Most of us parents are not taught how to have open and healthy conversations with kids about sex and the myriad of topics associated with it. I found the author's expertise and common sense approach a terrific resource, and I wish I had read it a long time ago .. like when my kids were still in grade school. I highly recommend it.

This book is the best resource for teaching math in k - 6th grades. This book by Dinah Zike uses foldables to teach common math concepts. A foldable is a 3-D, student constructed, interactive graphic organizer that is based on a skill. When students construct the foldable they are learning the concept at the same time. This is perfect for active learning!

Breaking the Circle of One expands the traditional meaning of mentorship in education. From its beginning as a writing circle of graduate students and professors emerged a group that was redefined by the mentoring and support the members provided to one another. This book is a rich and diverse compilation of experiences that evolved as a continuing strand of mentorship by those students who participated the Circle. The stories in this book illustrate that mentoring can truly be established as a way of life, especially for those of us who are in the education profession.

After carefully digesting Buddy Reading and having implemented the program for four years, I truly believe that the suggestions and techniques that the authors had to offer helped to develop fluency, intonation, critical thinking, and a love for reading! There are many articles on the benefits of buddy reading and this book offers an excellent guide on how to successfully implement one. There are lessons for the teacher of older buddies as well as lessons for the teacher of the younger buddies. I highly recommend this book!

My 6 and 7-year-old sons love cars and trucks and books about them. This is the first book I've seen that has both a story and step-by-step instructions for drawing cars and trucks. Instructions are simple enough for young kids, yet they yield a cute drawing at the end. I recommend this book!

This a great book to learn about the Social Justice of the Catholic faith. It is well written.

This book is extremely useful for classroom teachers and homeschooling families alike. It slowly and thoroughly works through the progression of skills from first using clay to creating finished sculpture. The chapters include information for teaching the skills, multiple examples of professional artwork that can be studied to view the technique at hand, tons of pictures of student work with the age of the student identified (very helpful for knowing how to set your expectations at a realistic level) and every chapter includes free exploration ideas as well as specific exercises.

I have taken classes with Cathy Topal; she teaches in the Education department at Smith College, helping prospective teachers learn how to teach art. The care and attention she has taken to laying out the exercises in this book clearly reflect this experience - she can think both like an experienced teacher of art and like a mentor to new teachers. This book is a valuable purchase for any art teacher or homeschool family and can be used with students from age 4 to high school level. It will grow with your child and can be used over and over to explore topics in more depth in subsequent years. I give it my very highest recommendation.

This book is filled with quality hints and tips on how to organize a choral program at school! For the beginning teacher, it is an essential guide to help them understand what is needed to be a successful choral teacher and run a successful program at school, or as an extracurricular activity. Adversely, I find the book focuses on after-school choirs too much, but if this is what you need information on, you have a great book. The book has some very interesting suggestions on discipline within the choral group. There are also excellent musical suggestions and an excellent section on how to present choral pieces to a variety of group levels from beginner to advanced.

This is a well done cartooning book. As an amatuer with only a hint of talent at drawing, I gained a great deal fromt this book. It helps you to see the simple shapes that most cartoons start from and how to build upon it. It is more geared toward the teen audience, but adults and even young children could gain much from it. The directions are simple to follow and there are tons of examples and illustrations. Even a non-artist like me was able to turn out some impressive cartoons. This would be a great book for anyone interested in drawing and/or cartooning.

The Civil War is a period of history that many students arefascinated in. This book has pages of connons, soldiers, horses,towers, architecture, ships, artillery, trains and everything else that played a part in this time period. It is easy and well explained and gives one the confidence to grab pencil, paper and supplies and begin! A lovely gift and a must for classrooms!
