Mike Schneider has the ability to bring delightful joy to a solitary and usually humorless sport. His keen sense of humor is subtle, dry, and second to none. I don't even run and I truly enjoyed the book. I look forward to his next entry.

Finally, a book for the runners! Schneider & Nassif have taken those oxygen-deprived insights we've all had and compiled them into one of the funniest and thought-provoking (yes, I said thought-provoking) book of cartoons ever published. I know I'll have their hilarious visions of "The Wall" to inspire me on my next marathon. If you are a runner, you will love this book!

This is one of the best books in the whole philosophy and pop culture genre.

For philosophers, the essays feel like they come very naturally out of the topic. They are wide-ranging but all grounded in running--no stretches to get the philosophy in. It's as effortless as a comfortable pace can be.

For runners, there is an informative development of ideas that you've probably started to have in your own running, but haven't seen through this far.

Fun, challenging, motivating.

Thought provoking, time well spent

I picked up this book at the perfect time and that is why I am giving it 5 stars. I originally got into running like a lot of people in high school as part of the cross country team. I only ran cross country as a way to get in shape for basketball season. After high school I stopped running and did not pick up the sport again until after my Step-father was diagnosed with cancer. He was a big time runner and had a 10 year streak of competing in a local 13.1 mile race. So I stepped in to run in his place to keep the streak alive. After his passing, I ran my first marathon in his memory and in the process found out a lot about myself. I have been running ever since, taking on 5K, 5 milers, halfs and marathons, all the while becoming more engrossed in the sport of running as well as the psychology behind it. As a child running is as natural as breathing, then at some point it became a chore and now it gives me the time and space I need to think in our modern world. This book simply shares the thoughts of others who have found similar insights from running. Happy trails.

Alexis Chandler is a gemologist. She travels far and wide searching for diamonds and rare stones for her business. Lexie is on her way to Thailand to finally get her hands on the elusive Heart of Burma, a large, perfect cut ruby. In order to get it Lexie is partnered with Cole Bannon. Cole is sexy and attractive and their partnership is explosive right from the start. It's also riddled with danger, lies and deceit. Lexie can't trust Cole but she's slowly falling for him anyway.

Lexie knew finding the ruby would be difficult but she didn't know she would lose her heart and possibly her life in the process.

With sexual tension so thick you could cut it with a knife and steadily growing suspense and danger, Running For Cover keeps the pages turning fast. On one hand Cole is handsome, sexy and irresistible but on the other he lies through out most of the book. Lexie is very cool. She's beautiful, tough and capable. Although the story ended before I was ready for it to because I wanted to see Cole and Lexie removed from it all, Running For Cover is a very engaging and well-written story.

Michelle Spring has a wonderful talent for handling dark and challenging subjects in a way that is not depressing or grim. In Running for Shelter, she tackles the subject of slavery in modern England with a deft hand. What I love best about this series is the keen appreciation Spring has for English culture. Every phrase, every description illuminates in some way, without being overdone, and the overall portrait of the country and culture is an authentic and even-handed one. She has written about a newsworthy and frightening topic without getting on a soapbox or digressing into lectures. This is an entertaining and suspenseful mystery that will also leave you wondering about what "civilization" really means.

London private investigator Laura Principal, co-owner of the Aardvark Investigation Agency, has more than enough to do in both her personal and professional lives. Her partner and lover, Sonny Mendlowitz, is pressuring the gun-shy Laura for a deeper commitment. Her best friend Helen wants her to stay more often at their jointly owned cottage in the country. Finally, her workload is just about to the point of massive overload. Yet when a Filipino girl, who works for one of Laura's clients, mysteriously disappears, Laura is compelled to learn what happened to her. .....The investigation initially appears doomed to failure when her clients. the Butlers, deny any knowledge of the missing girl. Luckily, Laura finds a neighbor who disputes the Butlers' claim and witnessed the girl being forcibly taken from her employer's house. By the time the missing girl's body is found, Laura has amassed an array of suspects who could have done the deed. As Laura digs further into finding the murderer, she places her life and the lives of two innocents on the line. ......Laura is a fascinating woman of the nineties, confident in her ability to perform her job even though it can turn dangerous without a warning. Still she is uncertain in her personal life. Michelle Spring makes her heroine come alive and, in doing so, has the audience rooting for her every step of the way. Running for Shelter is a cozy British police procedural, long on investigation, but short on action. It is a cerebral mystery that challenges and entertains the reader quite nicely. .....Harriet Klausner

This is a fast paced story about child advocate,(CASA) Allie Hudson, who risks everything to protect a young boy, Davy Lopez, from unknown predators. To find out who is chasing them and why, she flees across five states to seek help from an old friend and lover, Beck Williams.

Beck is a former Special Forces Operative and now nature photographer and wild life biologist. He has a ranch in Colorado where he is studying the wild horses. He takes her and the boy to his ranch for their safety and together they start trying to solve the mystery.

The constant action will keep you on the edge of your seat. The romance that is rekindled between them with all of its twists and turns is just as exciting as the desperate search for answers. And, the terrifying ending to the chase will have you glued to the book all the way to the end.

I would love to see this book become a movie. It would have something for every one.

In Texas when Judge Berriman decides to return seven years old Davy Lopez to the child's abusive family, his Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Allie Hudson is stunned. Fearing for the kid's life and distrusting the child welfare system which sent no on to appear in court, Allie considers running away with the child. When she sees his home she makes a decision to go to her hometown in Colorado.

Wildlife biologist Beck Williams agrees to hide Allie and Davy for now on his family ranch. He knows he still loves Allie but has never forgiven her for abruptly running away without a word twelve years ago. Allie also loves Beck though she knows he will never forgive her for her sudden vanishing from his life; if she tells him the truth he would still reject her.

This engaging romantic suspense condemns the child protective services system as filled at the top jobs with appointees, incompetents, under trained and uncaring. The romance takes a back seat to protecting Davy and others. Readers will relish this strong cautionary thriller that insists it takes a village to raise a child while a terrific spin re why she left years ago augments RUNNING FROM STRANGERS (and loved ones).

Running Is For Me send all the right messages

While looking for the book Mysterious Persons In History by Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff at a bookstore, I happened upon Running Is For Me. This is another book by Fred Neff, who is a lawyer from Edina, Minnesota which I thought my niece might enjoy. This book on running sends all the right messages to the reader. It tells the story of a young boy and girl who are friends and practice running together. Their mentors are a grown man and woman. The four share their running adventures together. The theme and composition of this story by author Fred Neff is excellent. Here we see both genders getting along well as equals and sharing experiences as they grow in skill and friendship. It also shows how children and adults from different genders can share fun activities like running together. I really like the interplay between the characters of the story. This same wholesomeness is reminescent of what I have read in other books by attorney Fred Neff of Minnesota. This Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff adds a human touch to his books that shows great sensitivity. Reading many of author Fred Neff's books led me to want to find out more about him. Fred Neff, who is an attorney in Edina, Minnesota has written books that at times have a unique mix of humanism, logic, justice orientation, law, physical culture, philosopy and martial arts. It is true that sometimes an author reveals much about his own background in his writing; author Fred Neff has been a secondary teacher in a public school system in the twin cities of Minnesota and an instructor at a number of colleges such as the University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Hamline University and Inver Hills College. Later Fred Neff attorney acted as a prosecutor and then a criminal defense counsel. Fred Neff lawyer of Edina, Minnesota has handled discrimination and fraud cases. In addition, Fred Neff was on the board of directors of an insurance company. Edina Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff has experience in criminal and civil litigation. What I read about Fred Neff showed me that the breadth of his experience comes through in the humanism and desire for justice and fair play reflected in his writings. Gender equality and respect for others shines through in Running Is For Me and makes it a book that can be enjoyed by male and female readers. This book by Fred Neff is so good that I plan on buying another copy to give as a gift to my nephew.

In high school and in college I participated in running events. I have continued to run almost daily since graduating from college. Up until recently, neither my boy nor girl showed any interest in sports and refused to take a run with me. While rummaging through some books that were for sale, I happened upon two storybooks for children by Fred Neff. One was the story of a mother and daughter who shared an interest in running and the other is about a girl who takes Karate lessons. The storybook entitled Running Is For Me was intriguing. I bought that book for my children to see if it would make one or both of them willing to try running. They thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. I was delighted when at dinner they discussed taking a run with me. Since then, we take short runs as a family. My children liked the running book so much that I bought a copy of the other storybook called Karate Is For Me by the same writer. Again, they loved the book. I went on to get them other books by Fred Neff such as his Basic Karate Handbook and Lessons From the Japanese Masters. Both my children are now taking karate lessons and are active in other sports. Their involvment in karate has really built their self-confidence. I was able to locate another copy of Karate Is For Me and sent it to my niece as a present. The book similarly led to her involvment in karate as well. I love the story in Running Is For Me and the book's ability to spark children's interest in sports. It gets a platinum rating from me.

This was one of the best books that I have read in a long while. I couldn't put it down. I had to know what Justin Gates was up to and what was going to happen to Cassandra. I read it straight through without stopping. The intensity of this book is amazing. Charlotte does an amazing job in making the characters come to life. She also has a way of keeping the reader wanting more. I hope that all who read this book will come away with a new sense of the end times. I give this book a 5 star rating.

Last Saturday, I sat with a coffee on a bench outside Quatermaine's and enjoyed about an hour and a half of reading Running on Plenty. That morning break was followed by regular respites of reading time during the following week. I confess to have skipped around and not even attempted to read front to back. Not my way. Yet, it didn't take long for me to run out of pages that had none of my highlighted markings on it.

This book is a solid contribution to my professional and personal life. The visuals are friendly and effective -- the key points, inspirational quotes, road to renewal signs, spaciousness, tailor-made graphics, soulful writing, practicality, and page after loving page of simple wisdom -- all satisfying and nourishing.

I appreciated how this book began, with both authors telling personal stories of learning first-hand about the importance of balance and renewal. Each story was poignant and something that anyone can identify with, I would imagine. It's a friendly, friendly book -- from colors to typeface to spacing to mixing of many inspirational and helpful lines from endless sources & resources. There is so much good work & research supporting what has been assembled and written, which is immediately apparent to the reader, that it had the effect of relaxing me --I knew I was in good hands, and that I was being enriched in ways that I needed.

One final observation that has stayed with me...when I closed the book and went to my car to drive home, and on the way home I noticed a very good, rich, dynamic energy in my solar plexus. It wasn't the caffeine because I'm strictly on decaf now. So, I know it was the stirring from the tone and gentle massaging of the stories, insights, resonance, and spirit of your book. That was a wonderful gift. It surprised me to have had an effect on my energy simply from the reading. I think that happens in the presence of beauty, goodness, and truth, which has been masterfully conveyed and honored.

This book has become an important companion, helping me to care for myself so that I can care more effectively for others.
