"At first, I started running 1-2 miles a day with my son. This really helped me build up my endurance". I liked his perspective much better because it related to you personally.
The book contains different sections after his narrative containing information on various aspects of running, for instance, pain. He talks about and lists all the various symptoms he expierenced while running. Another section was talking about tips about running. For example, always run next to the sidewalk in the grass rather than on it.
Overall, I loved this book, and would recommend it to ANYONE interested in running or becoming a runner.

Easy to read, easy to follow...Review Date: 2008-11-15
This book is well written and easy to follow. It begins with several chapters that discuss the basics such as buying a pair of running shoes (Very, very helpful and very important!), how to train and how to avoid/minimise injuries. It then offers six different training programs from beginner to competitive runner. The last section of the book gives a chapter to go along with that weeks training program. Very easy to follow, as I mentioned before.
One of the things I really like about the book is that it is not technical in any of its explanations. It is clear and concise. (Did I mention easy to follow?) An easy read, if you like?
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to complete a half-marathon. I have now signed up for the distance and will be using one of the programs.

Best running book I've seen yetReview Date: 2004-11-05
Moore's insights are fascinating. "Best Efforts" gives you a glimpse of the minds of the elites. The piece on Ron Clarke, who would always take the race out hard because he thought it was dishonest to do anything else, is especially intriguing. I also enjoyed the articles on Mary Decker, the Experiment, and John Akii-Bua. Moore's writing about his own life experiences as a child, training under Bowerman and alongside Pre, and then in the Olympics, is equally enthralling.

Maledicta, "the journal of verbal aggression", is a small journal edited by Reinhold Aman. You can read about Maledicta and Aman via google and Wikipedia. If you've ever wondered why our curses are phrased the way they are, read this book.
