Zane Grey's Open Range is a colorful, action/adventure western novel of a youth on his journey to manhood. Set in the rugged open range of the old American Southwest, our strong-hearted hero finds himself pitted against an unscrupulous family, and only a valley filled with prized wild horses can tip the balance against them and for him. Open Range is enthusiastically recommended reading for the legions of Zane Grey fans.

A NICE RETELLING OF A WONDERFUL TALE.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.

This is a children's editon, for younger readers, of the old tale "Wind in the Willows." The author, Stacy Leach has actually done quite a nice job with this one. I usually do not like the retelling of classics such as this, but in this case the job was done quite well. The illustrations by Holly Hannon are first rate, as a matter of fact they are quite enjoyable. This is a great read along book to have for the kids. Toad, Rat, Mole, et al, are as charming as ever. Recommend this one highly.

Nostalgic overview of the auto and American life
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-17
Lavishly illustrated with archival photos, this book tells the story of the American love affair with the auto -- and how the auto affected the way we all live. The book starts late in the 19th century and tells the story of the "good roads movement," which led to the development of federal funding for paved roads; the development of tourist attractions and the tourism infrastructure (motels, gas stations, etc.); the growth of the family vacation; and many other things that have resulted from the American car culture. An interesting social history, with excellent photographs.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and it's best to take your time when touring there. Morris provides those visiting the Eternal City with an in-depth perspective that you can't typically find in most travel books. If you're looking for well-written and truly insightful guide into one of the world's great cities, the Rome Guide will not disappoint.

Great chapter of walking tours!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-05
I love the walking tours of Paris in this book. This book has seven walks with easy street by street directions. There's an Islands Walk that takes you to Notre Dame and the Deportation Memorial (but my favorite part is past the pet market). The Left Bank Walk takes you down Boulevard St-Germain (but the highlight for me is the place Furstenburg, a scenic hidden square that's been in tons of films). The Marais Walk hits the antique shops in Village St-Paul and the beautiful place des Vosges. The Major Sights walk is perfect if you only have a little time in Paris because it hits the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysees. There's a Montmartre Walk past the Basilica Sacre Coure and the restaurant that was featured in the movie Amelie. And there's also a Culinary Walk (with some of the best food shops and markets in Paris) and a Da Vinci Code Walk (that takes you to the places featured in the book and movie). All the walks have color maps and color photos to help you along. A great way to experience Paris!

Provence Made Easy!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-03
This book really makes planning your trip to Provence easy. You can leave the heavy travel guides filled with more info than you'll ever need behind. It has a compact size, beautiful color photos and detailed color maps. Especially helpful are the day plans to Avignon, Arles, Nimes, and Aix. My favorite is the walk through the Old Town of Nice with street by street directions.

Great guide to plan your trip!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-15
I'm planning a summer trip to Spain and bought this book along with several others. I like the approach of this guide. Since we'll only have a short time in several cities, the weekend and day plans are really helpful in planning a visit. The book is full of color photos and the city maps are very good (more detailed than Fodors or Frommers and clearer than the hand-drawn maps in the Rick Steves book). Overall, a very helpful overview of Spain. My only complaint is that the Balearic Islands aren't included.

A GREAT BOOK IN EVERY RESPECT
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1997-01-26
This is truly a guide that lists everything you could possibly want to know about a golf course site unseen. I currently live in the tri-county area (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) of south-florida and have been very impressed by the accuracy of the information contained in this book. It has certainly helped me enjoy the sport by allowing me to choose a course for my type of play. Thank you Mr. Shacky
