This book is chock full of information about the "Beginning" of modern improv. It's an excellent story well told. It reminds me of a story I know about sheetrock.

This book is pinnacle to your success as an improvisor. Understanding the evolution of improvisation as well as the tried and true tactics are mandatory to being a good performer. Please do not hesitate. You will never forgive yourself! Really! This is endorsed by really big improvisors. Also see "Truth in Comedy" by Del Close and Charna Halpern! Truth in Comedy is also a great book that will open your little "short-form" mind to a "long-form" world!

Everything i had hoped for when i first saw it... a thorough introduction to the sports psychology of ice hockey, though it could certainly be applied to any sport or any competitive performance endeavor. this book allowed me to really improve several things i have been working on - productive visualization, mental preparation for games, and controlling destructive emotions like frustration and apprehension. it's a well written book with tons of examples and stories from NHL and other players. i had to write all over it, too, which is always a sign of something i really use. i plan to continue rereading it and integrating the techniques into my play and development. in addition to the main part, there are special chapters on offense and scoring, playing d, playing goal, and rehab. good stuff. like i said, i think this book is a major positive addition to anyone's training program.

This is a very readable book with some excellent mental coaching tips. It describes a number of techniques for managing emotions and using power thinking and imagery that I have found to be very useful. I liked the chapters on a winning attitude and what it takes "to make it" in the NHL. I thought they offered some practical suggestions to build confidence, and mental toughness. The strength of the book for me is that it is very practical. There are lots of excellent stories and examples that illustrate the author's experience and techniques. And I like how he relates his observations and advice to what many NHL players and coaches have to say about their mental game. I would recommend it to any hockey player or coach.

Although I am one of the people interviewed in the book, reading about all the other people interviewed, and how they contribute to society, really inspires me.
I enjoy helping others to do more with their life, and I think this book really gets that message across. This book helped me to realize that there are others who like to help inspire.

Marijean Levering has done an excellent job giving a history and understanding of this historic Detroit Players Club. The book is well-researched and is more thorough and accurate that anyone would ever expect an outsider to be able to write. If the book has any fault, it is that at 292 pages, her book only scratches the surface of the stories that could be told of this famous mens theater club.

" Detroit on Stage " is not only a history of the Player's Club in Detroit, but also includes other Theater Clubs. It is interesting because it also gives a history of Detroit during the period of 1910-2005. It includes some Prominent Members with interesting facts of their lives, like Edsel Ford asking his Father Henry Ford for money to pay his dues to the Players Club. This book is easy reading, well organized, Indexed and gives the history of Prominent Members of the Players Club.

"Diamonds in the Coalfields" is a documentary of life in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. William Kashatus has done an excellent job of organizing the history of the mining communities, from a perspective of how baseball affected everyone's lives in those happy, glorious years. You can get an estimate of his effort by looking at his detailed reference notes and bibliography at the back of the book. He has devoted a huge amount of time in research and interviews in the writing of this book.
The accuracy of his descriptions is uncanny, for a person who did not "live it", except vicariously, through the eyes of others. My father pitched for the Glen Lyon Condors, in the 1920's. I lived through the era of Zig Najaka, Stan Pawloski, and Bob Duliba, at Newport Twp. High School. This is a personalized view of early baseball history, a meaningful picture for all baseball fans. My complments to William Kashatus for giving us such an accurate picture of those happy times in our lives. He has done a great job of documentation with an entertaining accent to this portrayal of life in the coal towns. I am purchasing additional books for my uncle, brother-in-law, and three sons, who also share an interest in the nostalgia for sports in the Wyoming Valley. (Pennsylvnia)

Ian Browne, who so ably chronicles the Red Sox for mlb.com, has provided us with a wonderful inside look at one of the most compelling stories from the team's 2007 season. In describing the acquisition and first season of Japanese pitching star Daisuke Matsuzaka, he gives us a clear picture of the business decision making process that brought Dice-K to the team and then thoughtfully interweaves vignettes focusing on cultural diversity, team-building, and the road to a World Series championship. The book is far more than an expanded internet column. Even for those of us who follow the Red Sox all season, this book is a nail-biter. It should provide reading pleasure to both baseball lovers and others interested in the interfaces among business, sports, and intercultural challenges.

There are some players who produce seasons that transcend mere success or failure, and Daisuke Matsuzaka was one of them in 2007. Fortunately, Ian Browne was able to expertly chronicle what became a rivoting story within a story. The book is thorough, insightful and entertaining, more than doing justice to a year-long drama no baseball fan will soon forget.

Steve Teel, author, is a really down to earth spiritual man. He is a good author and a great speaker. I enjoyed this book so much. It was an easy read. Not complicated, and you can relate to all aspects of the story. I hope he continues to write these fictional based, spiritual books. I have passed this book onto my 12 year old son. I believe he will really enjoy it.
