Great intro to Greek mythology!!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Somewhere between fiction and anthropology, Start Exploring Bulfinch's Mythology recounts the famous Greek myths, with guides to pronunciation for the Gods' names. The stories are retold by Steven Zorn, who has shortened and simplified them for a younger audience. It is a great introduction to ancient Greek culture and religious legends, and will definitely help the student later, since literature and history allude to these famous tales. Alongside the stories are giant pictures to color in. The text and illustrations work together to make an awesome little book. I highly recommend it!

Very small and full of good information
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-10-15
This small format pocket size guide is divided into three parts - Gardening from the Ground Up, Plant Portraits, and the Practical Gardener. The first section includes a wealth of information on critical factors for a successful garden. Some of the items discussed include climate, rainfall, wind, sun, soil type, drainage, and garden design.

The Plant Portraits section is by far the largest section of the book and grouped by annuals and biennials, perennials, bulbs, roses, vegetables, herbs, groundcovers, and vines. For each plant the authors include descriptions (height, colors, etc.), tips for growing (when to plant, how to thin, transplanting, etc.), and other useful information. It also has a small section of photographs for several of the more common plants.

The Practical Gardener section primarily covers equipment, pests, and diseases. The pests and diseases portion is good in that it covers characteristics, symptoms, hosts, and controls. While not a very thorough treatment of the pests and diseases it does cover the most common ones. The last part of this section has an excellent listing of plants organized by environmental preferences and uses. For example, it lists appropriate plants for bright sunny areas and for thickly shaded areas as well as ones to use for a cutting garden, for attracting butterflies, etc.

If you are looking for a smaller book that is easy to take along to the garden center but thorough enough to have all the most common information you can't go wrong with the Burpee Gardening Cyclopedia.

A delightful Book showing the many sides of Calder
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.

I looked for a long time for a Book on Calder before I found this beautiful, yet well priced Volume. It's all here from the Toys and the wonderfully playful "Calder's Circus", to the Mobiles and Stabiles, with Jewelry, Household Objects, Bronzes, Tapestries, Rugs, Sculptures and much more in between. There are many wonderful photographs which showcase the wide array of Calder's Art and of course Calder himself. Also included are a timeline, a useful Bibliography and an interesting "Who's Who in Calder's World." At $ 32.00 this book is a must buy of one of America's most important and influential Artists of all time.

Easy to read & understand, especially for first-timers

Friends and family actually think I've campaigned before, when all I've done is study Ms. Golden's book! This book has been a fantastic resource for me, who, even with two co-managers (fellow rookies) helping out with my first campaign, is taking on alot of the management tasks. You'll have a lot of details to attend to during your campaign; this book has tables and end-of-chapter summaries to help you avoid dumb mistakes and keep your campaign machinery humming.

If time is short and an organized campaign is essential, then so is this book.

The finest of capture and seduce erotica ...
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 20 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-19
Captured deals with Maya, a young girl on the US West coast who is captured by two 'ner do' wells and then sold to Etheus, the hooded leader of a hidden and secret sex cult. The good doc is able to keep her on the verge while Maya certainly is taken thru the 'paces'...

In other capture and discipline books this is where it usually would end, but, this book actually has a story in that Maya is driven home to her boyfriend since our cult leader knows that once she has tasted the forbidden fruit she'll be back for more, and more, and more .....

This is a modern story of 'O' but definitely two cuts above the classic .... eroticism at its best ...... of course ... it's by James Jennings the MASTER ....

Enchanting!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1998-03-23
Although difficult to find, this beautifully illustrated little tome is an essential in the library of anyone who is enchanted with our feline friends.

Written by a hereditary witch, the more than 50 spells were inspired by the journals of the author's great-grandmother, a Victorian "wisewoman".

It is written in an engaging style, with each of it's 89 pages framed in alternating black and white or full-colour moon, star and sun borders.

This book is divided into categories, such as: "Naming your Cat", "Healing Spells", "Spells for Love and Enchantments", "Spells for Good Luck", "Weather Spells" as well as two delightful "Fairy Spells", and an index to the individual spells.

An example of a magickal name for a female cat is given as:
"Aurelia
"'Golden': for a queen who is
"haughty, flighty in her affections,
"beautiful in appearance, adores
"home-comforts and luxury; she is
"disdainful of other cats."

I was delighted to receive this book as a birthday gift, and I highly recommend it!
