This was read beautifully by Stedman Graham to a group session where I was in attendance. You could have heard a pin drop, and most were teary eyed. I purchased the book and gave it to my daughter, who was looking for direction. Great little inspirational book.

This Book,"The Race," is Near and Dear to My Heart. I received the Words as a Poem many years ago. Later a friend gave me The Book. I have given This Book as Gifts to others. It will always be a Favorite! I Highly Recommend,"The Race," to anyone who may need a word of encouragement. I was touched, moved, and inspired. It's a Great Book!!

This is an exciting book that young and old, Black and White, executive and mailroom, or Blue collar and white collar workers can truly enjoy. It's great for a visual age like ours as it's full of page after page of lovely pictures and easily written so that it's user friendly and bursting with intrigue for all ages.

"The Race" kind of grows on you as you read it again and again. It's a great night time story for adults and children. Or find yourself reading it as an eye opener at a Boardroom meeting with executives.

It get's to the heart of these questions.

Does it really matter how you start?
or Matter if you WIN?
Does it matter how you run?
Or matter if you End?

This story is full of hope,
for those who've missed their way.
Or those who've given up long before,
the dawn of a new day.

Fight on and never quit,
Wipe the tear drops from your face!
It matters not whether you win or lose,
but if you're in "The Race".
...byDeremiah

Dee Groberg & Mac Anderson deserve a lot of credit for putting together this most informative book. It deals with a story all of us can relate to about being involved in a Race. You can learn some very important lessons from this book full of paradox and awesome ambiguity. Adults loved it and I've personally read it to over 55 children I mentor who all throught it was the bomb! You'll find it very thought provoking and worthy of giving to countless friends as a gift...it's cheaper than a McDonald's or Starbucks gift card with a longer shelf life less calories and no aftertaste. But please don't believe a word I'm saying get it and read it for yourself! I liked it so I'm giving it away.

Is there anything else I can do for you?

This book is a collection of 110 color photographs that capture the drama, tension, and excitement of the most dangerous rodeo events - bareback, saddle bronc, and bull riding. Working out of his home base in Tucson, Arizona, photographer John Annerino has taken his camera behind the chutes, where he gets about as close as any observer can to the experience of riding roughstock.

This is a handsomely designed book, and the photographs are vividly reproduced, the images richly detailed, crisp and clear, often filling the pages. In a two-page spread, a cowboy flies to the ground from a bucking bull, while bull fighters in their clown costumes circle the animal, late afternoon sun casting long shadows and illuminating a cloud of dust kicked up around them. The gravel-strewn arena dirt is rough with the hoof marks of countless rides, and beyond a fence festooned with lite beer pennants, the stands are filled with hundreds of spectators, every face turned toward the action.

Annerino's camera reveals that in addition to the stereotypical cowboy, roughstock riders include Native Americans, African Americans, and women as well. And he writes a long essay at the beginning of the book tracing the arrival of the horse and horsemen at the start of the Spanish Conquest, the growth of the cattle industry and the evolution over centuries of the vaquero and in more recent times the emergence of the American cowboy. This is a fine book whose visual images offer an enthusiastic appreciation of the men and women who risk life and limb in rodeo's toughest events.

Roughstock:The Toughest Events in Rodeo joins a growing body of work by the photojournalist John Annerino that portrays the American western culture with a photographic passion and historical perspective. This book portrays "the cowboy" as a diverse and multiethnic persona not the traditional "Marboro Man" and conveys through his thoughtful and well researched essay that the traditional image was never in fact the case. Annerino's photographs show the action of the roughstock rodeo events and bring to life the men and women who participate in them. The images are full of action and the sense of danger and risks are coupled with an intimacy created by his use of light and in his portraits of the cowboys. There is a rhythm and dance to the photos that creates a timelessness to the action. The book is wonderfully edited and layed out and may be the author's finest work to date.

I loved it though even though I have been running for many years.
I really like the author and her writing. I also have her newest book The Secrets of Skinny Chicks which I enjoyed. I hope she comes out with more books in the future.

Karen, I received your book at the exact right moment. I admittedly don't really like running but I love races! Yes, I know this sounds rather bizarre but I love being involved in 5km, 10km, 1/2 marathons and even triathlons! In order to finish these I need to run to train!

Well, I am just getting over a broken foot (I can walk fast but not run much yet) and have a 1/2 marathon in a week. I got Karen's book in early December and it was the kick I needed. I have been training and will be finishing my race! It may be a lot slower than originally planned but I will do it!

I highly recommend this book for women = especially if you don't think you would like to run!

I found myself picking this book up again and again, reading another one of the many pieces of wisdom on one of the so many topics of running covered by this book. I have been running for over 10 years, from marathons to triathlons to weekend trail runs, and yet this book tells me things about running that I have either forgotten or had not yet learned. And the format of the book makes it easy to read a topic for a quick bit of insight or motivation. A good solid resource for runners from beginners to veterans!

Being A Small Buisness Owner myself, I am very impressed with people who still offer personal customer service. The next day the Owner from the book store E-mailed me a very personal e-mail saying that my book had been mailed. He insured me that if there was any problem make sure that I let him know, because the only way he would be happy was if I was satisfied. This book arrived in a timely matter and was it tact the way he said it would be. I Enjoyed the personal Customer Service via E-mail! Thanks! Your customer Service is the BEST AND GREAT PRODUCT!

If you haven't a clue about running a small business then this book is for you. For more advanced topics - look elsewhere. This book is good for what it is; a treatise on the ins and outs of managing the small enterprise. You'll find many helpful suggestions but much of the information is quite dated. Still there aren't very many books that tackle the unique problems of the one-person business. So for a unique perspective on your fledging operation, check it out.

There are many new small business books being published but this is truly one of the classics. Rather than emphasizing information about getting permits, writing a business plan, etc., Running A One Person Business discusses how to keep from being isolated, how to separate your work life from your personal life, how to go on vacation when you're self-employed, etc. I recommend it to my small business students. This is the first book that has pushed me to sing its praises in a review at Amazon. It has to be the unique combination of wonderful humor, insight and great storytelling. There a passages contained in this book that have the resonance of the best from Cormac McCarthy. I might be more affected by them due to my similiar upbringing as the author, but his description of the natural world around him, it's rythmes and rules are spot on and will ring true to anyone who has grown up abiding to the forces of nature. Well done!

A poignant memoir of experiencing Welsh sheep farming with two-mis-matched parents. Clare's description of his life on the farm, the people and his parents made me feel as though I were there with him. He has an excellent descriptive ability that draws one right into the story. Having been brought up in sheep country in West Texas, I related to some of his
experiences. Bettye Johnson, award-winning author, Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.

Exceptional. The author has such a masterful command of language that finishing the book hurts. Believe me, I have zip interest in sheep, and I was left gripping the book until done. The ending had me medicating myself with cookies--such a sharp use of English, when aimed toward the melancholy, cuts deep. I recommend oreos.

I took my time reading this book - and I have my favorite chapters - all in all it was a great book. There are very moving stories in it and a lot of humor too. As a cancer survivor myself, I was pleasantly surprised to find two chapters, two of the authors stories about cancer survivors. Both were uplifting and really encouraged me to start running again. And I enjoyed reading about George, his day to die?
I'm buying a few copies of this book to give as gifts. I hope to see more from this author.

I started reading the book over the weekend and found I just loved it! In fact, I was very sorry to come to the end of it. I have never read such a wonderful running book before. I have a shelf full of training books and how to books reagarding running, and I'm glad that I have them, but this book filled the WHY I run so well. And not only that, it opened the door to other runners and what has happened to them. It was as if there were 26 seperate books within this book. I just can not say enough about it. If you are looking for a great gift to give to someone who is a runner, or who is thinking about running, this is it. I am also ordering several for people that don't run. Grab a cup of coffee and get ready for a great weekend when you get this book.

This book was full of surprises! I thoughly enjoyed the refreshing style the writer has and I especially enjoyed all the wonderful people she wrote about. I have searched long and hard for true stories with "heart" that a runner like myself can enjoy and this was certainly it! I wish I could meet the author and shake her hand! I happen to be an animal lover too and it was a delight to read about Bubba and Elmer and a few other animals in a running book. I am telling everyone I know to get this book if they love running or inspirational stories. I will also mention it to non-runners that want to understand what running is really all about. I did a lot of laughing and also had a few tears roll down my face as I read each chapter. I had something to look forward to each day as each chapter is about a different person. I felt like I was running right along with a few of the runners she knows! Great book! Cheers!

Obviously written from personal experience, this book offers practical helps in running a political campaign from a distinctively Christian worldview. The author begins with God's initial call to get into the race for state rep and goes through all aspects from making a plan to making speeches, advertising, fundraising, getting the vote out, etc. Her strategy is based in integrity from start to finish.

I was introduced to Running God's Way after the race and found my thoughts and experiences in writing...the system is here...Step by step...17 chapters including a spiritual "spin". Questions I had asked throughout the process were answered. A worthwhile investment as I evaluate and prepare for the next run.

A must-read for aspiring politicians

This book offers a pragmatic approach to running a political campaign. It's oriented around the Christian worldview, and features an interesting take on the role of Absolom in the Bible.

The majority of the book is full of practical information covering how to present a credible image, how to put together a good campaign team, get your message out in person, print, radio, television, and the internet, fundraising, how to debate successfully, and a lot more.

The average aspiring politician might be inclined to discount this book's potential value, given its distinctly Christian slant. I think doing so would be a mistake, and a waste of a very useful resource. Remember, the author of this book is a successful politician, not a successful televangelist.

She ran clean campaigns, garnered the respect of all her peers (both Republican and Democrat) while in office, never once became involved in a scandal, and actually accomplished something useful. She managed to retire from the political arena with a totally spotless reputation and record. Any politician, Christian or not, would be foolish not to aspire to the same kind of success. To an aspiring politician, a book written by someone with a track record like Vicky Hartzlers is as indispensable as wings on an airplane.

Buy this book. Become the kind of politician this country needs.

In my work as a technical editor, I've had reason to review many of the other 800+-page books available on Excel 97. This one stands out, far and away, as the top reference available. It covers more than any of the other titles, and does so more thoroughly. For example, this is the only book I've found that covers creating custom numeric formats.

Review Date: 1998-07-01
This book covers all the features of EXCEL'97 in detail. It begins at the beginning (What is a toolbar?)and goes on to Visual Basic. The main drawback of a book of this type is that it concentrates on describing features one after the other. Like reading a dictionary, knowing a lot of words doesn't mean you are developing fluency.

An exception to this remark is the last chapter in the book "Sample Visual Basic Application". I'm a novice in this area, so experts might not agree with me. But I found this example really got my imagination. It describes a project that picks up data from an outside monitoring station on a regularly updated basis, puts it into EXCEL, generates a regularly updated chart, and makes a report using WORD. The entire sequence is automatic. This example puts EXCEL to work with other applications in a complex project showing me what is possible. Variations on this theme could be used for many other projects.

Everything needed and still easy to read.

Sometimes the Microsoft book is good and sometimes it isn't- this time it's the best. The book is a catalog of everything, with clear instructions. There's no need to read it cover to cover, though that will give you lots of ideas for what can be done. Just look in the index when you need something and flip back to the clear instructions and helpful illustrations. The book's pretty hefty, so the included book-on-CD is the best way to tote it around as a reference. Keep the CD at work for surreptitious reference and be the office Excel expert!

This love story brings to life the wonderfulness of Spain under the eyes of two different cultures. The author has demonstrated his experience in Spain as we can actually close our eyes and see southern Spain in his writing.

Efi is an independent lady who has a streak of determination unmatched. Her stern posture buckles under the admiration for a somewhat innocent, yet confident Peter. Together, they discover a passion under the Andalucian skies as they learn about the Andalucian culture and about the limits of true love. I can't wait for the second book to come out!!!!

On the train to Seville, Pete meets Efi and the two share an instant attraction. They begin to see one another and quickly fall in love, and with patience, tenderness and care, Peter helps Efi overcome her secret fears about men.

Peter is disappointed by the bullfight; he does not understand the cruelty exhibited toward the bulls, the way they are tortured before dying, and is repulsed. When he learns Efi's ranch provides bulls for the bullfights, he questions whether their love can survive this conflict. Efi feels this lifestyle is part of her heritage and does not understand Peter's feelings about the sport. Peter decides to return to Madrid, although Efi has hinted there may be a compromise. Will their love survive this rift?

Babb proves himself a wonderful storyteller with this tale of love, passionate romance, and conflict. He educates the reader about the sport of bullfighting in Spain, along with treasures of historical information, while weaving a spellbinding romantic story. The ending leaves the reader anxious to learn what happens between Peter and Efi. A compelling, thoroughly entertaining read.
