THis is a wonderful book. I knew Jami back in high school. We went to peer counseling camp together. She was just as she says, not very active. I am sure that today she is the same great spririted person I knew back when. She has survived and overcome.I read the book after seeing her on To Tell the Truth. I am proud to say that I know her. I truly recommend this book. It is quite a story of determination.

I was so shocked to know how she got both legs amputated. And I was so shocked to know that could happen to anybody. But her extraordinary strength of will to live gave me great courage to confront with my losses or unfortunates. While sensitively expressing a feminine part of her, she was also very competitive and eager to find her new life. Her optimism reminded me how profound our lives and possibilities are. This book will be a beautiful gift to share with all my precious friends. Thank you, Jami and Andrea.

Incredible personal narrative about what it's like to be average turned to handicapped turned to awesome source of power! I picked this book up in the library, reading back cover and was intrigued before looking at the picture on front cover and wondering, how? My brother is an amputee and I've witnessed first hand the strange way that people treat him, as an outsider from normal existance. Jami describes herself and the way others perceive her very clearly. This book is impossible to put down as you read about the terror of being stuck in a vehicle for 11 days and wondering why you haven't died yet. It is equally as difficult to put down as you read about Jami's determination to return to life as it was before the accident. This book is passionate, informed, relevant to today, romantic, inspirational, realistic, descriptive, adventurous, and well thought out. However, as a 7 months pregnant about to be first time mother, I do not recommend this book for readers under 18 years old.

As a single leg amputee I found it very easy to relate with a lot of the different trials and tribulations that Jami discussed in her inspirational story.I found on somedays not being able to put the book down just to see how she made it to the next step of her incredible journeys of adapting to her whole new world. It's also nice to know that no matter of ones differences from others, you are never alone.

They transport me into a place I'd like to live, a fantasy of design and genteel composure. The text is informative and the quality of photos is top notch. I highly recommend this book to folks who like Victorian design, both contemporary and traditional. You will feel the money was well spent!

I randomly found Outback and read it through in a very short period of time, loved it and then just as randomly found Walk About and have plowed through it. What a story. The characters and descriptions of the land are so vivid, and it was really cool that characters from Outback popped up in the midst of their own story to be "guest stars" in this story. Can't wait to buy the other Outback books, and I look forward to many years of re-reading them all.

My friend J.D. "Red" Brown gave me this book in 1992. Red was a Yellow Cab driver that I knew in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He really loved this book, and he gave it to me to read. He died in 1992, not too long after the book was released. So, every year, in honor of Red's memory - I re-read this book, and it is just as incredible and thrilling as the last. Normally, I'm not a big fan of what might be called "cowboy" or Western types of books - I tend to like Sword & Sorcery, Conan, or material written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, but I truly love this book.

The book is about a young boy who runs away, winds up living with the Aborigines for 11 years, and then returns to claim his fortune among the White people. It is one of the books that I have to read in one sitting - Once I start it, I simply don't want to put it down. It's 476 pages of pure enjoyment for me.

I would give this book 10 stars out of 5 if I could!

Want to learn more about the vast Australian wilderness? This is a great way to do it! Jeremy, grandson of the Kerricks who have built a prosperous sheep station, runs off on his own walkabout to find where he truly belongs. In so doing, you the reader learn about aboriginal life, dunnocks (wild cattle), how to find water where there seems to be none, etc.

I highly recommend this book.

After reading this book I am hooked on anything Aaron Fletcher writes. It kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end. It was exciting and tastefuly done. I have read 4 books of the outback series and can't wait for more. I love the history of the family the Aaron writes about. I could not put the book down until I had finished the whole book and then felt sad because I thought I would not find another as good. Then I read this author's next book in the series and each one was as great as the last. I would buy Aaron Fletcher's books any time, any where, I just love the way this author writes.

As a cancer survivor, this book is a perfect gift to a loved one who's just been diagnosed with any form of cancer or long-term illness. It reminds the patient that taking care of themselves, both spritually and physically, during the medical journey is so important. Nice illustrations with sparce words makes it a book that has great meaning with very little effort to read. I have this in my kitchen on a book stand, changing the pages frequently, to remind me that it's always good to take a few minutes to "smell the flowers" and I'm eight and a half years from my treatment. Perfect gift --- much better than flowers or candy as it lasts longer!

Delightfully presented, practical information

Review Date: 1998-04-26
Delightful is the best word to describe this charming little book. And it is a very strange word indeed to describe a book that deals with the problems of serious, chronic illness, but the combination of few words presented in lyrical style, along with beautiful, brightly-colored watercolor prints of flowers results in a delighful presentation of practical information on a very sensitive subject.
The two women responsible for the book - the author and the illustrator - have "been there, done that". Both are survivors of serious illness and have - along with their families - faced the questions that surround such illness, including the decision to use (or reject) life support and to move ahead with life despite some limitations following illness. They provide lots of practical, insightful information that can be useful to anyone - male or female - facing serious illness and/or surgery, but do so without losing sight of the inherent joy of life which, like the flowers that they use to illustrate emotions, seems to occasionally wilt as we face crisis situations.
The book is more than delightful; it is a charming, useful, practical guide to anyone undergoing a life crisis.
It seems strange to say that I enjoyed it - but I definitely did and plan on ordering additional copies to pass along to friends when they face similar situations. I highly recommend it!

As a disheartened cook myself, I feel I've found a kindred spirit in the creator of this Anti- Cook Book. What I have botched accidentally for years has proven to make an excellent spoof. I even tried 2 recipes, but no one noticed the difference. My favorite is the 3-unorthodox beans in the 3 bean salad. That is really using the old barbecued noodle to come up with that one! Reprint of Beating the Wild Tattoo.

This book has something for everyone. Tenderness, harshness, spankings, bondage, love, trust, virgin, master, multiple partners.

Perfect tale of the training of a young girl by a master who owns her from the first time she sees him. Takes Miss Julia from a wide eyed innocent virgin to the (almost) perfectly trained & content slave.

This is one book that does the S/D scene right + the bondage and sex scenes are hot and erotic.

A hard core romance story that deals with sex openly and hotly!

Even with their relationship being based on master/slave the main characters make you care about them and believe in the relationship they forge - from beginning to end.

A Must Read for anyone interested in erotica and Submissive women/dominating men.

OK the book rated to me as a five star special but only because it is written for the reader that enjoys the slow and methodical sex slave training type of erotica ....

The first half of the book was superb as Miss Julie, the small town girl hits the big city and then lands a SUPER job working directly 'under' the handsome Mr Calwell, the owner os some kind of successfull empire ....

The problem of course is that the author stuck to the master slave through most of the book, and really, after the girl just totally gives in to her fate in life what more can be said except the 'same old same old' .... even when we see some of the masters meet for a 'my slave is better than your slave' kind of thing I lost interest ...

As a Dad who is deeply committed to spending lots of time with my young kids, I am always concerned that I will run out of ideas that will be engaging to the kids as well as keeping me interested in doing things with them. This book answers that need perfectly. It's easy to use, well-organized, and incredibly practical. The ideas for science projects make me wish that someone had done these things with me when I was a kid...they are both kid-friendly and interesting to adults. I particularly liked the sections on cooking, as our family tries to involve everyone in food preparation and mealtimes. The recipes are great and make the tasks of food preparation feel like fun, not like chores. The style of writing is straightforward and the ideas presented are sensible. I hope that the authors write another book for parents of older children so I'll have them with me as my kids continue to grow.

I'm having a wonderful time using this book with my children! We've tried many of the activities and all have been great hits with our kids. I especially like that this book has sections with science and cooking. The ideas are imaginative and are things that kids actually enjoy doing. Most of the supplies for the activities are things I already had in the house, which saves time and energy and makes it easy to get going. I also find the suggestions scattered throughout the book incredibly helpful. The book is also charming, attractive, and well organized--and there's plenty to choose from. Most of all, we've had a lot of fun spending time together with this book! I highly recommend it.

The Parenting Center at the 92nd Street Y in New York City has long been at the forefront of child development. Our son has attended several of the classes offered by the Parenting Center, and they have been outstanding. This book brings the accumulated wisdom of that organization the bear on the question of what kinds of fun activities to pursue with kids. "Wonderplay, Too" picks up where "Wonderplay" leaves off, with hundreds of great ideas for games to play with 3- to 6-year olds. It's full of so many great ideas, any one of which can save your sanity on a rainy day. Highly recommended.

I got this set as a gift and I have been having fun with it ever since. My three English Springer Spaniels love home-made bones and I have to admit, I loving making them. I have a few dog treat books and each have their own unique appeal. This one is excellent for hard, crunchy biscuits. The Peanut Butter Bones (page 24) are the guy's all time favorite. I make them without the filling and have had to quadruple the recipe. Not just for my dogs but for their friends too. It has become a Saturday morning ritual they won't let me out of. This book has seriously spoiled them.
You can make your own "green breath freshening" type treats by adding 1/2 cup mint leaves to the "Spinach Bones" on page 35. Just lower the temperature to 200 and bake longer to retain the bright green color. I really like the heavy use of whole wheat flour since this makes a harder biscuit and is also so much healthier. The best thing about "You Bake 'Em" is how it follows a basic formula that once mastered, lets you create your own combinations. This was really a great gift!

I enjoy finding unique books and this one definitely falls under that category. In addition to the dog biscuit recipes the book includes five cookie cutters to cut your treats into the shape of a dog bone, heart, cat, fire hydrant, or doghouse. The obvious question to many readers is why bother to make your own dog biscuits when you can buy them so readily at the store? If you have to ask then you really don't understand the bond between many dog owners and their dog. For me it is because I can control the ingredients and I can create the "perfect" training snack. My dog is quite finicky about dog treats and doesn't like most of the store brands, so using them as a reward just doesn't work. On the other hand the recipe for Cheddar Liver in this book makes a perfect training reward that she will do almost anything to get. The book itself contains 24 different recipes for everything from basic cheese biscuits to liver and oat, liver leather, multigrain herb, grain-free and even carob biscuits. All are easy to make, although several do require a food processor to puree the ingredients. The attached box with the cutters in it is pretty flimsy and soon falls apart. However, the pages of the book are connected to the box via three metal split rings so the box can be removed, the cutters placed in a kitchen drawer or other appropriate place and the book placed on the bookshelf. This took a lot of thought to put the book together in this fashion so it can be easily converted to a standard book and was greatly appreciated on my part. You Bake `Em Dog Biscuits is highly recommended to dog lovers everywhere and a perfect gift for that friend who treats their dog as a part of the family.

My dogs and many neighborhood dogs have sampled several of these recipes. All biscuits were well received and I found them easy to make. The nice thing about these recipes is that you can make little changes or forget an ingredient and no one complains. The dogs love the treats, period! I plan to make the fishy treats again and cut smaller pieces that my cat can enjoy, too. I love this book and all the goodies that came with it, the cutters and the little gift bags are cute. My three labradors and I love this recipe book! One of my dogs has lots of allergy problems and has problems with many commercially available treats and foods, so the recipes in this book offer many options for my allergic dog. I've found the recipes easy to make and also very adaptable to substitutions in ingredients if needed. Everything is well organized and easy to read and understand in an attractive, appealing design. The inclusion of the fun dog-themed cookie cutters makes it even more enjoyable to make special treats for my dogs and to make creative gifts for our doggie friends. My dogs have loved every treat recipe we've tried, as have all the pooches who've gotten them as gifts. I've found this book to be a perfect and unique gift for dog loving friends. If you enjoy doing special things with and FOR your dogs, this "kit" will give you lots of hours of fun and instant popularity with the canines!

This book is refreshingly reminiscent of "The One Minute Manager." There are so few gems like this that simply and clearly give the important substance of a topic without wandering through needless arcane rhetoric that sounds intellectual but leaves the reader wondering what to do. Concrete information that every fundraiser needs to know - from creating a budget to finding and asking for money to appropriately recognizing donors is presented in a step-by-step, plain-spoken way. And it all makes immediate sense. Just to make sure the reader grasps and personalizes each concept, Dr. Goldstein makes every chapter interactive. Each principle is reinforced with a few questions for the reader, such as: "List 3-5 `sizzles' that would sell a potential donor," "write a snappy `p.s.' that prompts a potential donor to donate," "list 5 lawyers who specialize in wills and estates who might work with you to find major donors." As a brilliant and most useful caveat, Dr. Goldstein lists different resources specifically related to each principle that the reader can utilize for more information.

I recommend this book to those in traditional sales positions as well as fundraising because many of the principles - compelling sales letters, relationship-building, face-to-face sales calls, choosing the most likely leads, record keeping, effective public relations campaigns and web site development - obviously pertain to both fields. As a former College Vice President of Institutional Advancement, I sent many staff members to workshops that only seemed to promote the mystery of fundraising. This book was really all they needed.

I highly recommend "You Can't Go Wrong By Doing It Right" to anyone who wants to be a success in business, whether you have an established business or are starting a new one. In this age of high tech, there is one constant -- people. If you do not understand and know how to deal with people, all the high tech will not help. This book is a breath of fresh air for people like myself, who are tired of dealing with companies by voice mail and endless menus to make selections that only lead you further and further away from a real person. "You Can't Go Wrong By Doing It Right" is about real people, real situations and the kind of genuiness that keeps customers for life. As I read each of the 50 principles with each entertaining example, I found myself saying I would like to be treated that way both as an employee and a customer. Not only is the book a roadmap to success in business, it is beautifully written.

The title alone is worth the price of admission!

There are 50 invaluable principles for being successful in business in this book. The writing was succinct, powerful and to the point. Very easy and enjoyable reading. I loved learning about the history of Burdines and the Burdines' family. The founder of Burdines was inspiring having failed dramatically 2 times in his life then in his 50's beginning the mega successful "Sunshine Fashions" department store. I highly recommend this book. It should be in every business person's library.

My husband, who recently started his own business, and I loved reading this clever and complete presentation of sound business practices. As we all know, the best way to succeed is to emulate the successful. Dr. Goldstein has given us the history of a famous South Flordia family by outlining their strategies in an easy-to-follow guide. There is something for everyone here from the independent entrepreneur to the corporate executive. You really can't go wrong by doing it right - and by reading this book.

This book hits the bulls-eye!

This is a business book that sifts through the superfluous and presents an abundance of concise, effective and time-tested principals for doing business. It is destined to become a classic. "You can't go wrong by doing it right" speaks to the business novice as well as the seasoned executive; it should be required reading in the classroom and boardroom. Kudos to Dr. Goldstein for resurrecting the lost art of doing business the right way. Perhaps the title should be, "You can't go wrong by reading this book." I highly recommend this book without reservation.
