I enjoy books about the Civil War. This was a great way to learn about the war from the people who were watching it. Nowdays, we have wars such as the Gulf War on television. Here were the folks who HAD to be your eyes and ears. This would be a great book to have high school classes read as a comparison to seeing a film about Vietnam or Desert Storm, just to see the contrasts. History classes in American History and Journalism would also benefit. For the general public, unless you are interested in these topics, it is a lot of detail to absorb.

From the Kansas City Star Magazine, (October 10, 1999) "The love-hate relationship between the newspapers and the men who fought in the Civil War is just one of the subjects of Brayton Harris' Blue & Gray in Black & White: Newspapers in the Civil War . . . [In an interview, Harris said] "Before the Civil War, the newspapers in the United States were primarily opinion sheets for their editors. By the end of the war, they had actually become newspapers in the way we know them today. . . .One thing that came through is that nothing really has changed except technology . . . the media works the same way today that they did in 1860. James Herriot writes beautiful multi-layered stories which really engage the reader, and in this case the audience. This is one of his children's storys, which despite the shortness, is beautifully written.

As you may know, James Herriot was a country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the North of England in the middle of the 20th century. His storys of eccentric families, and farmers have sold in the millions. His series of children's stories are equally rich and funny. This is the story of Bonny the clydesdale, and her owner. Herriot has been called out to Dale Close farm where the farmer has a problem with one of his horses. They go for a long and arduous walk to visit the horses, which Herriot finds difficult, but the farmer seems completely untired by. The horses are old, but in a beautiful valley, where the farmer has retired them. To Herriot's amazement, the farmer does the walk every day. They have been retired for 12 years, but because they worked so hard to help him establish the farm, he keeps them there ni retirement. Herriot suggests the farmer enters one of the horses in the Darrowby Fair that coming Saturday in the Pets class as they are clearly kept as pets now. The farmer sounds discouraging, but then, the following saturday he turns up at the fair......

This is a wonderful story and I guarantee it will move your heart to read it. The detail is extraodinary and evocative, and I am sometimes moved to tears by it when I read it.

The illustrations are pretty good - they could be richer, but overall, I just think this story is 110%. Something to really enjoy.

My daughter brought this book home from her school library - We read it together. Christmas time I always purchase a "favorite" book for her & her brother - this one will fits the bill nicely!!

This is an absolutely delightful story. One of the authors best. This book is truly appropriate for all ages. Really little ones will love the pictures and older children will warm to the story. Any adult will enjoy reading this to the kids over and over.

Bowman's Store - the rememberances, of today and yesterday in an Abenaki life. The discovery of whispers in the blood and the path of discovery in the recovery and claiming of heritage. Circles are begun, completed, and heralded. This story will echo, for anyone who remembers family and celebrates their own. For Jr. High School readers and up. Bruchac does a wonderful job of mixing Indian tales and legends with the stories of his life. I found myself asking questions about events in one chapter, only to have them answered in a later chapter. Bruchac gives you enough detail to put you in the story, but doesn't inundate you with it. I hope someday to attend a storytelling festival where he is featured. His ease with the language and his experiences in life make Bruchac a fabulous storyteller. Thank you for sharing your memories and those of a great people.

Joseph Bruchac lived through a childhood few would envy. His parents used him as a weapon in their own endless battle. However, he lived with his warm and loving grandparents, and this story retells his life with them. His grandfather, the "Bowman" who owned the store, claimed to be "French Canadian" to his Indian-hating neighbors. about the industry. Tom ZEN-ner is the master of the television world! This book helped me in forming my career in so many ways. From the ins and outs of a "regular" television station and the handling of office politics. My experiences have only been enhanced from page one to the end.I'm not just a reporter. I play one on television! Thanks Tom for the insight!

I'm a college student and wanted to get into broadcasting but didn't know exactally how. This book not only pointed me in the right direction, but I believe it helped me land my fist on-air job. (in a top 20 market)... I just want to thank both of the writers for all the information and knowledge!!!!

This book reads like a personal conversation from a couple guys who started at the bottom and worked their way to the top of the world in on-air television broadcasting in a short period of time. All 11 chapters are relevant, interesting, funny, and above all motivating. I did not want to put this book down. It simply laid out a sure fire plan that anyone with a fair amount of passion, drive, talent and ambition can follow to a successful on-air career in television. The book never comes across as preachy, or makes it seem like a career in television is too difficult or unrealistically easy. It was a joy to read such a current, and fresh perspective from two guys who have a message to share and do it as well as I've ever seen. It was also nice to hear it from someone who has been through all the trials and tribulations of getting an internship, putting together a resume tape, landing a first job and building their careers to the top markets in the country. It is simply a must read for anybody in high school, college, in the television industry currently or dreaming about entering it. Because of it's motivational and inspirational tone, I recommend it to anyone entering the work force in any field.

Based on the "Arthur" episode by the same name, "Buster Baxter, Cat Saver" teaches a lesson, but at the same time includes humor that escalates to greater and greater levels throughout the story. When Buster "rescues" a cat from a tree, he at first denies that it was an act of heroism; he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. As more and more attention starts be heaped on him, he starts to really get into being a hero, even starting a script for his own television series, which he states will be "edutainment." ("It's supposed to be a combination of entertainment and education, but often ends up being the worst of both.") When he starts trying to get the Brain to do his homework and being otherwise pompous, his friends start hatching schemes to try to bring his eager down to size. This is one bunny, though, who isn't so easily swayed.

My class of first graders loved this story. This story hasfunny things happen to the characters. Arthur is upset because Busterthinks he is better than everyone. This story has many plots and mysteries as Buster's friends try to show him that he is not as brave as he thinks. It is easy to read and easy to follow, but NOT BORING!

My 7-year old daughter (2nd grade) loves this entire series of books. When she was younger (up to kindergarten) she loved the "adventure" series of Arthur books. We made the transition to the chapter books because they have so much more story to them. They were perfect at the age where I would just read them to her, and by now we're at the point where she reads them to me. We have LOTS of books, but no others have held her interest as well across these stages. Fantastic value for the money. I automatically buy each new chapter book as they're released.

This is a very heartwarming story that provides an invaluable lesson for readers of all ages. The wonderful illustrations give a wonderful touch to a tender tale.

This book is highly recommended for sons and fathers, grandsons and grandfathers or anyone of us who has ever learned a trick or two from an "Old Badger."

It's Raining Benjamins: It's Pucci's 9th birthday. Chanel's mother isn't sure if she wants Pucci to have his own pet. But anyway, she buys one. On Pucci's b-day, Chanel's mother is angry because Chanel did not have permission to get a pet. And, Pucci gets upset because his father bought him a math book. It's a cool story.

Dorinda's Secret: Dorinda finds out she has a REAL sister. Tiffany. Dorinda isn't sure that the Cheetah's are gonna be okay with it. So, she doesn't tell her crew. When Dorinda meets Tiffany, she finds out she is white. Dorinda also has a meltdown. But, at the end of the meet Tiffany says: " Can i have your phone number?" then " Can i have a hug?" then " I'm so glad i met you!" Dorinda tells her crew about her sis. They are cool with it. It's a neat story.

Growl Power: Aqua And Angie are going back to houston for Thanksgivng. It's a big story. You'll have to read it it! It's a fabulous story.

All the reviews I've read are nothing like the book the book is much more different than the movie. It turns out that there are 5 grls instead of 4 and its really different like a totally different book except wit the same names. It is really good though.

i bought this for my 11 year old. she loves this book. kiki started reading it on saturday afternoon and was half way finshised by sunday night. she even took it in the bathroom. thahk god we have two. she is on her second or third time reading it and has recomended it to all her friends. she won't loan it to them yet. i will be purchasing the rest of the series.

I purchased this book (no longer in print) to learn more about church history during the 1st century. It helped me understand what was going on before, during and after this time period in a way that made real sense surrounding circumstances of the time period.

The greatest result was that I learned how man's influence through his traditions and teachings were introduced from both Rabbinic Judaism and Roman Christianity. The authors do a very nice job to distinguish between the Sound Doctrine given through Scripture, and the false doctrines resulting in man's misinterpretation of the Scriptures on both sides, Jewish and Christian. No small task!

This is a very scholarly and well documented book! If you want to clear the fog surrounding the historical origins of Christianity this is a must read. You may not like what you discover, but the content is factual and the authors exercise tremendous respect toward Judaism and Christianity with a genuine bold humility throughout the pages.

The BIG difference is this revolution (turning back to our roots)is being lead by the HOLY SPIRIT of God and the TRUTH of HIS WORD. It's packed full of TRUTH. His TRUTH concerning anti-Judiasm in the Early Church after AD 100 is the stone that will bring the GIANT of Anti-Semitism down. All the church needs to do is pick up this book and cut off his head, Arise and Live 2002 To 2005.

If you've ever had a best friend you are sure to enjoy this story. Trial and tribulations of friendship and willingness to follow your dreams and not willing to let anyone hold you back.

The book was released a few weeks before the film. It's about two young women named Connie and Carla(portrayed by Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette in the film) who run away to form a lounge act in various locations. They sing songs from various musicals including THERE ARE WORSE THINGS I COULD DO from "Grease"(both the musical and the 1978 film). Connie had a longtime dream of meeting her idol Debbie Reynolds. A short time later,BOOM! Reynolds appeared. Now Connie,Carla and Debbie are singing together. Connie and Carla were eluding mafia hitmen who are owed money from the girls and commit murder. As for the film,it got mixed reviews. It was a disappointment compared to Vardalos' previous film,MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING. Vardalos wrote or co-wrote the CONNIE & CARLA screenplay(she wrote MBFGW also).

Some movies should never be remade! Like say, "Some Like It Hot". Can you imagine how stupid it would be to try and remake that classic? Oh, wait. They did remake it. Some idiot suits thought it would be clever to update Billy Wilder's great film, this time with two women masquerading as drag queens. Oy! But, as with the pointless remake of Wilder's Sabrina, there is a bright side, namely a peachy novel of a crappy movie written by the master of the novelization, Deborah Chiel. What a great book. It really kept me in suspense. I enjoyed the supense and the idea of this book. Mulder believes Pusher can force people to kill and commit suicides through his will but Scully is unsure. She only gets convinced when Mulder puts her at gunpoint. Will she be able to survive Mulder's shot. See it in this great book CONTROL. Nice heading also

I loved this book so much when I first read it, it was like I was watching it on tv. I even used it in an assighnment for English thats how much I loved it. I recomend this book for everyone. Everyone out there go buy this book!!!
