Running Books

Paavo Nurmi of Finland holds the record for gold medals and overall medals in track and field in the Olympics. This fascinating story not only describes the life of Nurmi but also briefly covers the modern history of Finland which was still part of Russia when it competed in the 1908 Olympics for the first time. Nurmi first ran in the Olympics in 1920, and along with the "Flying Finns", did well in the track and field events for sixteen years, coming in second behind the United States several times. This Amazon short is well worth the 49 cents.

This amazing little book was years ahead of fitness books in the 70's. In a few pages, Mike describes weight training, nutrition, running routines, mental tricks and body-mind experiences. Stuff that you normally do not see in a running book. I picked this book up while a young man in the army and within a few months, I was one of the fastest runners on base. More than once, I have used the visualization techniques to win a race. The beauty is that I actually trained less, but trained and ate better. Now in my late 40's I still refer to this handy training manual.

My children love looking at the pictures, although they rip the pages a little too often. My wife and I enjoy spending time reading to them and telling them about the world of pirates.

This was the first book that my son loved as an infant. He loved to lift the flaps & touch the sparkly pictures. He could stare at & play with a page for a long time while I prepared dinner. At 18 months he still enjoys this book & learning the new words, shapes, & colors.

My 5 year old spotted this book and just had to have it. Once she opened it, I could see why. It comes with a gold band and a place for the 12 different birthstones so a child can have a new ring for each month. It also comes with a cute little book that has all kinds of information on birthdays like birth flowers, birth colors, famous birthdays and much more. When my daughter brought it for show and tell, she was surrounded by her classmates (girls and boys) just waiting to get a better look. It's the perfect birthday gift for any little girl.

I can't believe how fast my daughter (7) has progressed! Yesterday, she picked three of her favorite characters and did them free hand. They were wonderful!

My son (4) decided to create his own characters after being inspired by the DVD. They were funny and very playful.

Both are having a great time with their DVD's. I recommend this to any parent whose child loves to draw, regardless of skill.

Finally, after purchasing 12 or so books on flower arranging, I found what I was looking for. This book has pages of principles of flower arranging not just a couple. Most books have mostly just examples of arrangements and how to make their arrangements, they don't teach you about flower arranging. I highly recommend this book if you are trying to teach yourself or you are learning the principles of flower arranging. It is an older book but it still is a great resource.

I ordered this as a gift for my son who always asked "WHY" something happened a certain way. Great for curious minds.
