Front the cover: This book begins with a description of the New England Indian and how he lived for centuries before the arrival of the white man. It then goes on to pinpoint the fate of specific Connecticut tribes, after the Dutch and English arrived, a fate which reduced their numbers until only 123 pure-blooded Indians remain in the state today (c. 1972).

This book has been indispensible in tracking down key information on a number of my relatives. My family came from the school of thought that what was left in the past should stay in the past. With most of my relatives now dead, there are few people to talk to. The two books in the collection are well-organized and easy to use.

I have been researching the John (Pilgrim) Ogden line for 30 years and now I know why I had so much difficulty trying to understand this genealogy. The book is excellent. It provides some much needed answers to the question surrounding Wheeler's, "Ogden Genealogy" and how much of the information in the beginning of that text is false. No wonder we are all having so many problems with this family line. The only downside to the book is that there isn't enough information on the Ogdens of England which would substantiate the line going back much further than 1600. However, 1600 is nothing to laugh at. Anyone want to write a book on John Ogden of Rye. It turns out that's my ancestral line, not the Pilgrim's. These two were cousins and I wish there had been more information than one small paragraph in the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone researching the Ogden family line.

The books arrived ahead of time and in great shape. Price quoted was the price paid. If you are a history buff, especially from Killingly Ct. you will abosultly love this selection. What was really great was after I completed the book, I took it to my parents. They really enjoyed sharing there part of growing up in Killingly. Now the stories will be handed down to the next generation. I thank the people who wrote this book and all that were instramental. One finaly note is that Killingly will be celebrating it's tricentenial next year. I will be able to relate in many portions.

I own several the the Images of America Series and, overall, they are a wonderfully interesting and nostalgic read.
However, I cannot review this volume yet as I have not received this part of my order. In my experience with the others, I'm sure it will be just as good.

Dr. Lassonde successfully walks a fine line with this insightful book. He packs his book with statistics and documentary evidence to support his central argument about the dynamic interplay between family structure and local/state school authorities, but he rises above the standard academic tome with his skillful, humane writing about these Italians, Irish and others in New Haven's little melting pot. One comes to appreciate the pain these immigrants felt in their new land as their sons and daughters become, inexorably, more "American" through their experiences in the public schools.

Having grown up in Gales Ferry, this book was very cool for me. Though I now live in Groton (the next town to the south) my parents still live in Gales Ferry. These are the most amazing books on town history I've ever read. It was so neat to see pictures of my elementary and high schools, and learn the history of the town I lived in for so long.
The pictures these books have are amazing. I've read the Groton book as well as some other surrounding towns, and the information these books possess is incredible. I highly recommend finding one of these books about your own town. They are so informative and interesting.

A Good, Concise Introduction to the Lenape

Written by one of the foremost authorities on the Lenape in New Jersey, the late Dr. Herbert Kraft, this book provides a very good introduction to the first New Jerseyans. Of course, a book of only 60 pages cannot cover everything, but for students, teachers, or anyone else interested in a quick, concise introduction to the Lenape, you cannot go wrong with this book. Dr. Kraft covers the history and the culture of the Lenape from the Early Archaic through the Woodland to the Contact periods. Topics discussed include medicine, religious practices, clothing, hunting and fishing, pottery, and warfare. There are appendices explaining Lenape words and placenames. The illustrations of Dr. Kraft's son, John, complement the text nicely; for more information on the work of John Kraft, building on his father's legacy, go to [...]. That site and this book are good places to begin to find out more about the Lenape or Delaware Indians.
