My child just loves this book! There are just so many things to look at in each of the scenes. But I have to mention a correction, for it's so unfortunate. This wonderful book was actually illustrated by WILLABEL TONG (not Susie Lacome). The credit error wasn't caught by the publisher until after the book was printed and released. I feel terrible for Willabel, and hope the publisher is doing everything they can to correct this mishap in reprint.

The Big Shiny Sparkly First Words Book is a wonderful board book for toddlers, full of sparkly accents and hidden flaps to lift. My daughter really enjoyed this book, as well as it's companion book (The Big Shiny Sparkly Activity Book). You'll find scenes such as 'the petting zoo', 'at the playground', and 'at the pool', all full of items children commonly see on a daily basis.

I feel that this is not only great for younger children to teach them the names of objects, but also for older toddlers or preschoolers as a pre reading tool. My daughter (almost 4) enjoys copying her older brother, so she was tickled to pieces that she could actually 'read' the objects in this book!

action-packed thriller

With the combined efforts of the U.S. government and Columbian authorities, ruthless drug lord Pablo Escobar was hunted down and killed. Fingerprint, dental records and DNA proved that the body was Escobar. Eleven years later, an account that only Escobar had access to has withdrawals. Columbian Mario Rastano and his son Javier, druglords masquerading as responsible businessmen, are notified of the withdrawals because much of the money belongs to them; they realize Escobar is alive and want the code to the account.

The Rastanos kidnap the wife and daughter of Pablo's cousin Eugene Estobar. If Eugene hopes to see them alive again, he must bring the code to Javier in one week. He wins the help of the DEA, the CIA and a U.S. senator, all who have reasons to want Pablo dead. However, one team member is a mole reporting every move the group makes to Pablo. Eugene uses his family connections to look for his cousin, hoping one of them will know where he is and help him.

BLOODLINE is an action-packed thriller which gives readers a feel for what it is like living in a country where the drug lords control so much. This work starts faster than a racing car in a straightaway and never slows down so that readers feel they are part of the action. Eugene is a loving and devoted husband and father who will do whatever it takes to get his family back. He is also intelligent enough to put a mole in the Rastano estate in the hopes that he can free his family if he fails to find Pablo. Jeff Buick is a writer with a great future ahead of him.

Pablo Escobar was one of the biggest, most notorious, and violent drug
lords in the world. He reigned over the Columbian cocaine world with an
iron fist. Politicians and rivals who crossed him were killed by death squads. Pablo Escobar was believed to have been killed by Columbian army
and Delta Force soldiers. This idea was taken for fact for a number of years. A Swiss bank with a billion dollars(only Escobar has the account number)suddenly starts having large withdrawals. This activity is picked up by Mario and Javier Rastano. They decide to try to find Pablo Escobar
and get the account number. They kidnap the wife and daughter of Eugene
Escobar Pablo's cousin. Eugene is given two weeks to locate Pable and the account number or his family will be killed. The Rastanos were in the cocaine business with Pablo. Eugene seeks aid from the El Paso office of the DEA. This triggers a team of officers who had previously been in on the search for Pablo Escobar. Cathy Maxwell of the CIA,Alexander Landry of the DEA and Irwin Crandle a former DEA agent who is now a United States Senator. As they begin the search for Pablo it is discovered that
not all of them are honest. The trail for Pablo takes many unusual turns.
The question of Pablo's death is answered. This is a very entertaining book that has many twists and turns. Be sure to read this one.

Wisdom, Whimsy, and Intrigue

The Book of the Dragontooth is a beautifully illustrated riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. You can follow the path of the hero Magnalucius and visit the "Stations of the Dragontooth." If you are correct in your reasoning, you may even be able to aquire a token Dragontooth of your own. However, the journey is its own reward. The book has many layers of meanings, and you receive from it what you bring to it. It is a distillation in ink of a lifetime of experience and illumination. It is an Odyssey for the reader, though easy to read. The riddles are knit together with crow-quill calligraphy, careful sigils, and faithfully-rendered dragons, and they are woven as well as any cloister's famous tapestries. If you like dragons--or if you fight them--then this Book should be on your shelf or coffee table.

John Lithgow is a genius! I purchased this book along with his other children books and activity items, as well as his CDs. I love them all - great songs, educational for children to learn about instruments, love and lots and lots of fun to dance to!! I highly recommend his books and stuff.

Lithgow has done it again with another great book to keep you kids both entertained and creative. His rainy day tips range from origami folding to mud painting to "po-art-ry," and there are so many that even the most obstinately bored child will find something to stimulate her mind. The book comes with a kit that contains all the hard-to-find items required for the projects, so parents won't have to drive around and hunt them down. I would recommend this to any parent with kids who love to have fun.

Like visiting a world class Museum exhibit on the brain.
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-08
When I picked up this book I was floored as to the detail and the depth with which this book covers the subject. I felt like I had just entered the exhibit room of a world class museum. The book takes you on a tour of the brain the way a museum exhibit would. It has all the best features, including: being interactive; covering the history and developement of the field; and being up to date and accurate. The book is as much fun for the brain expert as well as the brain neophyte. It may be too detailed for children under 12 but with an adult helping I think children down to 7 or 8 can get alot out of this volume.

Great tool for psychology students

Brainpack, while not incredibly detailed, is a wonderful introduction to the structure and function of the brain and an enhancer of text material. Provides a great overview, is accurate, visually appealing and offers lots of fun with the activities. Students love it.

Great intro to Greek mythology, and LOTS of fun!!!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-21
Somewhere between fiction and anthropology, Start Exploring Bulfinch's Mythology recounts the famous Greek myths, with guides to pronunciation for the Gods' names. The stories are retold by Steven Zorn, who has shortened and simplified them for a younger audience. It is a great introduction to ancient Greek culture and religious legends, and will definitely help the student later, since literature and history allude to these famous tales. Alongside the stories are giant pictures to color in. The text and illustrations work together to make an awesome little book. I highly recommend it!

A Coloring Book That Is Educational AND Fun!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-17
Printed on high quality paper with a glossy, foldover velcro cover, this is not a cheap, crummy coloring book that you'd find in a supermarket or discount store.

Each beautifully drawn and nicely detailed picture is accompanied by a short story from mythology. Difficult words are glossed so that children can learn to pronounce the names of the characters and animals that they are coloring.

There are 16 stories and over fifty pictures to color as well as a 17 X 22 ready-to-color poster. The tales are adapted from Bulfinch's Mythology, a well-known classic retelling of the Greek tales. Included are: Hercules, the Odyssey, Daedalus and Icarus, Orpheus and Eurydice, Pygmalion, Phaethon, Medusa and Arachne, Cupid and Psyche, Atalanta, Baucis and Philemon, Pegasus and others. There are nice illustrations of many mythical beasts including the Hydra, the Cyclops, the Sirens and more.

When your child is finished coloring the pictures, the book is sturdy and high quality enough to take its place on his or her bookshelf to be enjoyed again and again.

An excellent introduction to the Greek myths for children.

Great hands on book for front line staff
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-22
Camp is for the Camper is the perfect personal assistant for camp counselors who want to learn more about the youth who come to camps, who want to organize themselves to be an effective leader at summer camp and who want to solve typical camper issues. The book fits easily into a backpack and can go almost everywhere the counselor goes.

Being a camp counselor is a tremendous experience, yet it can be stressful if they are not well prepared to deal with the many and varied behaviors of campers. Camp is for the Camper gives counselors quick, easy options to address many regular situations.

Catalina Island Camps bought a copy for each counselor and I can see how they will refer to it many times to help get ideas about how to best meet the needs of individual campers and their whole cabin group.

Often it hardest for a counselor to come ask a supervisor for help because they don't want to look as if they can't do their job. Of course, we train counselors to ask for help, but many still don't ask and since we know they want to do well, they will probably turn to this book for ideas and solutions.

The book reiterates many of the things we talk about in staff orientation, but we always wonder if counselors really took it to heart. For many counselors, reading a similiar message written by ACA professionals will give them a second chance to understand many critical issues to the success of our camp.

Along with the Camp is for the Camper Online course, this is a powerful training tool for every camp counselor in every camp across the country.

If you are a counselor, you will find it very useful. If you are a director, buy it for your staff!

Include this book with any Staff Manual

This book offers suggestions for almost any situation that may arise with a camper. It not only offers help with dealing with one, but how to prevent it in the first place. Another useful feature is the inclusion of a "psychological roadmap" of each age group, their needs, and how to help them get the most of the camp experience. It's a great supplement to any Staff Manual. Order a copy for each of your staff!
