This book is absolutely wonderful for preschool - 6th grade children. The songs and activities are easy for the teacher and the student to learn.

This Eyeball Animation Drawing Book: People Edition is a barrel of fun! Who knew my eleven year old daughter could draw so well if she didn't have to worry about drawing eyes?? And the fact that the eyeballs roll up just enough for that'whatevah' look when you hold the book upright just adds to the fun. When the book is laying flat, the eyes are looking straight ahead. It has plenty of blank pages for drawing, and between the pages, attached to the spiral is a two inch strip with three faces you could draw if you didn't have one in mind. Our whole family loves this book. I'd recommend it to anyone for any age-we got one for my older daughter's twenty-two year old boyfriend, and he loves it, too!

Promoting that each teenager's learning should be customized to fit their needs and personalities, "Personalizing the High School Experience" is a deftly written handbook for educators, and a must for community library education collections.

Excellent book for student pilots and their instructors, or for experienced pilots who do not fly for a living - it is good to review the basics from time to time.

This book does a good job of detailing all the technical details of why an airplane has to work the way it does. It tells the reader about the environment that the aircraft operates in, and explains how interactions with that environment affect the flying characteristics of the machine.

As a 6th and 7th grade teacher of science, this is a wonderful program to slide Force, Energy and Motion concepts past my students. They are positively exuberant everytime they get to play Pinball science. They must know the answers to the questions to build all items needed to escape a village and then an island and then a place in space. If they are weak on concepts there is a section to research the answer to any question. Friction, force, momentum etc. . . are all covered. We got our PTA and some teachers to help us buy 15 copies. We pair the students in class to play. Students have never loved science so much. They think "Learning is cool!".

Dr. Berry's book on plainsong is one of the best I have encountered. For beginners and others seeking a concise and simple explanation of the chant, this is for you. Music students will want Willi Apels classic, analytical work, but for the casual reader, this book will be all they need. Berry's text is a delight. I would highly recommend this title.

Doug Goodkin has written an inspiring Orff Schulwerk methodolgy book based on 27 years of personal experience sprinkled with solid historical and philosophical facts in an inspiring and reader-friendly style.

I have read a number of books about the Reggio approach to early childhood education, and I am finding that this one offers the most practical, honest, detailed information yet. (It would not necessarily be the book I recommend to read first, but given the astute summary of the author's actual time observing in the classrooms of Reggio Emilia, Italy, it would be right up there.)
The author first went to Reggio in the 1980's, I believe, well before most educators were aware of the schools there, and back when visitors could actually see the classrooms in action. She is able to offer first hand anecdotes and have direct contact with many of the names I only read about in books.
The main premise of the book is how this one school adapts practices of Reggio in an urban environment. It starts with a brief summary of the political and educational climate of Washington DC and the US at the time (late 80's, early 90'). As I said, there is a great summary of the schools in Reggio first.
The book then goes on in subsequent chapters to describe their process of adopting and adapting the Reggio Emilia approach.
My only critique is not of the book itself, but of the fact that as a teacher currently, most of us do not have the space or money do "makeover' a school's environment as thoroughly as this school did, nor do we have access to Amelia Gambetti as a live-in mentor for 9 months. HOWEVER, nowadays, there is much more access to information about Reggio Emilia and many other 'experts' to turn to.

This is a great book about being at the forefront of a movement for better educational places for our youngest children.

Censorship is the latest rage amongst American hipsters. It's even starting to catch on with puerile twenty-something "students" from Nevada and it's proving to be quite infectious for giant multi-national book sellers...and let's face it, that's where we need it!
