The size of the book is appropriate for carrying in the field. The narrative is concise and well presented. The pictures
of the birds are easy to reference. The real test of a field guide, though, is how useful it is when there is an unidentified
bird in front of you. I will not know that until I get back from S. Africa in March but this book appears comparable to the
better guides for US birds.
Easy to use reference book.

We wanted to label all the photos of birds we took in South Africa. This book made it easy to locate the drawings of the
birds. . .drawings that were very lifelike. . .and attach the names to the photos. We highly recommend this guide.

This guide looks perfect for my needs. I have looked it over carefully, even though I haven't had a chance to use it in the
field. I definitely like the quick reference guide to bird types inside the front and back covers and the color-coded reference
to bird groups. Look forward to using this guide in the field.

Well worth the money to enjoy your trip to South Africa even more. Even with a good guide (like we had with Transfrontiers)
it is well worth taking a strong field guide like Birds of Southern Africa. That way when your guide is trying to tell you
what you are looking at, you can see the picture up close and get a better idea. We have done many trips to various parts
of Africa and this is one of the best guides we have used.
A standard for other field guides

Warning: using this field guide will make you dissatisfied with many other field guides. You will enjoy studying and using
this guide.
The illustrations are large and detailed, distinctly more accurate than most guides. In addition most are just beautiful works. They are grouped in species settings with juveniles, alternate plumage, flight and significant field marks highlighted.
On the opposite page: written description, habitat, abundancy status and call descriptions with a range map plus the Afrikaans name.
As an example of the illustrations: the Laughing Dove is illustrated by two flight poses and a profile. The profile has arrows noting 'no hind collar', 'cinnamon back' and 'black-flecked necklace'. The written text notes marks that distinguish this bird from a Cape Turtle-Dove.
The cover is plastic coated and the pages have a lesser water resistant coating.
A lot of attention to detail went into creating this book --colored coded page edges according to bird group, groups of waterbirds and hawks in flight for comparison, a checklist near the index and internet addresses of birding resources in the area.
All this in a work that I carried in a large pants pocket every day.
It just makes me wish such books were available for many more areas.

Hockey Days is a top of the line "feel-good" book for any hockey lover. Even if you're not into hockey you will enjoy the
heartfelt tale that resonates love & laughter for fathers and sons.
This tale brought back memories of childhood friends and stories I have shared with my daughter about my childhood sports memories.
It's a great book to share with your children and it will get them interested in hockey too. It also tells a warm story of a father and son who relive the father's "glory days" and lead the son to believe his father is "pretty cool" after all.
I highly recommend this book to any and all. Hockey fan or not, you'll Love "Hockey Days".

I played field hockey about 9 years ago and recently my arm has been slightly twisted to coach middle school hockey. I had
forgotten all the basics of the game and this book is a quick to the point guide. I like the pictures it provides and the
drills. My goalie coach who had never even seen a game before has been able to use the book and apply it to coaching my goalies.
I definitly recommend this book whether you are a coach who is looking for a break down of skills or a player looking to improve
your game.

This book is a must-have for serious field hockey players. It provides all the information you need to get in shape and stay
in shape. It provides instruction and advice that every field hockey player should know about training. Field hockey isn't
just about the game, it's about the months of practise and training leading up to it as well. If you are serious about the
sport, I would buy it.

Rebecca Mason has the chance to compete in a seven-a-sides hockey tournament but finds the challenge of proving Joss Vining
wrong all too tempting. Joss makes a casually cruel remark to Rebeck at the start of the term and Rebecca sets out to prove
that she not a 'rubbish tennis' player by being accepting into the Prudential tournament. A new girl, Fiona, stirs things
up with the fourth years and when the mystery of whether or not she has the gift of ESP is revealed, her real talent is found
out by Laura and Tish. She is immediately included in the Trebizon Tramps hockey team, however, who has to give up her place?
On a more personal level, Rebecca and Robbie finds their 'friendship' is tested, maybe Rebecca hasn't forgiven his behaviour
from the previous term?! In a typically Trebizon conclusion, the problems of Tish, Rebecca, Laura and Fiona are played out
until an exciting end. Does Rebecca prove Joss wrong? Can she sort things out with Robbie? Buy the book, it's well worth it!

Tom Keegan has assembled an outstanding book. With one daughter currently playing women's college hockey at St Lawrence University,
and another who wants to attend either Boston College or Yale, and continue her hockey career, I found this book to be a
great source of information. The chapter on "Coaches Surveys" gives all female hockey players a true picture of the "well-rounded"
player that coaches look for, emphasizing the importance of academic strength along with hockey skills. Tom presents a lot
of information, in plain english, and in one resource, that makes this book a great value. Each daughter has a copy, and
I've bought three more copies to give to their friends who want to continue hockey at the college level.
