I acquired this book for my 2-year-old who is fascinated by bugs, especially butterflies. The text is coherent and written in a way a early reader would talk. Some of the Step 1 type books do not impress me, but this one does.

This is a great book for young readers who are just connecting the idea of words having meaning. They are predictable & have good picture context clues. My son loves it & recognized the author from another favorite bedtime story.

This book is a great first book. In fact, it is the first book my son read. *sniff* I'm so proud. :-)

The sentences are short and the pictures hint at what the words may be. I would recommend this to all parents who are helping their children learn to read.

This is a great book. The book is easy to read and has all the information on Monte from the day he was born all the way to his death. It tells us how Monte gave his life to the Armenian nation. After reading the book I sent a thank you later to his brother for writing the book. This is a must read for anybody who is intereted in Armenian Heroes.

Honest, Moving and Introspective

The above title are three words that come to mind after reading My Brother's Road. Markar Melkonian puts a human face on an "American-Armenian" legend, noting not only his brother's amazing accomplishments, but also his failings. Never-the-less, this book confirmed the fact that Monte Melkonian deserves the title of a national hero. His selfless ways and unstoppable drive for a cause bigger than himself are deliniated in the context of historical events. In short, one cannot help but admire Monte Melkonian while reading this book.
I thank Makar Melkonian for producing this fitting text about his brother, a revered son of Armenia.

What a great man, who sacrificed so much for his people

I really dont know what else to say. This book details his constant resolve to better the Armenian cause. Though it involves conflicts with other Armenians, his focus is for the Armenian nation (past, during the cold war, present, and future).
He literally gave his life for the Armenian people. Though drawn into political conflicts, he was clearly an apolitical nationalist, and a true hero. May God bless his memory, and his brother, who wrote this book.
I thank Monte and Markar for teaching me so much about Armenian history. Like you, Monte, I am reborn and my spirit will rise up like a phoenix. I am more an Armenian, having learned of your life. You gave yourself for (our) my future, and I will always honor you for it.

It's never as simple as you've been taught

In reading My Brother's Road, one can't help being made aware of the inevitable reciprocity of history. Monte, and others like him, were modern-day Maccabees, that cultural paradox of virtue and brutality, ideological fervor and compassion. To his added credit, Markar does not shy away from discussing the hard realities of the NKR conflict. In the end, that kind of honesty is the least his brother would have required.

A MUST READ!

Must admit that I am probably biased since my daughter,Dina Dembicki, was involved in the "making" of this beautiful tribute to the drivers and their "kids". Having seen what it takes to put it together makes me appreciate it all the more. Dina spent 12 to 18 hours a day doing the layout and putting the book together. As the Design and Print Production, Graphic Arts person, she spent every moment loving this book. Ryan and Krissie Newman are not only wonderful human beings and loving "pet parents" they are generous with their time and aid for all living animals. The Ryan Newman Foundation is responsible for the Catawba County Humane Society's new housing facility for which this book donated all net proceeds to the new building construction. These are the kind of folks who can be assured to make it to Heaven!! This book is now in it's 2nd printing thanks to all animal and NASCAR lovers who bought one. My thanks to them and everyone else responsible for making this book such an astounding success. By the way, Krissie is even prettier than her photo!

Redemption Road is a beautifully written novel. The colorful cast of characters are real and funny and charmed with flaws. I was hooked by the first paragraph. As the paragraphs turned into pages, I loved the delightful anecdotes and morsels of truth sprinkled throughout the story-line. It has been awhile since I have read a book that has inspired me to litter it with highlighted passages to re-visit time after time.

I hope to read more of your books. Keep up the great writing!!

If only I could use words in this review the way that Michael J. Griffin does throughout this entire book. Every word, sentence, and chapter are sewn together so beautifully to bring each reader into the story as if he were there himself. I went on vacation with my husband and could not put the book down!! (My husband, by the way, was not too thrilled about that!) Because I cannot give a review even worth the review this book deserves, I just beg to you to please read it and you will also understand where I come from! I haven't read a book like this in years. Reading is like exercising to me: Once I get started, it has to REALLY feel good to keep me going. Trust me, this is one of those books. You won't be able to stop. Thank you, Michael J. Griffin. And I want to know, when is your next novel due? I will be one of the first to buy it!

A Fun Look Back

Review Date: 2008-05-04
I just recently drove on Route 66, through New Mexico and Arizona. When I got home I reread ROUTE 66: THE TELEVISION SERIES 1960-1964. I enjoyed the book even more the second time! It is a fun look back for me and the other "baby boomer" fans at the television series ROUTE 66. The show featured excellent writing, acting and it was filmed against the backdrop of America. It was a show about the varied people of our country and that is what made the series so unique. Buz Murdock (George Maharis) and Tod Stiles (Martin Milner) were handsome, appealing characters who were concerned and caring men. The Corvette represented a "sense of independence and a spirit of adventure."

Jim Rosin's book contains many interviews with the two stars - Maharis and Milner, guest stars Anne Francis, Nehemiah Pursoff and Nancy Malone, Media Historian Mark Alvey, Production Executive Sam Manners, and Directors Arthus Hiller, James Sheldon and Alvin Ganzer. Their comments are smoothly mixed with text information. I especially enjoyed the photographs and behind-the-scene snapshots.

Rosin certainly did his homework by including a Biography section of all the actors, writers, directors, and production staff highlighted in the text. Some of the other books I have seen on vintage television series may have been a bit more in-depth, but I like the simplicity of this book. Enjoy the ride with Tod and Buz!

Wow...talk about your trip down memory lane.
Even if you don't own a Corvette you can reminisce about your favorite TV Series, Route 66 with Jimmy Rosin's new book. Tod and Buz didn't need cash to have a great experience and neither do you when you read this well organized, artfully crafted book. A treasure trove of information for Route 66 fans all over the world. TV at its best and reading at its bestest!

A Nice Companion Book to the DVD

I enjoyed reading Route 66: The Television Series 1960-64 by James Rosin and found it to be a nice companion book to the recent DVD release.

It is full of interesting commentary from series stars Milner and Maharis plus others, which include directors, producers and several guest stars. It also contains lots of promotion and still photos that reproduce nicely, and a good bio section at the back that includes all the people associated with the show that contributed to the book. The plot summaries for all 116 episodes are one page, and fairly concise and to the point. It looks like some were written by Rosin and some were drawn from studio press releases when he might not have been unable to see the individual show. I noticed that in some of those, there were minor plot details that differed from the completed show I watched. Maybe they were revised during filming or left on the cutting room floor, but in no way did they detract from his overall summation and my understanding of the storyline (and again they seemed minor). While there may be some who would prefer more analysis and review of each episode, I actually prefer to read the story outlines and decide which ones I would like to watch and get into. This book allows the reader to do that. It's an easy read and a nice little book for your coffee table.

Long overdue, but this particular effort leaves much to be desired

It is indeed high past time that "Route 66", possibly the finest drama ever produced for the medium of television, had a book devoted to it just as many other classic television series have had. However, while author James Rosin has finally filled that long-empty niche, his effort somewhat falls short of what one might have hoped for.
While Rosin does give us an excellent introductury essay, full of useful background information and utilizing a plethora of quotes from a variety of sources, this term-paper length chapter (along with a very nice photo section) pretty much consists of the sum and parcel of the entire book. There is an epsiode guide with detailed plot summaries for all 116 episodes, but Rosin appears to have copied this verbatim from Columbia/Screen Gems promitional material. Since those original materials were based on shooting scripts and story outlines and not on the actual on-screen results, many contain inaccurate plot details and plot elements unpresent in the actual episode. Rosin acknowledges this when he gives notice ""A conscientious effort was made to ensure that each episode summary was as accurate as possible. However, in some instances, minor plot details and descriptions may have been revised that I was unaware of." Huh? Has Rosin seen all the episodes or not? One would expect an author writing an in-depth study of a television series to do the following: (1) Attentively watch each individual episode of that series, (2) Write their own episode summaries for the book and not just copy them from pre-extant sources, and (3) provide their own observations and critical commentaries on each individual episode. This is what good televsion scholars such as Marc Scott Zicree, Ed Robertson and John Kenneth Muir do with their respective highly-polished and thorough books on various television series. Rosin's book comes out looking very deficient when compared with one of those three authors.
I don't wish to be to terribly negative as I am excited that there is ANY book out there devoted exclusively to this marvelous and unjustly-neglected program. However, I felt it incumbent upon me to point out the relative lack of substance it contains. I've read an as yet unpublished manuscript of a book on the series by another author, and that one does a much better job of analyzing each individual epsiode and the cultural impact of the series as a whole. This particular Route 66 fan can't help but wish that that one had been the manuscript issued between the professionally printed covers instead.

I love this book! Robin Jeep and Dr. Richard Couey have teamed up to create a healthy nutrition plan that will work for everyone who's serious about reclaiming optimal health--physically, mentally and spiritually.

My husband and I have now been following this nutrient-dense diet plan for over 30 days. We both feel great and have lost weight. My husband's chronic acid-reflux is now history and the "brain-fog" has cleared away completely for both of us. Robin's creative recipes make this lifestyle eating plan interesting and delicious (no deprived feelings whatsoever).
It just feels so good to know my cells are happy to receive the nutrients they need to thrive and keep me healthy.

Thanks Robin...now I'll be looking for you to publish a full cookbook soon! God Bless You.

Who says good health can't be fun or easy? Robin Jeep's book lets it be both. Her information is practical and her recipes are delicious. The whole book feels as appealing as the food is for body and soul. Like anything new, it'll take a little practice to make this way of eating a habit, but it's worth it. I like feeling the extra energy available to me for other things now. This is important to me because I'm committed to living my life with clarity, focus, ease, and grace.

This book has changed our lives. My husband and I have never felt better in our lives. This plan is easy to follow and Robin's receipes are fantastic and you are never hungry. We wanted to lose weight and lower our cholosterol and triglycerides and we have done just that. We were fortunate to be able to take Robin's 7 week class which was wonderful and made us accountable to this way of eating to achieve optimum health. We both never realized that we were not feeling good and now we have more energy and clarity and we have lost weight too. My husband has 20 pounds and I have lost 11 pounds and feel great. We don't want to end up being a cancer statistic and we have learned the science behind eating a whole and organic food plan. Dr. Couey and his input are fantastic and the results of this plan are wonderful. Our medical doctors are amazed. You will not be disappointed with this book, it is amazing.

The lifestyle changes that are recommended provide both weight loss and improved health. When I started the class and purchased the book, I was not interested in weight loss, but had been sick for about a year. I highly recommend the guide and the class. Additionally, the book includes delicious, world-class recipes, a section on how to arrange your kitchen, tips on shopping for healthy foods, and much more. For those interested in weight loss, ideal weight can be achieved as a natural progression following this guide. If you are fortunate enough to have access to the class, don't miss it!

Mr. Alton does a commendable job of combining Eastern and Western medicinal philosophies, with easy-to-understand chapters and diagrams. I've been fortunate to live in Charlottesville and study with Mr. Alton. This book gives everyone not located in the Charlottesville area the opportunity to take advantage of "Unified Fitness". The system is easy to follow and well laid out in the book. The ultimate result does depend on the individual. "Unified Fitness" has to be incorporated into your life to obtain the most benefit.

"Unified Fitness" combines mind and body exercises that really work. Alton also touches on diet and coping with stress in the modern world in addition to examining the micro-biology of his program's effects. Mr. Alton has an extensive background in Qigong, Martial Arts, and Eastern/Western medicine. For someone who is looking for peace of mind and body, I couldn't recommend a better book for your overall health.

Pretty good stretching recommendations
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-13
I have read all the gushing glowing reviews and thought I would add my 2 cents, as a nonchalant reader of this book. If you take the "35 days" in the title seriously, you should be prepared to spend most of your waking hours with this book during those days.

I have been less dedicated, and more attached to my normal life habits, and therefore haven't persued the whole program. I'm also not sick, just slightly out of shape. I used to practice tai chi daily for several years, but have fallen out of practice.

That being said, I have benefited from the stretching routine that John recommends in the beginning of the book. I haven't ever seen any other regimented stretching program which does a good job for the shoulders and trunk of the body. There are also a lot of good ideas for stretching the legs and lower back. So I have found a lot of value from just the first ten pages of the book.

Be careful. Anybody reading this book should trust their own body before trusting John's authoritative writing style. If you follow his suggestions mindlessly, you will probably hurt yourself.

I deducted a star from the rating because of the poor quality of the binding of my copy of the book. Pages were falling out. I had to take it to a print shop and get it rebound with a spiral. Now it is much easier to lay it flat and refer to it while stretching.

Finally, a mind-body program with tangible results!

Unified Fitness is awesome! As a high stress, type "A" person, I've tried every mind-body practice out there: biofeedback, mindfulness-based meditation, yoga, etc. Unified Fitness is the only practice that has provided tangible results and real, lasting benefits. By combining traditional exercise with mind-body techniques that actually work, John Alton has created a program that resonates with those of us who are not completely comfortable with many of the new age or purely spirituality-based practices that one typically finds. It takes some effort and time, but the results are nothing short of astounding! Buy it, read it, practice it and you just might change your life.

John Alton's Unified Fitness presents a powerful new practical vision of traditional Asian healing and contemplative practices. Working with an intimate knowledge of traditional Chinese practices, he has reformulated the entire system from the ground up based on its core principles to create a new process designed to suit contemporary lifestyles and realities. The book cuts through the difficulties of traditional presentations, as well as the superficiality of so many contemporary "manuals", to achieve a rare and powerful synthesis with potent results for personal physical and mental health. Despite being an associate Professor at the University of Virginia in Tibetan Buddhist Studies specializing in contemplative systems with many years of research in Tibet itself, I have seen few contemporary models so deeply based in Asian healing-contemplative traditions, and yet so precisely and powerfully reorganized for a contemporary audience. I highly recommend Unified Fitness.

I searched for hours for a coffee table book for a Christmas gift for a close friend who lives in TN but is from New Orleans. She told me she stayed up all night looking at it. When I gave it to her, she pointed out everything from local businesses to personal landmarks. More importantly, the pictures reflected a pre-Katrina city. They captured sites that she remembered but that don't look that way anymore. I would recommend this book for anyone whose heart is in New Orleans.

This is a gorgeous book full of information and amazing photos of some of the most prominent plantations that are on River Road between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Some of the most amazing photos were from plantations that have all but been destroyed. I'd be really interested to see an updated version as some of these homes have been completely transformed since these photos were taken. Most noteably would be Houmas House and Laura which both in this book are nothing like their now restored selves. Regardless, this book is an excellent addition to anyone's plantation library or coffee table!

I was born and raised on the River Road. I have grown up and almost all of the wonders in this book. Nothing comes close to the accuracy and beauty captured in these photos. I would HIGHLY reccomend this book to anyone that would want to know or learn about the grand homes along the Mississippi and South Louisiana. This book is second to none in my rating. A MUST HAVE and a MUST OWN for EVERYONE!

Thoroughly enjoyable!

This is a fantastic coffe table book. This book is all about the pictures, with interesting text to accompany each image. Pictures are loveley, colour and large. If you are considering buying a copy without the dustjacket- go for it, as the cover image is on the underneath as well.
A great addition to any bookshelf or coffee table, my family have all had a look!

A Promise Regarding Walking with God

I loved this book but we must also consider that the promises of walking with God have specific unpopular truths. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12

For a review of this book we must also look to the category of "unpopular" promises. This promise guarantees persecution for serious believers in Jesus Christ. In a church world where many treasure comfort and popularity, this promise is not well-received.

This promise is given to those who want to live a life of godliness: "who desire to live godly." Godliness is the will of the Lord for His people. "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness" (1 Timothy 6:11). Our Lord Himself declared that there is great blessing in having a passion for righteous living. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness" (Matthew 5:6a). The blessing is God's pledge to satisfy that heart which yearns for righteousness. "For they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6b).

Yet, we have seen that fullness of righteousness is not all that is promised to those who want to walk in godliness. Persecution is also promised. "Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution." Notice the comprehensive, inescapable dimension of this promise. "All who desire to live godly...will suffer persecution." There are no exceptions. There are no exemptions.
All who sincerely desire to follow the Lord Jesus Christ will experience the consequences that He met, as He walked in righteousness. "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you" (John 15:20). Jesus was not universally hailed for His righteous path. He was opposed, mocked, conspired against, and betrayed. We need not be startled when measures of similar persecutions befall us.

Of course, this promise of persecution is not given to discourage us from pressing on down the path of godliness. Rather, it is offered to prepare us for the difficulties that are guaranteed as we seek to grow in Christlikeness. The Lord even adds gracious encouragements to righteousness, so we will be strengthened to pursue His holy will in this matter. "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:10). Persecutions can remind us that we are headed for heaven. Persecutions can bring us heavenly measures of sustaining grace along the way.

This book is a practical guide to living through suffering. The first chapter deals with looking at your situation to be clear on "who's fault is it?" Did you make choices that landed you here; was it someone else's fault; or was it nobody's fault -- just life as it happened. He doesn't bog you down in that -- he just wants you to look at how you got to this point so that you can use those lessons and move forward, even if it's still on that road you didn't want to travel. I find that there is a lot in common here with the Zen teachings that it's not the suffering that causes our problems, it's trying to avoid those sufferings.

I, too, am going through a separation now and while I was the one who packed up and left, this road certainly isn't the one I saw myself taking when I took wedding vows over 15 years ago. I can face that and move forward and this book has practical steps of how to get there.

The balance of personal stories with the Biblical background of the children of Israel seems just right. I can find myself in the stories and then see how my struggles are thousands of years old and common to humans.

GREAT BOOK -- would recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in a place they didn't want to be, can't get out of or want to walk through in a way that glorifies God.

I read Walking with God on the road you never wanted to travel some months back and have kept it out because I refer to sections that I've highlighted when I need help with my impending divorce.

I found Mark's words and passages a source of healing and comfort. I hope that I can look back on my experience and email Mark with a success story someday. If you are currently dealing with a huge "why did this happen to me" situation this book is the one to read and re-read because of the many examples, biblical passages, and words of encouragement are well worth the book's price.

WOW! What an amazing book! It make me giggle at times and other times I was reaching for the Kleenex box! I can't wait for Rain City Cats! I now understand why my cats did the crazy things they did. Kiska explains really well the ups and downs of life through her eyes. It is a great book for both kids and adults. And check out those pictures! Great job Naomi with the pictures. They really capture those precocious kitties! Kiska, thanks for your contribution to kid's literature. Meow!

I really liked the book. I plan on buying the second one. Kiska reminded me so much of my cat cuddles. my cat does all those things to his food if he doesn't like it. I also think Canica became a movie star cat. Because all cats have their own little thing that they do, in your case, Canica lifted his Paw. My cat will stick his tounge out when he is happy. Thank you for coming to my school. from, Robbie

I liked the book a lot, My favorite part was the last chapter. Even though we don't have a cat, Kiska reminded me of one of my neighbor's cats that looks almost exactly like her. I hope to see what happens to Kiska in her next book, and I plan on buying it too. Thanks for coming to our school! Angeline
