This sheet music book contains Star Wars music scores, written in arrangements that are not too hard for advanced beginner students. The CD it comes with is great. My son has been listening to it non stop and although he has not mastered the music himself, he's becoming familiar with it every day. Great Buy.

I know this book is considered a classic loved by most but i found it to be a big let down. its not that i consider it just a kids book or have a low opinion of stevenson, i think treasure island is one of the best adventure stories ever written. kidnapped falls somewhat flat in comparison. the story is simple and gets repetitive with david balfour essentially running through the highlands with Alan (whom i found it be a very annoying character) for half the book. at times it looked like i was reading a bad version of the count of monte cristo (a much better book)but instead of adversity creating a cunning mature man hell-bent on a meticulously planned revenge we get a snot nosed little kid who has a very low opion of 'highland savages'. the only part of the book i found exciting was when he was held captive on the ship and that was too much a of repeat of treasure island for comfort. also stevenson always seemed to be writing something that was geared for popular cosumption and while this works in his other works it didnt seem to work for me here. of course he was no charles dickens but i thought books like dr j and hyde to be far more in depth look at society, greed, and desire in general.

Oh, what a great book! Robert Louis Stevenson strikes a perfect balance between action and description.
As previous reviews have said much about the plot and the worth of reading this wonderful book, I will add just a bit. Buy a copy of this tale for any child aged ten or older, and they'll have a story of adventure to read over and over again as they grow up! I guarantee it will be a work they'll remember with great fondness. And do yourself a favor and read a tale of intrigue that only Stevenson could have written. This is definitely not just a book for children and teens!
For those who have difficulty with the Scottish terms, in the Scholastic Classics paperback edition there is a full glossary in back, and I found not one word missing from it.

I am a big fan of Robert Louis Stevenson as opposed to Charles Dickens or something like that. His books have a reasonable length and they are full of adventure and easy to follow.
This book had a fairly simple premise and was not as exciting or memorable as Treasure Island and not as fascinating as the Dr. Jekyll ad Mr Hyde narrative, but it was good and simple. I remember this book as a kid, maybe in fourth grade that when he was in the brig and shipwrecked, and headed for slavery I stopped reading because I thought it was all to dark.
But this time around I found the tale a bit more amusing. I guess a lot of this story is a story about finding maturity through hardship. Its hard for me to say that it's a coming of age story as I read somewhere. The moral of the story is not so clear, since the character doesn't really mature too much in terms of voice or role relative to Uncle or Alan. Instead his hardship, sort of grants him some reasonable part of his inheritance, but nothing to great, just something to live a normal life by.
I liked this book. It took me only about 5 or six hours to read the entire book. It never got overbearing and it realised what it was for.

Being of the rhythm and blues generation I grew up listening to the blues and gospel music. I remember the "down home blues" back then also. Derrick's book describes the history of hip-hop and rap music in a way that help me to appreciate the artists and their skills. However, I remember when hip-hop went from positive to negative, causing a sense of being disrespected by some of the lyrics of the songs.
This book is a "must read", test your knowledge about hip-hop music and its culture.

This book is just ok. I've seen better. The content is dense and may be useful for a reference for accountants - which I'm not. I tried to sell it but no one will take it even as just a year old. I'd rather Google the things I'll need than to try to intrepret it from this book.

Wow, Buyer beware.
The DVD does NOT come with this book.
The DVD promoted on Roman numeral page v as free with the book does NOT come with the book and CANNOT be obtained.
the good folks at Amazon were blindsided by the publishers.
The publisher blew me off like dandruff on a dark suit when I requested the DVD. I even faxed the page out of the book that boasts about the DVD.
Wow, Buyer beware. You will never get the DVD promoted as free with book.
But if you are willing to pay extra $$$ you might get some secret special on-line help. But hey, wasn't I promised, written in the book, a free DVD?
Oh yeah, well they lied about that. Just cough up more than you paid for the book and they will give you on-line support, promise.
Fool me once.

I was watching a interview about this book on a news segment and I was very interested in reading Across the Line. However, now I am apprehensive about purchasing this book. I would like to point out a fact the author referred to in his book that I am finding to be untrue. When the author was telling about the Auburn player no. 31 (I didn't catch the player's name), and how the player unfortunately jumped out of a window to his death from a 13th story dorm at Auburn University. I am an Auburn University graduate and I know Auburn has never had a 13 story dorm. In fact, the "skyscraper" of Lee County, Alabama (as of 1999) was the 9 story building of Haley Center on Auburn's Campus, and indeed it is not a dormitory, but rather the home of many colleges such as the college of education, political science, psychology, etc.
I find it disrespectful to this Auburn player to have his death remembered incorrectly in a book that is supposed discuss his struggles and the struggles of others trying to break "across the line" in college basketball. Also, it makes me wonder what other information/facts is incorrect in this book.

One of the most important "sports" books you'll ever read. The stories of the student-athletes who crossed the color line at southern universities are remarkable, particularly given that most of their experiences are only a generation or so old. The book is incredibly well-researched; unfortunately, the same can't be said for another review on this site. The Auburn player who committed suicide was Henry Harris, and the author explains that he did so two years after he left the school. He did not jump out of a dorm-room window. If you are going to accuse someone of getting the facts wrong on a public forum, be very sure you have at least read what they have written and can prove a factual error. If you care about civil rights, history, and/or the culture of American sports, this book tells invaluable and untold stories.

Marvin Kitman has done a masterful job of giving us a different outlook on the Revolutionary War. When George Washington was made General of the Armies, congress offered him a salary but Washington nobly declined and instead requested that they only pay his expenses. The actual journal of his expenses are included in this book and then many journal entries are humorously interrupted by Kitman. Needless to say at war's end, the country would have been better off paying Washington a salary. Congress didn't make the same mistake when Washington became president and made the same offer. This book is easy and light reading and shows how ,in Kitman's words, George Washington became the father of the American expense account.
Worthless as a Continental

Did anyone ever hear the term "Worthless as a Continental". It refers to the Continental Dollar, which was, at that time, so inflated it was practically worthless. What may have sounded like a lavish feast would have cost unbelievable amounts of this worthless currency. If they had McDonald's back then, a Big Mac probably would have cost at least a $100.00. A horse cost thousands of dollars. Many merchants wouldn't even except it. You needed bushel baskets full of the stuff to buy anything of importance. When Washington submitted his expense account to Congress, the problem still existed. It wasn't until Washington was President and Alexander Hamilton fixed this problem that the dollar was worth anything.
The American Revolution lasted eight years, the equivalent of two presidential terms! Given the value of the Continental, using it for that length of time would definitely create one hell of a bill. I'm just surprised the expense account wasn't bigger.
The author must be one of those "Deconstructionists" that like to paint all of American History as a cynical lie.
This is recommended reading to those who revel in anti-American mythology and half truths.

Was George Washington first in war; first in peace; and first in discovering the joys of an unlimited expense account? Hint: Generals earned $166 per month. At the end of 8 years of war George Washington presented an expense account of $499,261.51. That was when a dollar was a continental. Washington included interest for money he loaned himself and depreciation. He later offered to work only for expenses as president and got a salary in stead.
