and most are fairly short (1 to 3 pages). They come from all over the world, and there is something from almost every culture and religion, from times dating back several centuries to writings as recent as the 1970's.

The book starts with the start of puberty and each section contains writings from the next age to the next until the newly grown women are now looking back and seeing how much like their mother they really are.

This book deals with every issue imaginable to a woman, and many unimaginable to most men, and I find it very interesting. I see a pattern that seems to stay mostly the same in these writings, whether the young woman is a rebel or traditional, whether she wants to strike out on her own or be a house-wife. That common thread has to do with a set of values that is passed in almost every culture from mothers to daughters - a set of values few men ever see or hear of, but that women expect men to live by as common sense. This was extremely eye opening to me, and allows me to be more patient with the female race as a whole as well as with myself.

I highly recommend this book to all women who seek a kindred spirit - whatever background you have, I am sure you will find one in one of those writers. I also recommend this to every man who thinks he will ever understand women or wants to try. No one will ever understand a woman as well as herself, and often she won't understand herself either. But this will give you patience, I am sure.

A Humourous Book Still Pertinent to our Time
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-08
This book, while written in 1971, still has lessons for our time--perhaps a depressing thought for us today, or a testament to Burton's writing and forward-thinking. She talks about basic issues of how to divide housework, how to deal with difficult issues of gender differences and divisions, and how to raise a family with positive values. This book is a good, quick read, and I recommend it highly.
