Tony Dungy shows that the quiet man can accomplish great things. Coaching, and life do not require boisterous, bloviating and bullying to be sucessful. We need more coaches like Tony. In sports and in life itself.

This is a wonderful keepsake, and at a very affordable price. The pictures of the team were great, and they've thrown in a picture or two of Colts' fans. Certainly our Super Bowl victory was a long-time coming, and this is a great way to remember and relive it. Would make a nice gift, as well. Mine also came in superb condition.

It's the perfect book for the young reader. Great book for a book report for the elementary school children. My son enjoyed the book and learned a lot about his favorite football player.

Perfect for grade-school kids!

We struggled to find books on Payton Manning at our local libraries and even the larger-chain bookstores... nobody had anything useful on their shelves for a grade-school book report. So we bought this one online and it was perfect. It was easy enough for my 3rd-grader to read, and is filled with enough useful information for a book report on Payton's life and accomplishments.

Ain't Nothin' But a Winner: Bear Bryant, The Goal Line Stand, and a Chance of a Lifetime

Great motivational memoir!

Review Date: 2007-03-18
Barry Krauss' memoir captured and held my attention throughout. I wouldn't compare Krauss in either the areas of memoir writing or sports writing to Mitch Albom, but I doubt Mr. Albom could participate head-on in a goal line stand and live to tell about it--much less write a book about it. So, after we take the likes of Mitch Albom out of the equation and look at Ain't Nothin' But a Winner on its own merit, I can easily say that I found it to be a well-written, compelling memoir. After all, it's not every football player (turned writer) who can come up with descriptions such as "Alabama again came within one single puff of Coach Bryant's unfiltered Chesterfield cigarette of winning two national championships...." That's nice imagery. That's writing that keeps me reading.

Beyond looking at the book from a literary standpoint, the story and the message within the story make this book stand out. Krauss recounts his career in football with humor, with touching sensitivity, and with frank honesty. From high school through his years in professional football, Krauss gives the reader a rare inside view of that world. As he says, he lived the life many dream about and he's appreciative of the experience.

I'm not an avid football fan, but this book pulled me into this life devoted to the team and the game. I felt the tug of the ups and downs players and fans rejoice in and suffer from. The highlight of the book, of course, is Krauss' recounting of his years playing for Paul "Bear" Bryant on the University of Alabama football team. The climax is the one play-- the Goal Line Stand, on January 1, 1979, in the Sugar Bowl game against Penn State--where Krauss stopped Penn State's Mike Gunman from scoring. Football enthusiasts will enjoy Krauss' description of the play that stopped time. While reading that section, I felt the crack of helmets and came away with a better understanding of football fanatics.... (reviewed by Lou Belcher, freelance writer and editor)

A thoroughly enjoyable and motivating read. This is a remarkable collection of exclusive interviews with the best American sports coaches of the last 40 years. The author has packed a voluminous amount of wisdom, inspiration and facts into what amounts to a road map to a good life. "How to Succeed in the Game of Life" is a brilliant compilation of advice that offers inspiration at every turn.

Game of Life is an insightful book on the thoughts of many of the world's best known coaches. It provides a biography on each of the 34 coaches (which I recommend reading first to gain a better appreciation of the field and achievements of each coach) and asks them a number of questions that can relate to both on the field and life in general. I have gathered a number of relavant quotes that I will use both personally and professionally. A highly recommended read for sporting buffs and managers.

After buying a copy of this book for both myself and my father I was thoroughly impressed. The book was both an easy read yet very informative. I gave a copy of the book to my father, who is not one to read a book, and he was so taken back by how interesting he felt the content was. He picked up the book in the morning and had it finished by mid afternoon. He must have called me 15 times to tell me how inspiring he felt it was and how he was amazed at "all the tricks it taught an old dog"...He thought he had heard all there was to hear about inspirational quotes. We were both pleasantly surprised with how well written the book was. Both my dad and I would highly recommend this book with two thumbs up.

Having read only excerpts, I was shocked to read that Tony Dungy was hired as head coach by the Indianapolis Colts in 2002 by owner Robert Irsay. Irsay had been dead for five years (longer than that mentally). Hopefully the rest of the book does not contain such shoddy information.

Lots of Good Advice--Inspirational

Review Date: 2008-03-20
This book went through various questions about succeeding in life and listed all the responses from each coach. It was interesting but somewhat repetitive in that many said basically the same thing. I enjoyed reading this book because it had a lot of good advice from a lot of successful coaches. The advice I remember most is to work harder than anyone else, never quit, always be honest, do your best, failure is opportunity for a comeback, and be passionate about what you do. All of them agreed that making a lot of money does not mean you are successful, but money can be a by-product of being successful. The last chapter included short summaries about each coach. My favorite chapter was the one of their favorite quotes.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in philosophy, or who is looking for some advice or inspiration about success.

Another Knight Has Been Heard From

Review Date: 2007-11-24
Most people when they hear the name Knight think of former Indiana coach Bob Knight. Now Dawn Knight (no relation)has written a wonderfully researched and informative book about George Taliaferro. Taliaferro was the catalyst of Indiana University's only undefeated football team in 1945. As an African American in Bloomington, Indiana he faced numerous obstacles and through his own effort and support from President Herman B Wells, coach Bo McMillin, and numerous teammates Taliaferro not only led his team to a Big Ten Championship but opened doors to members of his race that were even more important. Knight chronicles Taliferros' life through professional football and his post football years in academia. Readers interested in Indiana University, football, civil rights, and the American dream will enjoy this book.

"All sickness ain't death", "May our complacency disturb us profoundly today", "Don't be damned, be something important" - Taliaferro's perspective on getting through and facing life's unjust challenges is the true inspiration of this story. Football serves as the catalyst and gives Knight's story an adrenaline rushed perspective into the development of America's new great past-time. I recommend this book to any football fan, as well as anyone seeking a good inspirational story about facing life's obstacles with integrity and even a little humor.

The plastic license plate frame I ordered looks good, is light weight and I am happy with it's appearance. The shipping/handling charges for a three dollar item are ridiculous. Ten dollars for shipping a plastic plate frame is exhorbitant.
