Football Books

I really like this book. It is a compilation of presentations from 20 of the country's best college coaches of how to run their base offense. Each coach tells not only how to run the offense, but why. There is a significant amount of detail in the 10 pages or so each coach has from splits, to handling 3 and 5 technique defenders, to blocking assignments. Some even explain how much time they allot in practice to various techniques and what key concepts they need the players to learn. For example, on page 56, there is a paragraph that explains what the tight end does on his first and second steps.

The book is not as dry as it may sound. These are presentations that have been transcribed and most coaches start and/or end with a story or tell about something meaningful to them.

This is a great resource for the old school single winger to the modern spread teams. I nice base to start!!

If you know about Coach Leo Hand and his book "The Tee: Football Offense of the 21st Century" then you just found his inspiration. Coach Baldock does a great job of explaining the offense and you can see why he won all those championships.

The Codebreaker Kids is very funny. I read this because my 4thgrade teacher has a copy and she let me read it. My 4th grade teacher[...] knows George Edward Stanley. My teacher grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma, and G.E. Stanley lives there now. George Edward Stanley also wrote some of the 'M.T. Coffin' books. You can check out M.T. The book is very informative, well organized data, and makes for a great reference guide to College Football.

The only football program better than USC over the past 100 years is Notre Dame.

This book is the first of it's kind to be written in both an academic and personalised manner. The author's use of real life scenario's from his experience in Sports medicine fully complement the factual information included in the text.

The World Cup is like an entire one month long Olympiad dedicated just to soccer, and it's a shame that North America has yet to get it the way the rest of the world has. Any die-hard soccer fan needs to have this collection handy.

In preparing this book I have kept in mind two major aims: First, and foremost, to make the book as useful as possible. Every drill is explained in detail, and, when feasible, is further clarified by line drawings or photographs. Thus, the book's mail value is as a reference to the specific problems of teaching skills.

Second, to present and include only drills that have been proven. This has automatically ruled out approximately one hundred drills on hand that are interestnig but not yet tested.

The present edition differs from the original text in four respects. First, it includes new drills and illustrations. Second, it contains an entirely new part on conditioning drills complete with photographs especially prepared for each drill. Third, it presents a complete new chapter on quarterback drills. To the author's knowlege, this is the first time a complete chapter on drills to train the quarterback has appeared in print. And, finally, it includes additional material and ideas to supplement the chapter on practice organization.

Don Kirkendall is a doc that really has "been there and done that." This book provides super information, based on studies and years of experience from the youth to national team level on what comprises soccer fitness, how to improve it, and how to test for it. The section on injury prevention alone is worth the cover price. This is a great way for club and high school coaches, in particular, to get up to date with the latest in exercise physiology as it relates to soccer. It's a much more user friendly book than Jens Bangsbo's excellent, but way down in the physiological weeds, book.
