Damn this book is Flawless it has Olympic stats it has some stats on the old players. The Only thing missing was 1892-1917 stats for players who did not play in the NHA or The NHL. I love the sections on the stats it has the players complete minor league and college stats as well as his Pro stats. It has the place he was drafted and all the transactions. This book has a wrap up of the Draft from 1965-1998 and does a fantastic job at it. The Stats and the Draft coverage is the best.

this book has anything and everything you want to know about hockey its almost to much stuff

If you like hockey, hate hockey, or do not know anything about the inarguably-greatest sports ever, then you definantly need this book. It's a great price too, believe it or not, and it's my personal bible. Anything I need to know about hockey is right here, every single player and all.

This book can tell you everything you every wanted to know about hockey and the tradition of hockey. You get to see so many stats about all the teams and the players of the NHL. A must have for all Hockey fans and players of the wonderful game.

I'm one of those schleps who had the misfortune of investing the CDN $70.00+ dollars on this book when it first came out, only to learn that many of the (in particular non-NHL) statistics were inaccurate or missing completely. This is understandable for the very early players, but still, it seems as though more effort should have been put into this initially. I am interested in the old Hamilton Tigers franchise, and prior to getting the book had already done some research into the early careers of some of the players. Right off, I noticed that there were problems with the Leo Reise and Goldie Prodgers listings. These--and no doubt innumerable others--were rectified in the later edition, but that is little consolation for me. I made my investment, and unless I can find the revised edition cheap, I have no intention on blowing more money just to finally get what I should have gotten in the first place. Still, it has been a useful book at times, so it's not a complete loss, I guess.

Those who want to learn about hockey - and not just what Alan Eagleson did to it - should run, not walk, to buy this book.
Conway's book is superb, and his work on Eagleson made him a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
It's a must-read for any sports writer, too. It's like having an "Investigative Journalism 101" class taught to you, and for a fraction of the money you'd pay at a university.

This is the most interesting book I have ever read. I studied it to do an oral presentation for Grade 9 English class a few years ago and was so intrigured by the Alan Eagleson story that, now in my first year of University, I am pursuing a career very similar to that of Alan Eagleson...one in which I would essentially deal with the business side of the NHL where I would love to make some sort of a positive influence, as Eagleson did. However, Alan Eagleson's corruption, which is described in this book, is an excellent example of how one person can cause a negative influence on many people's lives through illegitimacy and how public opinion of that person can change almost instantly as a result. Russ Conway did an excellent job of investigating Alan Eagleson, and his book is a wonderful summary of his work. I would recommend this book to anybody, whether they are a hockey fan or not.

Russ Conway has written a wonderful investigative piece about a man who is truly a disgraceful figure in the history of Canadian hockey. Russ brings forth, with his own agressive style, the wicked ways of a man who calling a crook is an understatement. First, he never backed down to get his answers and his writing is first-rate. Anyone who follows hockey should read about a man who almost destroyed it.

All hockey fans owe Russ Conway a debt of gratitude for helping rid hockey of the parasite Alan Eagleson. He documents Eagleson's criminal and disgusting behaviour in great detail, helping fans to better understand what hockey players faced in the past, the necessary background information for many of the issues facing pro hockey today. I haven't read such a gripping book since "Net Worth". Eagleson will be back in the courts again before long, no doubt willing to lie about the charges being brought forward by a number of retired hockey players. Read this book and you'll see that the players have justice on their team.

This is one of the most important sports books ever written. Through his exhaustive work, Russ Conway exposes the greed, corruption and financial swindling that plagued the NHL throughout Alan Eagelson's reign of terror and the financial and emotional price that so many players faced. Most importantly, Conway's work served as the catalyst for Mr. Eagleson's downfall and proving many player's assertions of corruption. Put simply, this is an important piece of journalism that every fan of sports should read, whether you are a hockey fan or not.

I find this book to be really interesting. What makes it the most interesting is that the person on the front cover of this book is me. I found this out by just happening to be in a book store and looking at hockey books. I looked under the Tampa Bay Lightning and their was my picture with my name by it. I really made me mad. No one told me they were going to put my picture in a book or my name. I don't even have a book for myself. I wish they still made them so I could have one. I feel they should have sent me a book or at least told me I was on the cover and my name was inside the book. Don't you think.

The photos and the stories in this book are amazing. So much more goes on in the NHL then I ever realized. This book is a great read if you're a Hockey fan.

This book has the most spectacular photographs of the NHL that have ever been amassed. The book not only captures the energy of the game that is played on the ice, but also the drama that occurs behind the scenes. Experience firsthand how much preperation goes on as a hockey team of 25 players plays two games on back to back nights in cities that are hundreds of miles apart. If you ever wanted to lace up the skates and live the life of an NHL hockey player for a day, this is the book you MUST EXPERIENCE

This is a neat coffee table book for hockey fans. Because it's compiled under the supervision of the NHL, it isn't going to reveal anything that Gary Bettman doesn't want you to know. I did find some interesting content in it, though. It's loaded with some great photos and short essays on the daily doings of the NHL as they happened on March 23, 1996. What I mainly liked about it was that it didn't just stick with a few teams, but almost all of them appear in one part, or another. It also talks about travel, workouts, pre-game prep (including what equipment crew are doing when ESPN and Fox Sports Net aren't around), ice rink conversion, press, fans, games, coaches, the dressing room, hotels, broadcasters, Gretzky, Keenan, St. Michael's, kids, arena crews, and trainers. It doesn't give the whole picture on everything, but it's an adequate scratch at the surface.

I have been trying to find this book for sale for about a year without any luck.Maybe this note will bring this book to my possession.I am just your average Joe looking for a book that has my picture in it next to the Stanley Cup.I would love to purchase this book if anybody has it.

This is probably the most enjoyable book I have read regarding hockey or hockey players. Brett provides a light-hearted look at his life that is neither boastful nor "preachy". He is surprisingly modest given the extraordinary career he has had. I particularly enjoyed hearing of his days growing up in the shadow of his legendary dad and how he overcame his own personal obstacles. This book could easily have been two or three times as thick but I am guessing Brett would not have enjoyed writing a lengthy tome - and clearly Brett is motivated by fun more than anything else! A great lesson for anyone!

Brett Hull was a great hockey player. He worked very hard to become a star player. It was very hard growing up the son of a famous hockey player,especailly after his parents divorced. I think Brett Hull will be remembered and admired for his goal scoring and records he set on the ice. After reading this book I will remember him for how hard he works and how he never gave up his dream. I would recommend this book top everyone that is a hockey lover. I enjoyed the book and was happy I chose it.

THIS IS THE STORY OF BRETT HULL IN HIS OWN WORDS. I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. BRETT DOES A NICE JOB DESCRIBING HIS CAREER, RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS DIVORCED PARENTS, AND HIS THOUGHTS ON BEING HIMSELF. BRETT FINALLY PLAYED ON A STANLEY CUP WINNER IN 1999. HE TELLS OF ALL THE PLAYOFF DEFEATS AND THE FRUSTRATIONS DURING HIS CAREER. HE ADDS HUMOR, HONESTY, AND ALOT OF INSIGHTS ON THE GAME OF HOCKEY. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL HOCKEY FANS AS A GOOD READ.

This is a great book, all of you brett hull fans or not, should go and get this book, it is definetily the best book i've ever read in a long time

As others have noted, the book is not only informative but entertaining. Barkley's photos set the tone brilliantly for a look at the game in earlier days. Where today players wear helmets and masks, then Barkley's close-in style highlighted the emotion of the game by vividly showing players' faces. The illuminated, rapid-fire sports photography of today loses the luster of Barkley's contrasted shots that make it seem as though there is only the players and the ice surface, which he lit with his own set of lights along the glass hours before each game.

A must-have along with Kevin Allen, Bob Duff and Johnny Bower's "Without Fear."

I own many hockey books, and this book is, by far, the one I open up most often. Each picture takes you into a world of NHL hockey that has long passed away. The beautiful full-color photographs will cause you to forget that they are images of the fastest moving sport in the world. It's as if the players have posed for the camera in an attempt to recreate hidden moments of the game. The facial expressions alone will capture your eye. You'll find yourself scanning every detail of the pictures, looking for that elusive black puck (and you'll find that puck in nearly every picture). This book is a pure treasure for fans of the game of hockey, in particular those fans who remember the simple days of 6 teams, 120 players, 1 Cup.

You can literally spend hours looking at this book and not tire of the images. They're so life-like it's eerie. Harold Barkley's strobe photography techniques give the pictures a "3-D" quality that is completely absent in today's "flat" images. Of course, the fact that the stars in the photos are from the "Golden Era" (50's and 60's) make the book all that much better. These stills make you yearn for the hockey of yesteryear, even if you weren't there! The flat sticks, the glossy narrow skates, the bryl-cream donned hair (helmet, what helmet?) - it's all here right down to the ice-shavings littering the goal crease, all in awesome detail.

Frank Selke's introduction is excellent as well. Here is a man that makes no bones about why this was hockey's greatest era. My favorite example - fights were seen as a gentlemanly way to settle differences, not as an indication of a sport gone awry with "violence". My only complaint is that his anecdotes are only a few pages rather than a few chapters.

But the photographs are really what this book is about. Sure, the statistics and history of each player featured are there, but I found my eyes continually wandering from the print back to the image - they're that good. It's tempting to cut them all out and frame them.

This book will be enjoyed by any hockey fan, but if your over 40 it will be a treasure.

Wow! Buy this book just for the fabulous photographs taken by Harold Barkley, a long-time photgrapher with the Toronto Star. Barkley pioneered the use of the strobe in sports photography, and the detail he captured in these bright color photos is phenomenal--the texture of the ice, the meticulously greased and combed hair on the players, the rows of dark-suited spectators in the audience. This is how hockey used to look! The text consists of 1-2 page spreads on individual players of the day. The stars are all here, of course, but more interesting, to me anyway, are the players who've slipped from memory--Andy Hebenton, Norm Ullman, Camille Henry, Elmer Vasko. These names ring bells for fans who grew up in that era, but you seldom hear them now. Yet, here they are, preserved for us both in prose and in pristine photographic detail. This book's a gem.

This year, the book includes facts like "who played where in 2004-05" and "Who's playing where in 2005-06" (with all the changes that took place during the summer). Plus information about thye 2006 Olympics AND the New Rules.
For the price, you get more than your money's worth.
but just don't take my word for it, but it, read it, use it.
It's also a nice cover with Lemieux (now retired, unfortunately, again) and Crosby, the next one.

This annual volume is especially nicein that it includes small photos of active players as well as number of retirees. It is also a good source to learn which of the old timers have passed away. Another feature I like is the all time records by player, and to see where the current veterans are positioned in these ranks. This issue also shows where all the active players played during the 2003-04 strike season. This book contains everything you can think of about the current hockey teams as well as the history from the early beginnings.

The greatest all-time stat book that the NHL has. A great encyclopedia on the players of the game. Every player and rookie listed along with their picture, and every year of stats they produced throughout their career. Every team and player record as well. This book has been printed yearly for over 20 years. A must have, if you like to update your rosters in EA Sports computer game NHL 2006, look no farther. This book also has a retired index of every player that ever stepped on the ice as well. THis book is 25 bucks, but you will find yourself using it a great deal throughout the entire 2005-2006 season. I promise. Let's Go Rangers!!!!!

Dan Diamond and his staff have again done an outstanding job of preparing a preview guide that ranks among the best in any pro sport. For the hockey fan, this isn't an optional purchase, but one you must have.

The statistical information for active players and prospects is unrivaled in any print resource. And while much of this information can now be found online (at the Internet Hockey Database, a great resource), there's nothing like having this handy reference on your desk or coffee table to grab up during a game, or while you're having a conversation about a player.

I've bought this book for years, and I still love going over the lists of all-time leaders, or looking at a list of guys who scored 50 goals in a season and reminiscing about those times. For hockey trivia addicts, this book is like a great fix, with list after list, and recaps from every season preceeding 2005.

There are a couple of items I'd love to see added to this annual, but it's hard to quibble about so great a resource. This should find a home on the desk or coffee table of every NHL fan out there

We bought Hockey the NHL Way because my son plays inline /roller hockey which is similar to ice hockey except it is done on skates. This is an excellent book that simply and succinctly lays out the basics of playing hockey. There are conditioning drills, individual skill drills, how to play as part of a team whether it be on defense or offense, and gives strategies on how to apply these skills as a part of a team. Both beginner and experienced hockey players can benefit from Hockey the NHL Way as it is a good refresher plus builds upon individual skills a player might have already developed. It is a quick read and does not get too technical. Both ice and roller hockey players will improve their game by reading this book.

VERY HELPFULL IN COACHING YOUNG KIDS JUST STARTING TO PLAY THE GAME OF HOCKEY. TIPS AND PICTURS OF ACTUAL DRILLS IS GREAT.

Makes you a better skater, shooter, goaltender, anything you can think of in hockey, it makes you better.

This is an excellent introductory book for parents of children who want to play hockey. It covers all the types of equipment involved, and offers suggestions on how to buy what you need. It discusses how to be a responsible hockey parent, and how to support and encourage your young player. Special attention is paid to the unique needs of girls (there aren't many for kids in the age group being covered by this book), and also the particular needs of goaltenders. I checked this book out from my local library, but have decided to buy a copy to keep at home for reference.

This is the best book for first time hockey parents. I had no idea how to tape a stick, buy shoulder pads, skates or even that there was such a thing as a neck guard.

The book is written by a physician and hockey lover, who knows his stuff. It has given me a lot of confidence when dealing with "more knowledgeable" parents and coaches. It has also helped me make it more fun for my kid.

If you have a kid who is going to play hockey: BUY THIS BOOK!!! The information on equipment and injuries is worth the price alone. Knowing how tape a stick and buy equipment has saved me a lot of time and money.

This book is a true treasure-chest of puck history for any fan
of the National Hockey League. "Years of Glory" chronicles the pre-expansion "Original-Six" -team era of the NHL. On the inside front and back covers are shown old-style tin table hockey players in the uniforms of the "Original-Six" team members: the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Inside you will find colorful stories and photos of a bygone era when players went without helmets and goalies without masks. Many of the all-time greats are featured: Gordie Howe, Rocket Richard, Bobby Hull, Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante, Glenn Hall, Terry Sawchuk, and Bobby Orr among many. There is even a chapter on minor-pro hockey during the six-team era with players Johnny Bower, Guyle Fielder and Andy Hebenton featured. Many interesting statistics like Stanley Cup playoff scores and league draft results are listed. The catalogue of dozens of great old photos alone makes this volume well worth its price.

Fantastic year-by-year account of the postwar Original Six era. Each season is covered with extra reading on things like the Habs' unforgotten dynasty (i.e. the '60s) or the Wings' 7(?) straight first-place finishes. Photos are superb and the writing is first-rate. I never lived through this era but the book made it come alive for me.

This book is great! It has information about the NHL and hockey dating back into the 1800s, such as who won the Stanley Cup each year from when it was first introduced to the 2000 season, as well as photos, season highlights, articles, and facts for each season.

By reading this book you'll learn information about the different professional leagues that led to the formation of the NHL, and well as the first ever official hockey game, where the first pro hockey league was located, and which teams and star players were involved. It also includes a table of teams containing all of the teams, which city they've played in, they're old and new names, and the years as each franchise.

Bobby Orr's foreword is also interesting, as it gives his view on hockey and his career.

I would strongly recommend this book to any hockey fan!
