At the time I am writing this, all of the books except #6 and #7 are available for 1 cent:
1. Dad and Sam (188794267X)
2. Ann's Hat (1887942688)
3. Sam and the Mitt (1887942696)
4. Pom Pom (188794270X)
5. The Big Log (1887942718)
6. Mutt and Pup (B000APFN2K), 45 cents
7. Pig Fun (B000APL6CG), 47 cents
8. Ann's Big Muffin (1887942742)
9. Tim the Truck (1887942750)
10. Kim Kangaroo (1887942769)
This series is a supplement of another series, entitled the Hop Book series.
There are more lines of text on each page than in the Hop Book series.
I would like this series better if each book were confined to rhyming (bat, cat, rat) or alliterating (can, fan, man) words. Such a series would comply with Piaget's finding that younger children can focus on only one variable at a time.
If you find such a series, please write back.

Review from my experience

I was totally intrigued the first time I came across a copy of the Any Game Cookbook -- Recipes for Spiritual Gaming. The exercises offered in it sounded really interesting and I loved it that they were to be done during ordinary game play, using any game, any table top game. I soon got a group of friends together and we started to test it out.
I liked the fact that the book does not define "spiritual" for you and it does not tell you what results to expect from doing any of the exercises. This leaves it completely open to one's own experience and perceptions. Lots of illustrations make it visually fun to look through, and the over 70 recipes (exercises) are easy to understand -- and very potent.
Closet spiritual adventurers will be happy to hear that some of the exercises can be done without anyone being the wiser -- they won't know you are doing anything other than just playing the game. Other exercises are obvious and/or require the
cooperation of the other players. All of the recipes are pg rated. In fact, there are some exercises that even small children can do.
Our small group of spiritual gamers found that sometimes the layers, realisations and effects of the exercises changed after several rounds using the same exercise. Sometimes they just deepened the initial direction, and at times the very nature of the effect changed with continued application. Sometimes we shared similar insights and experiences, sometimes the effects on each of us were quite different.
And all of this while having fun playing a game, any old game. We chose a very simple child's board game. Alas, when concentrating on the recipes, there were times that this kid's game became quite a challenge. And every so often we'd get totally lost in it, until remembering, or being reminded, of the exercise we intended to do.
It is so much fun, and for me, the combination of simple game play along with the exercises had an unexpected healing effect. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Tragedy Teaches Us Something About Life

I read these works for a graduate seminar on Aristotle.
Poetry appeals to human passions and emotions. Powerful beautiful language and metaphor really appeal to emotion. This idea really disturbed Plato, who takes on Homer in the Republic. Plato thought that early Greek poetry portrays a dark world; humans are checked by negative limits like death. Tragedy has in it a character of high status brought down through no fault of his own. Plato says this is unjust. Republic is about ethical life and justice. It starts with the premises that might makes right and then moves onto the idea much like modern religions that justice comes in the afterlife. Plato hates the idea that in tragedy bad things can happen to good people. He wanted to ban tragedy because he found it demoralizing.
Aristotle's Poetics is a defense against Plato's appeal to ban tragedy. Tragedy was very popular in Greek world so Aristotle asks can it be wrong to ban it? Yes, it is wrong thus he decides to study it. Plato says Poetry is not a technç because the poets are divinely inspired. Aristotle disagrees Poetics is a handbook for playwrights. Mimçsis= "representation or imitation." Plato uses it in speaking of painting, thus art is imitation. Another meaning is to mimic, like actors mimicking another person. Plato and Aristotle use it to mean psychological identification like how we get absorbed in a movie as if the action were real, eliciting emotions from us. We suspend reality for a while. Aristotle says this is natural in humans; we do this as children, we mimic. If imitation is important for humans then tragic poetry is worthwhile for Aristotle to study.
Definition of tragedy- "Through pity and fear it achieves purification from such feelings. This is a famous controversial line. Katharsis= "pity and fear" thus the purpose of tragedy is to purge katharsis. Katharsis can also mean purification or clean. There is a debate if it means clarification, through which we can come to understand katharsis. Aristotle thinks tragedy teaches us something about life. Tragedy is an elaboration on Aristotle's idea that good or virtuous people sometimes get unlucky and in the end, they get screwed. Tragedy shows this so we can learn to get by when life screws us. The whole point of tragedy is action over character. Action is the full story of the poem like the Iliad. Character is only part of the action.
Aristotle distinguishes between poetry and history. Poetry is concerned with universals, history is concerned with particulars.
I recommend Aristotle's works to anyone interested in obtaining a classical education, and those interested in philosophy. Aristotle is one of the most important philosophers and the standard that all others must be judged by.

From someone who lives in a border city, I would say that everything found in this novel is true...life on the border between Mexico and the United States is not known by many, but be assured that this novel will reveal many of the conflicts and enticing threats that can seduce the vulnerable youth into a life that offers nothing but the fast exhaustion of their youthful vigor.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone living in a border city and even more to the people from other states who are planning on settling in a border town in order for them to become aware of these problems through reading and not through harsh experience.

After reading this book, I was able to do the simple, yet profound exercises that have a direct bearing on how we believe and what we believe about ourselves. This book is all about getting into integrity with yourself and honoring yourself for the god/goddess within, and knowing that we have all the answers and wisdom within us.

This is the personal narrative written as a running commentary of one soldier in one platoon, of one company of a Tank Destroyer Battalion in World War Two. It states some of the emotions felt and phisical trials endured in a combat outfit.
It shows some of the bordom, frustration, and the fear. It shows the heat, cold, rain, snow, and the mud, and how the soldiers coped.
And it shows the courage, heorism, and bravery.
