excellent in depth coverage

Review Date: 2002-03-29
This book provides excellent coverage of recent developments in EU politics. The introduction is particularly worth reading as it gives a concise overview of the various schools of European studies - essential information for all those who do European studies and want to avoid falling into the trap of taking one author as knowing "the truth" about how the EU works.

In part 2 the political system of the EU is discussed in depth with references to recent changes and developments. Part 3 covers the main policy objectives of the Union (such as creating a European market or cohesion funds) while part 4 singles out important key issues (such as enlargement or European Monetary Union).

All in all this volume provides excellent and in-depth coverage of recent issues in the EU.

A thorough, well researched history of the Devil. I can't even begin to imagine combing through all of his sources--luckily I don't have to as he's done all the dirty work. Good reading too.

Accessible, Informative and a Compulsive Read.

Review Date: 2001-04-02
Read writes with a fluid style and clear structure which mean that "Disability, the Family and Society: Listening to Mothers" not only contributes to the academic body, but can also be appreciated by those outside the field. As a lay person, I found it not only accessible but fascinating. It is refreshing to think that disabled people and their families who are not academics can benefit from reading research which is often written about them, but not always for them. The accessibility of the style, however, does not come at the expense content. I found the case studies powerful. They were sensitively treated and worked well within the main body of the text. The testimonies clearly located the experiences of the mothers as the backbone of the book, from which Read introduces information about the sectors the mothers deal with in their negotiations between their child and the society in which they live. This is informative and a compulsive read. I recommend it highly.

One of the Schopenhauer's inspirations (especially in "On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of sufficient Reason") gives a classical perspective on the modern German thought. Wonderful!!!

This book is an excellent resource on Distance Education. This section provides a wealth of valuable information and guidelines. Part II presents some practical applications of Distance Education in various academic disciplines. These interesting illustrations serve as models for course development and provide further insights into the many practical considerations related to Distance Education, such as how to make online courses accessible to those with various disabilities, how online learning compares to face-to-face instruction from a cost-effectiveness standpoint, how to evaluate online courses, and how to encourage faculty participation in Distance Education programs. If you have wondered about any of these questions, then this is the book for you.
