I purchased the Art of Modern Rock online for my son and his wife for Christmas. I usually have a difficult time finding a gift I think they will like. They have a rock band themselves, and my daughter-in-law is also interested in art, so I gave this book a try. Not only did they love it, but they are in it! I wish now that I had opened it and looked through it before I mailed it to them. I was pleased with the book, and the service from Amazon is always excellent!

I'm not going 2 write a long drawn out review b/c anyone who's read Mrs. Santiago's work knows how she get down. This book is great. I read "Little Ghetto Girl" first and have been hooked on Mrs. Santiago's work every sense. Grindin is an excellent read and kind of a continuation from "Little Ghetto Girl" it gives past readers a chance 2 revisit Kisa Kane. If you haven't read any of her books, pick this one up, I promise you'll love it.

Meet Kennedy, she's beautiful, multi-talented, family oriented, and a hustler. She's out there on the grind trying to take care of her family and secure her future. She faces a lost that sends her life into another direction, and she's forced to grind harder.
As she gets deeper into her hustle, she unexpectedly meets Chaz. Chaz is a man who will forever change her life. He understands her grinding mentality and together they have an unmistakenable chemistry. They find themselves falling head over heels for one another.
In between their evolving relationship, chaos tries to drive a wedge between them. Chaz's crazy baby mama tries to stake her claim on him, but Kennedy's not having that. His baby mama underestimates her, and Kennedy let's her know what's up. A wound from an earlier lost opens up and is linked to a current situation that Kennedy hides for everyone.
Take a ride with Kennedy and you'll witness the true meaning of gridin for the sake of loyalty, trust, and family. Danielle Santiago gives you a well illustrated portait of the definition of grindin.

I was sleeping on this book for a very long time, this book was so good, I could not believe there wasn't one dull moment in the book, the plot was thought out and flowed smoothly, characters were described and developed well, and the story had a unique grind of it's own. Danielle Santiago you deserve those 5 stars, because you know you was Grindin when you wrote this one, and I'm get on my grind and anxiously wait for the next one!!

Bought this book today and it's already become my 7 month old daughter's favorite! She loves the illustrations, the SUPER FUN WORDS, and of course the music and lights!
The music is a little loud, however, it turns off after one round of the music so it's not bad at all.
It's one of the most enjoyable books we have! I will have no issues reading this book to her over and over again!!!
Definitely a must-have for any book collection - it's quite unique!
Fun to read and soothing to my baby's ears!

We've been reading to my 5-month old son since he was born and "You're My Little Love Bug" is by far his favorite! He is mesmerized by the beautiful music and reading the words in rhythm with the tune makes it fun to read. I had to buy a second copy since it's such a hit with my mother-in-law...she "stole" our copy and I needed one for our house! :) I highly recommend this book, it's a beautiful keepsake that will be cherished by both child and parent.

This book is just superb! And I mean- SUPERB!!!!!!!!!Poetic, funny, acerbic- and so full of wisdom. I like his style- so irreverent and so deep at the same time. I will reread it often and will give it around.
I strongly recommend it- you got the point, right?
I met Eryk Hanut once- many years ago. I attended an opening for his artwork in Virginia Beach. I was with a friend (who was already sick and has died since)who admired and praised one of Mr. Hanut's Art pieces . She told him so and joked that she couldn't afford it; He left us and came back with the framed photograph that he had just took off the wall- and gave it to my friend. That's the kind of man he is.
Long live authors of his talent and originality!

My 7 1/2 yr old 2nd grade daughter & I read Stellaluna off her summer reading list. I had heard of/seen this book around, but it had never grabbed me. I was quite surprized at the fabulous illustrations, the story that draws you in, & the author's ability to make a bat lovable. I was eager to read Verdi, expecting the same experience. I thought the story was OK & the illustrations beautiful, but the story itself lacked depth to me. The young whippersnapper & wise old sage qualities hit me as being more relevant to an adult reader. Children can not adequately appreciate the age contrast, & how quickly time passes, & how we all become more boring & old than our young minds thought we would. Curiously, my daughter liked Verdi as well, if not better than Stellaluna. To each his own - read & see what you think.

This is a wonderfully written story of a young python, a young yellow python, who does not want to grow old a boring like the adult green pythons he see around him. The art work in this slender book is absolutely breath taking. The artist has blended his colors perfectly and created life like studies of these wonderful snakes but not life like situations as far as the snake world goes. This is the charm of the story. Few, if any, want to actually grow older and kids in particular do not want to do and act as "boring" adults. This tale lets the child know that we all can keep our child like wonder and love of fun into our adult years. I read this one to the second and third graders and they catch the meaning of the story quite well with a bit of prompting. They love the pictures, in particular the ones where the author has made the snakes rather hard to spot. I also not that this is one of the more popular books chosen by the children when they have their "read alone time." An endorsement of a children by children is as about as good as it gets. I must say though, adults will enjoy reading this with the children also which I feel is important as kids can sort of sense when your heart is not really in the reading. Recommend this one highly. Very much recommend you add this one to your child's collection or to your school library.

Amazon as usual was able to give me this beautiful Qur'an that honestly is the best interpretation I have ever read. Though rare, this translation has been touted as the best english approximation to the Arabic that has been written. I have to agree. Even the pages are decoratated with beautiful calligraphy that truly accentuates the already present beauty within the pages of this translation. I am very excited to be reading it. Thank You and God Bless!!

This explanation of the Qur'an provides clarification of a religion which has been portrayed very poorly on the media, or better yet, of which the media is extremely afraid of. This commentary of the Qur'an elucidates that Islam is a religion of peace and mercy, unlike the way it is portrayed on the media. After all, news media's motto is: "If it bleeds, it leads." Mohammad Asad, an Austrian Jewish convert to Islam, is a perfect example to show that the arms of Islam are open to embrace people of any religion or race. In fact, just like in the case of Asad, the doors of Islam are open to those converts to reach the highest spiritual and intellectual positions in Islam, such as becoming Islamic scholars who are regarded as the inheritors of the prophets, according to one tradition of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This is the seventh time I have read the Qur'an all the way through and this is the most enjoyable translation I have ever read. The book is printed in Bahrain and is beautifully printed with pages 8 1/2 x 11 in size on heavy glossy paper. It has plenty of white space to make notes and everything is in readable type.
Muhammed Asad's translation is a gentle not in your face translation. While there are Briticisms [words not normally found in American speech] and English spellings, most words are not difficult to make out. I am impresed that everytime I have a question about what I've read, there is a note to clarify for those not familiar with Islam tradition.
I consider this to be a wonderful addition to my library.

This is the greatest translation of The Holy Quran in English. It is complete for it contains the meaning, the Romanized form of the Quran, and it is also in Arabic. Make no mistake this is an authoritative translation of The Holy Quran for the English reader and you will not be disappointed. The paper on which it is written is nice and one of the best that I have held. Just get it for what you are getting is the closest thing that man can get to GOD. For those who are unable to afford Asad translation there is a website, it is www.geocities.com/masad02/ be warned sometimes the daily bandwidth is reached so it becomes inaccessible.

Just a short review as others have expressed better than I the unsurpassed job of interpretation of the Holy Qur'an into English which Asad was able to achieve - his interpretation and footnotes are far, far better than any before.
The layout of the book is also a gift to those who are learning Qur'anic Arabic: with English, Arabic, and a transliteration on one page (along with the all-enompassing guide to pronouncing the transliteration) Asad has provided a powerful tool to those who are students of Arabic.
A wonderful, wonderful work. The best interpretation of the Holy Qur'an in English that I've read, and a book of beauty printed on fine paper and with exceptional typography. This should be the standard text for all English speaking Muslims as well as any English speaking person desiring to raed the Qur'an in the very best interpretation.
My only complaint, and the reason I 'deducted' a star, is that the book with its fine heavy paper does not have a proper heavy-duty binding. After 2 or 3 weeks I had to have my copy re-bound as the cover began to tear off and the signatures began to break the stitching. I would hope that in subsequent editions the publishers would provide a better binding so that this text would not unravel after a short period of heavy use,

This is an excellent book. It is written in a warm and caring manner which is easy to understand. It is full of information not just for anyone dealing with a dementia patient, but for anybody who is caring for another person, (or who may think at some point they will). It covers subjects which apply to the caring of anyone who is ill and/or elderly, even if it is not dementia. I would recommend this book to anyone, before they are faced with the illness. I wish I'd read it sooner, but better late than never. Absolutely a great book, it should be in every library. I plan to buy 2 copies for my library, I will definitely NOT donate mine. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Full of detail about the disease, this book also takes it a step further, providing very practical information on care giving, making a home / care giving setting a safe place, and, frankly, providing suggestions for periodic care giving to the care giver. Throughout the several editions, I have come to recommend, loan, give, patients and care givers this book perhaps 50 times or more, and, every time I hear the same thing - "what a helpful, fantastic book!". Published by Johns Hopkins and holding a 95% 5 star rating on Amazon, it's unbeatable. it's 600 pages long. that might, at first blush, seem like a lot to read. none of us who give care to others can set aside 10 to 60 hours (depending on your reading speed) right away to read it all and made sense of it all. Take your time. It's not a race to get through it - it's a race to understand the contents - take your time and begin to put into practice an additional suggestion each day. This book is a labor of love and is worth the price, used, new, and way more (oh no - don't tell Johns Hopkins that or they'll start charging us a lot more!!). Best of luck, and be sure to find for yourself a support group in your community or on-line.

My mother has been diagnosed with dementia, probably Alzheimer's, and I have been seeking information to help me understand and deal with her deteriorating mental capabilities. This book provided great examples of what to expect, what others have gone through, and how to deal with some of the more difficult issues. It was recommended to me by a geriatric case manager, and I highly recommend it to others.
36-Hour Day - Very helpful and enlightening

I appreciate what the authors put together in this book - it has a ton of useful info and has helped me in understanding (and thus adding alittle patience) to what is happening with several senior members of my family.
Not all the info is relevant to my needs, but that's the point, not everyone has the same issues to deal with.
Thanks!

It was a fun book, the first one Marco, his jokes are just soo funny, another reason why I read these books, no matter how bad they get in trouble or how hurt someone is he can always make you laugh. I likes when he beat up those muggers with his gorilla morph.
Good, good, good

I like this book a lot. The best Animorphs book I've read. Right after I read it, I swore to myself that I would always read Marco books. (He's an Animorphs character.)

Marco never wanted to be an Animorph. He never wanted to risk his life saving the world with his animal-morphing powers. He knew that if he died, his father would go insane--since both his son and wife would be gone forever. Now, the two year anniversary of Marco's mother's death is coming, and Marco is nervous. And after a dangerous mission that almost got he, Jake, and Ax killed, Marco decides to quit.
But before he quits, Marco decides to go on one last mission to steal a Yeerk ship from Visser Three so Ax can use it to return to the Andalite planet. However, the kids' plan goes terribly wrong and they end up trapped. But while everyone else worries how to escape, Marco is shocked when learning a terrible secret. Now, he has a reason to fight the Yeerks. And no matter what it takes, he'll kick butt.
THE PREADTOR contains one of the most shocking secrets in the Animorphs series. And this is definitely one of the best Marco books. Although it was a great read, I had a problem with this book. The first half of the novel was about the Animorphs' adventure at the mall with Ax who keeps running away. Even though it was funny, I would've preferred more Marco dealing with the secret.

In this fifth installment of the popular sci-fi series, Marco and the other Animorphs attempt to help their alien friend Ax return to his homeworld, only to make a shocking discovery that forever alters Marco's attitude toward their cause. For sequel see "The Capture."

My 81 year old mother just adores Jan Karon's novels and was thrilled when I purchased the Mitford Cookbook from Amazon for her for Mother's Day in 2008. It is a beautifully designed book offering so much more than recipes - almost a devotional or coffee table book. Anyone who loves Jan Karon's books will find something worth reading in this delightful book - if you buy it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Regards Glenda, South Australia.

Jan Karon's Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader is the icing on the Orange Marmalade Cake! The recipes follow the southern cooking tradition and there are lots of entertaining personal notes and side stories from the author. The recipes are connected through book excerpts and the particular book and chapter are referenced. It was a fun way to review and remember the entire Mitford series. I recommend it as a must-have companion to the series. Polly

As a dedicated reader of Jan Karon's books, I had to buy Jan Karon's Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader: Recipes from Mitford Cooks, Favorite Tales from Mitford Books (Mitford) as soon as it was available.
During a lonely time in my life, I listened to the audio versions of Karon's books. The Mitford community became another one of my communities, and the families of Mitford became part of my extended family.
I listened carefully to get the ingredients of the Orange Marmalade Cake. Then the cookbook appeared! Also there are all of Father Tim's recipes and Puny's food. Besides the Orange Marmalade Cake, I cannot select what comes in second. There are too many great choices, such as Emma's Pound Cake, the Rector's Meatloaf, and Louella's Buttermilk Chess Pie.
The vignettes are inspiring and entertaining. It is fun to recall the folks in the novels.
Jan Karon's food, like her writing, is comforting. She can use spice when she wishes, but most of her writing makes me feel calmer. Some of her recipes require more spice when I prepare them. This is probably a regional difference. In Louisiana, we like our food hotter than our weather. Therefore, I find it necessary to make a few adjustments.
There's no meat or vegetable recipe here that cannot be fixed by a little Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning 8oz.
This is a beautiful book, and I'm thrilled to have it.

I great book, over looking Schulz's body of work, as well as bits about his life and quotes from the man himself. Kidd's design is the perfect showcase for the art. This is a book you never really finish reading, cause you always come back to it again and again.

This is my first Peanuts hardback, and it's already taken a special spot in my heart. I've been a Peanuts fan from my childhood, and this book gives a glimpse not just into the history of the strip, but also into the history of the creator of the strip. As I understand it, in this book are never-before-seen examples of Mr. Schulz's sketchpads. Some that were never published before in their raw, unfinished form.
Throughout this beautifully bound book are pages that chronicle "Sparky's" life and career -- childhood photos of his family, his page in his high school yearbook, his sketchpad from his time in the Army, various pictures of his first strip "Li'l Folks"... the list goes on. There are also pages here and there showing some of the Peanuts collectibles such as slateboards, games, comic books, ViewMaster reels, and figurines etc. And of course, this 336 page book is full of Peanuts strips --in black & white and in color-- taking you through the years in your memories.
Also included is a touching introduction written by his wife, Jean Schulz, and his 'signature' on the inside cover. If you are a Peanuts fan, you won't be disappointed with this book.
