In RUN TALL, RUN EASY coach GP has created a must-read for runners(beginners, experienced, young, old, and everything in between). I had the pleasure of meeting GP and hearing him speak one day before my 1st marathon, his words and techniques inspired me to finish in 4:09:46, blowing away even my own expectations. Without any prior racing experience and having trained only 8 weeks i was thrilled with my time!!! I highly doubt, in fact know, it wouldn't have been such a succes if it wasn't for his wisdom. Already planning a second marathon-looking for sub four hours baby.... Coach GP and his book will make your dreams whether it be runnning a 5k to 1st marathon become realities, RUN TALL, RUN EASY.... dougfuino long branch, nj

I am a veteran runner who has completed 23 marathons.
I found the book to be entertaining as well as informative.
I loved the story of Joe, it is a story that many runners can relate to. I think the most interesting thing Coach GP has done is write a book that can be understood by novices, yet be informative to seasoned runners. The strength training section I found to be especially useful. The book is a must read for all runners.

Ive finally found a book I couldn't put down.Very enjoyable as well as informative. Too many books on running have bored me into not finishing them, but not GP's. I have followed his advice daily and have already seen improvements after a few weeks. I even feel better! I highly recommend this book to anyone with a desire to improve.

This is the finest distillation of running technique that I have ever read. I personally improved my marathon time by 1 hour after listening to a lecture from this books author before the Detroit Marathon last year. This book is not beyond the comprehension zone of a midlife runner seeking improved fitness or a goal such as running a marathon. This guy has put outstanding coaching into reading that connected with me in an "aha" very deep level.

Experienced Advice in a Friendly Tone - Enjoyable

Reading GP's book is like sitting down for a beer (or two) with your favorite friend - who also happens to be very knowledgeable in the field of distance running.

My study is full of books on endurance training. GP's is a practical one which I have returned to many times in the few short months I've owned it. It is practical and easy to read. GP's core ideas (his Fab 4) are well grounded in science and he offers practical advice on how to apply them in everyday training.

It is a pleasant book - and it has been a very helpful book. For any distance coach looking for a user-friendly tone in what can be a very technical & scientific sport it is 14.95 well spent. The athletes I coach will benefit this season from GP's Fab 4 and his Top Twenty core exercises. I have benefitted already from the friendly tone and easily understandable nature of GP's writing style.

Joe Henderson & Joe Ellis do a fine job of covering just about every running injury humanly possible. Strengthening, stretching, proper technique, cautions, encouragement, this book includes it all. As a gravity-challenged strider, I personally consider this a valuable resource, and recommend it to anyone who walks, hikes, or runs.

"Nagging Pain" vs. Serious Injury

If you run fewer than 30 miles a week, have never uttered the words "my coach" or "my physiotherapist," have never won more than a goodie bag at a 10k... in short, if you are a committed, non-elite, non-professional runner, this book is a must.

This is not to say that professionals won't benefit - they will. But for those of us who don't receive regular training-level medical attention, the great value of this book lies in its ability to clearly distinguish nagging pains that you can often home-treat from those that - even from the first twinge - signal something more serious. Add it to your running library.

If you are a runner for nontrivial amount of time, you are very likely to experience some sort of injury already. I did. And I hope I could have bought and read this book before I started running.

The book covers many common forms of injuries experienced by runners, and gives several treatments you can practice in home. Even if you do see a doctor later, the book is an excellent introduction to what happens to your injury so you can coordinate with your doctor in a more helpful way.

The book is written in a very plain and easy to follow way which is a big plus for non-medical background person like me.

I recommend this book to any runner. If you just start running or plan to run, buy and read this book. You won't regret it and could avoid many possible painful results.

I find that this book has been very helpful in my running and triathlon training. The first few chapters are very good, replete with some basic theory about running and remaining injury free.
The second third of the book is very informative regarding injuries and their treatment.
The last part of the book has great stretching exercises, and good information about how to stay injury free.
My only criticism of the book is based on a comment that my physical therapist had. I've recently had big problems with sprained ankles in both feet and receive physical therapy from a PT specializing in runners. I discussed the book and the chapter on ankles with her and she mentioned that the chapter only describes the author's success and that for every successful treatment outcome, there are lots of not-so-total successes. It would be helpful to understand both.
But overall, a worthy book to buy and read and re-read as the need arises.

My favorite "Injury" book to date!

Not only did this book manage to supply the info I needed in enough detail to be meaningful, particularly with the case studies, it was actually an entertaining page-turner. The author had such a human voice and managed to entirely avoid the tone of smarmy condescension that seems to be rampant in books of this sort. I was particularly won over by his willingness to even poke fun at himself as a case study. I certainly came away with a new respect for the field of podiatry in sports medicine.

I must agree with the other reviewers here that Cathie Pelletier has done it again. She has managed to capture my imagination with her real-to-life characters, emotional plotlines and page-turning style. I enjoyed the parallels drawn between Howard's state of mind and Hemingway's masterpiece The Sun Also Rises, as he struggles to come to terms with all the life-changing events he faces.

Do yourself a favor and get this book, curl up on the couch, and enjoy. Pelletier is truly one of America's outstanding writers.

I got this book as a birthday present and, not knowing anything about its author, I let it sit on my desk, unread, for months. I'm so glad I finally decided to give it a chance. Cathie Pelletier writes beautifully and truthfully, her characters seem as real as they are quirky and attractive, and the whole novel is just a pleasure to read. Right after I finish writing this review, I'll order another book by this talented author.

Man, can Pelletier create an unforgettable batch of amazing characters, the more pathetic they are, the better. The portrait of late-middle-aged male angst in the person of Howard is just priceless. And Pelletier has such an eye for the mundane but hysterically funny - the old pink clothing in the laundry schtick somehow elicits laughs under her deft penning of the event and its context. The references to MacBeth and to The Sun Also Rises lend a deepening dramatic line to what is continually a laugh-out-loud series of events poor old Howard puts himself through. His pain is real, make no mistake about it; a sudden, shocking admission of betrayal by his beloved wife sends him into a frenetic series of events that careen him from here to there and back again in an effort to prove his manhood and to regain his sense of self. Running With Bulls is filled with humor, and fraility, and heroism, and is so very human. Would we find ourselves in Howard? Oh yeah, pink wardrobe and all. Great book! Great read! Great author!

The reader is invited to join in on a hunt for someone else's personality. How often is one able to do this in such an honest approach that lends insight into one's own? Cathie Pelletier is a superstar-author with her witty style and individuality. But sometimes one has to find out on his or her own instead of being told. Trying Running the Bulls for yourself!

I laughed and cried all the way through this marvelous book. I am a Cathie Pelletier fan of many years and was thrilled to find this new offering. Dare I say that the book is heart warming? Not in a sappy way, however, but because likeable people do unlikeable things but love and common sense triumph in the end.

A great insight into the world of the 'forgotten superheros', the people who deliver the news of the tragedies that occur. This is very interesting, giving lots of different points of view from across the affected area. It could have done with more pictures and photos, but the stories of the pressure-filled newsrooms paint a good enough picture to keep you interested throughout this book.

From Library Journal Reviews ; October 1, 2002 Tuesday By Audrey Snowden
The Newseum, an interactive museum of news located in Arlington, VA, was operating as usual on September 11, 2001. After seeing smoke billowing from the ravaged Pentagon, its staff members immediately closed the museum and worked through the night assembling an exhibit of wire service photos from around the world. This book is the outgrowth of that initial exhibit. What sets it apart from the plethora of books on 9/11 is its focus. Told chronologically through 100 first-person vignettes and 75 powerful color and black-and-white photographs, the book covers the varied experiences of members of the press. Big-name anchors weigh in, but the stage belongs to the reporters and photographers who usually work behind the scenes. Authors Trost, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, and Shepard, award-winning media critic, provide a firsthand - and very human - look at the process behind the coverage, revealing how the immediacy of ongoing television and Internet coverage helped journalists, photojournalists, and anchors shape a nation's perception of a tragically unique day. A valuable addition, especially to school libraries. - Audrey Snowden, formerly with Clark Univ., Worcester, MA

Heroes for one day

This is a round of fraternal applause for American journalists, who earned everyone's sincere respect on September 11th. Journalists from all levels of the profession who were on the story are interviewed. Their tales are then spliced up and laid out in chronological order, from onset to post-traumatic jitters. The professionalism on display here is absolutely superb. Most people have some idea of how hectic the job of getting the news produced each day is. Here we have the spectacle of these brave professionals getting the job done minus most of their familiar tools and surroundings, and plus a soul-sucking fear that they or their colleagues are about to die. No smirks, no condescension, no "women and minorities hardest hit" credentializing.

So is this book an adequate tribute to them? Yes. Can't go wrong. The text is punchy and hot-off-the-presses, and the photos really crackle. There is a problem, though.

The book seems to discriminate against Foxnews. Apart from a screenshot of Shepard Smith and a photo of a correspondent at the Pentagon, Foxnews is excluded from this collection. This is very strange, since Foxnews is based in New York and is the number four American news network, behind the networks and ahead of CNN. Could it be that the Newseum staff who edited this book don't consider those eeeevillll conservatives to be *real* journalists? That's a nasty thought, but what other explanation could there be? Even a reporter from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, in town for a fashion show and caught up in events, is quoted multiple times. To be sure, staff from the Wall Street Journal are quoted extensively, as their offices were hardest hit.

Apart from that, the book is gripping. The journos' professional instincts snapped into action. Taking to bicycling when traffic congeals, giving the cordon police the slip, phoning Mom to relay a report second hand, the ingenuity and dedication is impressive. There's also a seldom-reported sensitivity. Some reporters pitch in with relief efforts. Some cry along with the sobbing victims they are interviewing. There's only one case of a reporter getting the bum's rush, from some firemen who were trying to catch their breath.

We get all meat in this book. The actual TV broadcasts that day were teeming with hastily miked-up guests experts, helping the gabbling anchors fill air time until actual news got into their earpieces. But ever the pro, Peter Jennings signaled for silence on the set when the towers came down. No comment was necessary.

It might have been nice to include a story or two from a West Coast news outlet. When the attacks happened, I couldn't get into any of the national news websites. I finally connected to the Sacramento Bee's site. The webmaster was frantically posting up wire photos and rolling copy through, with what must have been a small, sleepy crew.

And then in a few weeks things were back to normal. NPR's Loren Jenkins blurted in an interview that he would "smoke out" and disclose the location of any U. S. troops on a secret mission, if it meant getting the story. The TV news people harrumphed at Fox for wearing lapel flags, fearing that the sight of the national flag on the set would signify support for the Bush administration and not the country as a whole. Reuters insisted on calling Arab terrorists "militants", and putting "terrorism" in skepticism-implying quotation marks. The liberal pundits covered the Afghan war like children in the back seat whining "Are we there yet?" New York Times editorial page editor Howell Raines concluded that the war on terror was Vietnam II, and used his page of that august newspaper to try to block further retaliation. But even with all its faults, the American press is mano-a-mano the greatest in the world. It's inspiring to see this record of how great it was on a day when it laid its faults aside.

I bought this book for my three year old because we were both captivated by its pictures and its fanciful rhymes. It is visually arresting, with allusions to japenese art, and Northern Renaissance art, and more that I'm sure I'm not catching on to. It is a little dark (skeletons, some creepy looking critters), but don't underestimate what children can process. Still, my son actually got upset that he cannot ride these rides; they do look fun (far from the Dumbo Ride, probably could not get insured). No, it is not what you want for teaching the alphabet, or counting but it is unique and gives children something a little less ordinary. We have had this book for a year now and he still goes and pulls it out of his bookcase for us to read to him at least once a week.

I read this book at Barnes & Noble one weekend night to my son. It's a weekend thing we do along with my friend and her daughter. I fell in love with this book, and I'm not sure either if I'm buying it for my son (9 months) or myself. I went back to Barnes & Nobles to purchase it and the arthur had requested the books back from what I was told because none of the copies had sold. I was shocked! It does cost more at B&N but I may just pay the few extra dollars because the book is so amazing. I love the artwork!! I have also read/looked through Floatsom-another book with great pictures!! EXCELLENT!!

It was refreshing to read a book about twins that wasn't all research and statistics. This book tells a short story about the lives of twins that are either famous or have accomplished something extraordinary or stick out in some other way. Notables are Muhammad Ali's twin daughter, the Hennessy's, Tamera and Tia (Sister Sister show), Mario Andretti and his twin Aldo and Jane Seymour's twin boys. Also the story of the Jim Twins (in every book about twins) and the famous Hensel conjoined twins.

Very interesting reading, and I agree it's a good coffee table book. I do think they should have more boy-girl and other fraternal twins sets represented though.

A book that looks pretty on your coffee table.

This book truly touched my heart. I am a twin and felt that it honestly portrayed the many complex and deep emotions and issues that twins experience. I can't wait to share this book with my twin and family! And there are so many amazing people in the book. I didn't realize Muhammad Ali and Jane Seymour had twins. And how different each relationship can be, yet also have such commonalities. I absolutely love this book and find myself opening it up often to read an essay and look at the beautiful photos.

I have only stage managed three shows so far, but thanks to what I learned in this book I received a great compliment - Thanks for your work, you were so professional, I look forward to working with you again. This is a must have for a stage manager. I feel that as I progress and do more (including hopefully professional jobs someday) I can continue to refer to this book and hone my skills.

As a recent graduate with a BFA in stage management, I have found Kelly's book to the the most in depth look at the craft. It addressed more complicated issues, and most interestingly, new developments, that the other books I've read(Stern, Ionazzi) don't touch on. I agree that it isn't a book for a beginner, but for someone with a little experience, looking to refine their skills, its the best book out there.

Besides, being such a good book, it is priced very well. The only books that are comparable in content cost at least three times as much.

A must have for everyone seriously interested in stage managing.

From the minute I picked this book up it has become my "bible". Chock full of helpful tips and funny stories of the author's experiences as a stage manager. Not overly technical - with lots of helpful forms to smooth the way for a production (and the stage manager's nerves)! Have it with you through every show - before, during, after. Bravo! Encore!

One should never judge a book by its' cover, however, it was love at first site for me. This is an amazing work of art- and a definite coffee table book where I keep mine. The photos are impressive and the overall layout of the book is sensible and overall easily read.
The recipes are wonderful; each has a slightly different twist of ingredients that add to the delight of the finished product.
I orginally purchased this book for a friend as a birthday gift and once having seen it purchased one for me.

I ordered this book sight unseen, largely from the reviews and the fact that I loved the cover. It is the perfect kitchen-garden cookbook...full of delicious recipes you'll actually use from ingredients you likely have on hand or nearby. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to cook...especially those with an interest in garden to table cooking.

Elegance and simplicity.

What a beautiful book. This author is the real deal. I have been a fan of her innovations for years. Jeanne's recipes are creative, delicious and user friendly. And seriously, if you want to increase your popularity, use the chocolate cake recipe and make cupcakes. Bring these to a social event. You will have instant best friends! (And maybe a new lover, or two.)

This book has it all - a beautiful cover, a gorgeous inside and, most important, recipes that are absolutely delicious and go hand-in-hand with your garden. Suggestions for what to have on hand in the kitchen will get you started on the right track, and composting advice will keep your garden and your planet healthy for years to come. "Blue Eggs and Yellow Tomatoes" makes a wonderful and unique wedding gift - perhaps along with an herb or two for fun! Enjoy.

I just purchased this book and I'm in love......it is a beautiful book with emphasis on simplicty, flavor, and sophisication. I love the idea of home grown foods....the full-page photography and artistic text are fabulous...we just made the chocolate chip cookies and it was fabulously delicious. I have collected many chocolate chip cookie recipes and this is the best one....although I must confess that I used good bittersweet chopped chocolate instead of the milk chocolate chips. Another great aspect of this book is that it utilizes exotic flavors and incorporates world cuisines, such as Cuban, Morocco, Greece, Middle Eastern, Mexican...the results are delicious, elegant, and contemporary. For any serious cook, this is a treasure.

Michael Green's 1983 Unicornis is one of those magical books that actually makes you believe.

Presented as a fascimile of an ancient Medieval manuscript, the journal of one Magnalucius, member of a mystical fifteenth century order of philosophers and mystics, the Collegium Gnosticum (College of Knowledge), located near Ravenna, Italy, this book is simply magical.

Green presents it as his translation of the ancient Codex Unicornis, entrusted into his safekeeping by one Frater Iamblicus, a member of the Order. The book consists of the fascimile manuscript pages, done up in very authentic-looking Medieval style, and Green's translation of the Latin text. The illuminations and paintings are spectacular! So cleverly crafted and enchanting is this book that, even though I knew it was fiction, I still kept asking myself, Is it possible this could be for real? I even found myself carefully studying the illuminations and paintings in the book, trying to ascertain whether they were authentically Medieval or not. The book is THAT GOOD.

If you want a truly enchanting book that will make you believe in unicorns you simply MUST locate a copy of this book. Medievalists and lovers of fantasy will delight in this book.

This is a beautifully composed and illustrated manuscript from an obscure monastery in late Medieval Europe, combining "Medieval style mysticism" with "Renaissance style inquiry" to present a work dedicated to the arcane lore of the unicorn. Selected pages of the manuscript are reproduced (with amazing drawings) and the Latin translated. What I liked most was the layout and atmosphere of the drawings and text which makes a few thousand words and dozen pictures into a great book. A great find!

Of all the unicorn books that I've read, this is the book I believed in the most. It leaves the reader with awe and wonder. A great cure for doubt and loss of innocence.

This is a wonderous achievment! De Historia et Veritate Unicornis is a book that really a translated version of a 'book' or just some writing/notes (with drawings) about the Unicorn. I am an avid fantasy reader and this book was a great find! Unfortunately, this is out of print, but if you ever find it, make sure to buy it and enjoy its beauty and let yourself believe!
