When I was 13 and I saw a preview for this book in the Scholastic book order, I was so excited since I had enjoyed part 1 of Sea City in #8 Boy Crazy Stacey. I went out and bought it just in time for summer vacation and took it with me to read when I went with my family to the Oregon Coast. It was very appropriate reading material for that environment. It was so good, and I enjoyed it except that I feel like there was too much 'romance' in it. And that seemed to make it dull. But it was still good, although I preffered Sea City part 1 in Book #8.

Very dramatic.

It's Sea City part 2 when Mary Anne and stacey go back to sea City. Vannesa Pike has a crush on the ice cream parlor man only to mention that the ice cream man has a crush on Mallory pike. Mary anne has also a crush on alex. Will a summer romance come between Mary Anne and Logan? Will Vannesa's heart be broken by the ice cream man? there's a reason for all of this.
NOTE: THERE ARE TOO MANY BOYS IN SEA CITY!

after some stupid stunts at sweet valley middle school for initiation of choosing a new president for the unicorns, the unicorns get in trouble and have to do community service hours. But this was something that would change them all for the better, at least in the first 5 books of the series that is. They became softies who wanted to help children and elizabeth and maria joined the unicorns.

Six haunted Hairdos that make you Scream

Review Date: 2004-01-26
In my language arts class we have to read three books every nine weeks. I have read my first book called Six Haunted Hairdos. As I read this book I went into a journey. I would love to take you with me on the journey again. So here we go!

Oh wow, look where we are. We are in the book called the Six Haunted Hairdos. Now we can see who the author is. The author is Gregory McGuire and he has a collection of books, just like this book I'm about to talk about. The book we are inside is a story. This book is also adventurous and has a lot of mystery in it.

Now we move to the first page of this book and we can work our way through the book. This book is about when Sammy Grubb and his club of the copycats try to convince the students of Josiah Fawcett Elementary that ghosts do exist. Thekla Mustard, who fronts the all girl club cynical tattletales, sees a perfect opportunity to spook up a plan and scare the boys. With the help of her friends they get together six wacky, crazy, and scary wigs, a lot of make-up, and some costumes. The tattletales transforms themselves into the six Haunted Hairdos, as they frightened the boys out of their pants. The tattletales give the boys a few scares. When Thekla Mustard takes her club to her house, they go up the room and Thekla congratulates them on what a fine job they did. When Pearl Hotchkiss hears the girls talking about scaring the boys again, Pearl runs to boy's club and tells the boys what the girls have been doing. So the boy's try to get back at the girls. When they get ready to scare the girls, all of a sudden an elephant comes out and Salim thinks it's a ghost of an elephant named baby Tusker. He thinks the ghost is coming to haunt him, but it wasn't. So they went to go find the tattletales after they made a plan. The girls went to go meet the boys and the boys said they wanted to meet the six haunted hairdos. Thekla said she didn't think they would come out, when all of a sudden the six haunted hairdos appeared. The girls ran down the hill and at the bottom they saw an elephant named baby Tusker.

Did you like the short story about the book? Now would you like to tell me any parts about the book you liked? I know I've got some, so here they are. The strong part of the book is that throughout the whole story it never gets boring and has good endings to each chapter. There are no weak parts to the book. Gregory McGuire has wonderful books because they are funny and interesting... I like that.

I think this book would be recommended for children in fourth grade through eighth grade. Well, I hoped you enjoyed your journey through this book. We've got to go before we get taken by a customer, so bye.
Sincerely, Hannah

The "Tattletales" (all but one of the girls) and the "Copycats" (the boys) in Miss Earth's class can't agree on the existence of ghosts. The Tattletales insist there's no such thing. The Copycats insist there IS such a thing, especially after seeing something large and inhuman roaming the area.

A new Copycat, Salim from Bombay, has a secret that might explain the mysterious ghost seen by the boys, but he's afraid to tell them. In the meantime, the Tattletales plan to scare the boys by posing as the Six Haunted Hairdos. If the children of Hamlet, Vermont don't watch out, they'll scare the pants off each other!

Clever and humorously written, this book will capture elementary students' imaginations with the Copycats' and Tattletales' adventures. Besides the fun, kids will also be shown examples of compassion and generosity, traits often lacking in today's media. Equally important, this chapter book is easily read for intermediate readers.

Gregory Maguire's magic touch brings another installment to a great series for kids.

Six Haunted Hairdos is the sequel to Seven Spiders Spinning. It is about to rival clubs, The Copycats (boys) and The Tatletails (girls). In this book the members of The Copycats believe in ghosts and state so in class. The Tatletails decide to play a joke on The Copycat's "silly" belief and give The Copycats their idea on girls thrown at them. This joke turns out to be less fake then they thought, as The Tatletails and The Copycats meet real ghosts and have to unite the ghosts, and set aside their club differences, before it's too late and Hamlet, their town, becomes filled with ghosts. This book is exciting and portrays some very interesting veiws on the rivalrey between boys and girls.

The book I reviewed is called Six Haunted Hairdos. This book was written by Gregory Maguire. Six Haunted Hairdos is a fictional book, and it is sort of a mystery, but at the same time it is an adventure.
A group of girls and a group of boys are always trying to outdo each other. When the girls cook up a wonderful plan to scare the boys, things start getting out of hand. Thelka Mustard, the empress of the girls club, who call themselves the Tattletales, tells the boys that six beauticians were recently killed on a nature trip. Though none of this is true, the boys are not sure whether they should believe this story or not.
Meanwhile, the boys who call their club (...), are having ghost troubles of their own, without Thelka Mustard trying to scare them with her crazy ghost story. Sammy Grubb, who is the emperor (...), thinks that they all saw a baby elephant, though this was no ordinary elephant, it was ghost.
The Tattletales are planning to scare the boys in their "Six Haunted Hairdos" costumes. Thelka leads the boys into the woods so that the "ghost beauticians" can do their jobs. The plan works out great and the boys got scared. Now the boys are even more sure that the baby elephant was a ghost. You should read this book to find out what happens with the ghost elephant and the "Six Haunted Hairdos".
This book's strengths are that it has good details and it is very compelling. It is a good book. The book's weakness is that at times, it can be a little bit confusing.
I think the author Gregory Maguire is a good author who knows how to use details. He writes good books. I would recommend this book to any reader who likes suspenseful, mysterious, and spooky books. If you enjoyed reading this book, then you should read the rest of the book series!

Good Ideas, But Needs Revisions

While this book contains the good basic idea of scheduling time for your studies and other activities in your life, the first few "chapters" are just wasted paper - they read more like a sales pitch than a motivational and organizational tool.

There are quite a few typos, and the Auditorial Study Skills Program chapter is printed entirely in CAPS, which quickly becomes annoying. It looks like a student's first attempt at publishing.

You get a good deal for $10, but if you can get it used, do so.

I used this book to help my Brownie Troop earn a badge. It was a wonderful introduction into discussion of helping animals. The exciting advenutre with its endearing characters is followed by a brief, but effective explanation of what children should and should not attempt with real wild animals. After hearing this story, the girls decided to take on a volunteer project at a local animal shelter. We are waiting for the next adventure of The Animal Rescue Club to see what it inspires.

My second grader is devoring books these days. She has been reading a number of the "I Can Read Chapter Books". Of these books, this was her favorite. She liked the characters - spunky girl, timid boy, and kind boy that took care of the animals. She is hoping that the Animal Rescue Club will come out with more adventures.

She found the story credible and exciting. She would give this book a thumbs up!

I loved this book. I could totally relate to the lead character and her friends. I remember this freedom that every teen thinks they have. And then you become an adult and a parent and realize what a cage you were actually in. Man we were so naive, but definitely thought otherwise! The author brings you right to the marina, I could smell that sea air! I don't recommend this book just to young adults, but to those who want to take a peek back! But, be careful boy's...like my husband you might fall in love with that high school babe all over again.

This is a funny, realistic book about high school!

I love McCants' characters. They're real - not the prom kings and queens, but teenagers who have everyday problems. The setting of Anything Can Happen in High School is also really cool - laid-back California. This isn't the deepest reading, but it's funny and obviously written by someone who understands teenagers.

Can't we all remember Boomer from his books and not his later years after fame departed? We love the cute doggie in these books but can we erase the knowledge of his fall from the spotlight? Wasn't there his messy divorce from Lassie, his time at Betty Ford, the "biting" incident with the cameraman, those two loose pooches and the webcam in Vegas? But before all that did or did not come to pass, we all fell in love with a slaphappy golden retreiver and this tale of him going to school is the best of the lot.

Boomer, we're rooting for your comeback, dude.

Tony had a real father once, then had three stepfathers. All of them died, leaving Tony's mother heartbroken and feeling like she's some sort of bad luck charm. Tony has become accustomed to moving to new places, so he isn't very upset when he and his mother move to a new town to live in his aunt's place for a few months. He will do part of his high school time there, making no friends or connections, and then move onto someplace new to finish.

Things don't go the way Tony planned, though. The very first day of school, he meets a weird group of students, artists who immediately pull him into their group even when he doesn't try to be friends with them. One of them in particular, a girl named Jordan, intrigues him. She seems to be running on fast forward all of the time and she doesn't easily take no for an answer.

Tony tries to resist Jordan, but finds himself drawn to her. He is able to calm her down when she gets out of control with stress, and she helps to teach him that his mother isn't as fragile as he thinks and doesn't need him to watch over her every second. But when Tony feels like his trust has been betrayed, will they be able to remain friends?

I liked that the artist characters were all very interesting and unique; I'd actually like to have read more about them as individuals. I also liked the details of Tony's cooking, from the things he cooked to how he went about it and why he liked to cook so much.

I thought that some of the characters were over the top, though. Jordan, especially, seemed really irritating and not at all endearing as Tony seemed to think she was. I also thought that her betrayal was incredibly obvious; I knew from the start that it was going to happen and I thought it was strange that Tony didn't figure it out.

Confess-O-Rama is good for the soul.

Koertge is one of America's finest writers of books foryoung people, and Confess-O-Rama keeps his string of hitsgoing. Tony's mother has a knack for marrying men who die too soon, starting with Tony's father and going right through his 3 subsequent stepfathers. Now, as Tony and his mom are recovering from the latest death and living [temporarily?] in West Paradise, CA, Tony meets an unusual group of high school artists and begins sharing his problems with a phone service called Confess-O-Rama, little suspecting that his voice and others will become source material for a performance piece.

I cannot even say how much I enjoyed this book. Although I picked it up for my younger sister (10), at 14 I had a great time with it. While not drowning in romance, or that kind of drippy friendship that most new literature is pressing on us these days this book managed to get across the kind of relationship any teenager needs. Insightful, smart, humorous, and an easy read, this is a great book for anyone who feels like they don't belong, are being discriminated against, is an artist, or likes cooking. What an incredible book!!!
