A very good autobiography, infact the best I have ever read. Goes through his life in detail. From Aliquippa to Pitt to Dallas and Denver and all the mishaps and action that happened in these places. It also gives good growing up details and how it was like in family. A very exquisite book.

Incredible survey of the life of a Superstar Running Back

One of the all time great running backs in the NFL Tony Dorsett leaves nothing to the imagination as he describes the his life from childhood, to the University of Pittsburgh, to the Dallas Cowboys and the end of his career with the Denver Broncos. A must read to learn about all the difficulties of being in the spotlight. One of the best books I have read.

READ ABOUT THE NINER GREATS
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-09
I have almost every book thats been put out on the 49ers and now i added this one. This book's entire emphasis is on the great 49er players from the past so it's a great read to see what they are doing today. There are a ton of names not here of course but the author rounded up quite a few to talk about. Appropriately, there are 49. Having watched a number of these players, and a good amount i never had the privilege to see, (a few are from the 1946 team!!),this book was obviously very intriguing to me. I think i was most captivated by Eason Ramson's story. Pick this book up and enjoy!

Being an avid Forty niner fan I wasnt thrilled about this upcoming season, until I picked up Matt Maiocco's book on our heroes of previous years. I devoured the book in a couple of days and felt like I was still connected to these Warriors. After finishing the book I am fired up for the season to begin and cant wait to see what author Maiocco has planned for his 3rd Forty Niner story. Any true fan of the Niners needs to pick this book up.

I can't recommend this book stronger. For Manchester United fans it's the opportunity to follow a year with the side from the untainted by the PLC view of the supporter. For Reds abroad, it serves as the perfect reminder of home. For non-United or those not football supporters it's a chance to understand what we go through. Well written and personal, Paul and Linda have created a book you'll want to dip into time and time again.

Chris Warner has compiled the most comprehensive collection of SEC Sports History ever. If you know a die-hard SEC fan surprise them with this set for their next birthday. They will love you forever for it. The collector's box is really neat and you do get a 20% cost savings by burying the set. Highly recommended is this one.

An excellent book about a truly different subject - baseball players that died before their careers were over. Many of the players featured are strangers to us. But just as many are, or were, household names. This is not a book about death. It's a book about the lives of these baseball players who had a personal side which were learn about. I recommend it highly.

"SEASONS"- TOO SHORT

Review Date: 2007-07-01
While I greatly enjoyed "SHORTENED SEASONS", I read it at one sitting.
Though some of the players' ends (such as Munson, Clemente and Chapman etc.) have already been extensively reported on, I found the inclusion of those on the other side of the scale (such as the one-gamers) novel and
entertaining.
Other than realizing the picture on page # 152 of Elmer Gedeon had to be
that of Elmer's uncle, the banned-for-life, Joe Gedeon (in either 1913 or 1914, before Elmer was born) my only problem with the book was: I wish there were more of it.

Outstanding story and outstanding writing
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-29
This is a great read! The book provides a concise history of Memphis with some obscure but highly entertaining anecdotes. This sets the stage for the focus of the book, the coming to maturity of our society using Memphis as the platform to tell the story. The event used by the author is a football game played in 1943. The book goes on to follow the participants through the battlefields of Europe and campaigns of the Pacific. If you like the "Greatest Generation" you'll love this as the scope is broader, provides the imagination more leash and the author doesn't preach like Brokaw.

Attention High School Football Coaches
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-07
This book along with it's accompanying video could be a gold mine for any high school coach looking for something a little different to give his offense a competitive edge. Update the blocking rules and The Single Wing Offense with the Spinning Fullback will be a literal nightmare for most high school defenses to stop, especially if they only have one week to prepare defending against it (you'll be the only kid on the block!) The Single Wing is not a "trick" offense but a viable and powerful offense. I know because I coached it. Although not everything in the book is applicable, if you'll eat the meat and spit out the bones there is some great information here!

Coach Aldrich has provided an excellent resource for coaches that still employ the single-wing attack. The system is easy to implement and it is very well-conceived.

This is a great story and I had to read the book from cover to cover. It's funny, insightful and shows just what it is that a real fan goes through. I had tears in my eyes from the despcriptive narrative and it also had me crying with laughter. Very funny indeed. Go buy it if you're a true fan.

I loved this account, and felt I was right there with the writer. Anyone who has stood on the terraces, especially ManU fans, should read this book. A funny, emotional, graphic record of this 'love-struck' guy for his team, even when they were at rock bottom. I couldn't leave this book, and will read it again before too long.
