An excellent book, which pays attention to an episode in history, that should not be forgotten. In simple words James Yates
makes clear the relationship between his struggle for civil rights in the US and his later contribution to the International
Brigades in Spain. Also his courage to go on with his activities after the Worldwar, as his pictures show, is impressive...

This book is one of the greatest books I bought at the time when I was in the US. Pete Seeger wrote about the book: This is
a great story, a great read, and has a great lesson to teach young Americans , black and white, of how you can be strongly
rooted in your home community and at the same time see a sense of kindship with working people around this whole world. The
battle to save the elected Loyalist government of Spain 50 years ago was the first battle in World War II. The Abraham Lincoln
Brigade and others may have lost a battle but they didn't lose the war, nor have lost it yet. Carry on! I want to send all
my respect to the members of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, your international solidarity which you showed in the battle against
the fascist Franco regime will never be forgotten, we will never forget you bright stars in the darkness.

Have you ever dreamed of getting on a horse and just hitting the trail? Especially if you've ever owned your own horse,
you'll love sharing the author's experiences. Lots of down to earth and funny stories of Miss Foss' and her sister's life
and travels; i highly recommend this book to anyone who shares a love of horses and adventure.

This is a marvelous book. One of the finest compliations of the (do they have a name?) - the poets who came after elliot,
biship, and pound, i.e merwin, bly, snyder . . . The thing that makes this book most valuable are the essay's contributed
by the poets themselves on the topic of free verse. I love it.

This book helped me out a lot in troubleshooting my networks and trying to figure out what was wrong with it. I had switches
and hubs cascaded too many times, bad network interface cards that were causing broadcast storms, i had a hacker that was
sitting on a pc he took control of. and i figure it all out with the book by RB. i was able to analyze each traffic segment
and immediately recognized what type of traffic was being sent across the network. i was even able to decipher spoofed ip
addresses created by the hacker. this book is amazing!
A great tool-oriented tour of network troubleshooting

I don't have a lot to say about "Network Performance Open Source Toolkit" (NPOST), other than I think it's excellent. We
need more tool-oriented books to teach admins how to do real work on their networks. NPOST delivers chapter after chapter
of practical, hands-on material applicable to the networking shop in any organization.
NPOST shines in three respects. First, the author ensures readers can properly install each tool he discusses. When dealing with open source tools, installation cannot be taken for granted. (The exception is using the FreeBSD operating system's "ports tree," which almost guarantees easy installation of any tool listed in the system.) Second, the author walks readers through the use of each tool, explaining what it does and how to best deploy it. Finally, readers are given mini-case studies demonstrating the use of each tool to solve real-world problems. This is just the sort of approach which helps readers understand the differences between network simulators and emulators, for example.
I found only a few minor issues. When providing command-line tcpdump options on pages 230 and 234, I believe the author should have passed a '-s 1514' option to change the default 68-byte snaplength to something more reasonable. I felt the FreeBSD kernel configuration advice in chapter 14 was insufficient, and didn't specify whether it applied to 4.x or 5.x FreeBSD systems. Last, the author's tcpdump command line for capturing FTP sessions on p. 230 will only capture "active" FTP sessions using port 20 TCP. It will miss any passive FTP data channels.

No matter which prospective college or university applied to, Wald's book will be a tremendous help in the writing of an application
essay. The book has a diverse set of actual essay examples written by students who have been either accepted or rejected to
different universities. Although the book has some tailoring (but not limited) to the University of California applicants,
it includes answers to the most frequently asked questions on application essays. The examples range from poorly written to
high quality essays with educated and detailed criticism. The book addresses common issues students face, such as what should
be or not be included in an essay (e.g., overcoming personal problems). It will prove effective for any school. A wise investment!

Marcie Wald has created an enormously helpful guide for the transfer essay writer. Though this book is aimed specifically
at, and will be most helpful to, transfer students in the California State system, the book contains plenty of excellent advice
for any high school- or college-level writer looking to improve their personal essay writing skills. Wald is particularly
effective at taking actual essays by tranfer applicants and offering step by step critique--much like a teacher might do in
a classroom--on how the writer should revise. The style of the book is conversational, never preachy, and the use of real
people's stories makes this text engaging and even moving.

This book is simply an outstanding example of what can be done in a well designed sailing dinghy like the British built
Wayfarer or the Canadian copy of the CL 16. This book is a wealth of information that can be referenced by any dinghy sailor
on the cottage lake or for those who dare poke their bows past the mouth of the harbour.

i'm sad to see no one else has reviewed this book, so though it's been a while since i read it & my copy is lost in storage
somewhere, i'll try to do this fine little story the justice it deserves: In this fast-reading autobiographical story our
author Frank, in his younger days, enlists a young naval student for an ambitious foul-weather sail from England to Iceland
in a 13' open dinghy. In the small but rich genre of dinghy cruising (which in the spirit modernity, i hereby rename "microcruising"),
this is a must read. adding to the charm is frank's occasional mention of his girlfriend Margaret, who he later married, and
who many years later wrote the bible of microcruising, the hugely instructional 'Dinghy Cruising'. Finally, if you like this
book it seems impossible you would not also like Robert Manry's "Tinkerbelle," the cleanly told story of a flatlander who
singlehands his dinghy from the US to England.

This Jung quote sums up the theme of this book:
"If there is something we cannot know, we must necessarily abandon it as an intellectual problem ... But if an idea about it is offered to me - in dreams or in mythic traditions - I ought to take note of it. I even ought to build up a conception on the basis of such hints, even though it will forever remain a hypothesis."
Von Franz uses dreams, alchemy (Komarios to Cleopatra), and Egyptian mythology as exploratory tools to convincingly show that for the unconscious life after death is axiomatic.
Incredibly it seems the individuation process may continue after death!
Von Franzs style and elegance make this a book that you will want to read more than once. Also a very nice 8-page forward by Emmanuel Kennedy-Xypolitas.

This book teaches you how you can overcome negative or bad things that happened and that makes you feel down or depressed.
It shows that most of the time, when something happens, it can lead to a much better opportunity. So many inspiring examples
are given and shows you how uplifting it can be reading about famous people that went through struggles before they became
famous. Success-street is not easy-street! It is a highly recommended book, definetly worthwhile reading, especially when
things don't look they are going your way.

All polemics aside, I found this book fascinating. Its basic premise is that we can come to know more about perennial forms of desire by seeing how they are reflected, over and over, in imaginary works of art. It draws common themes from more than 3000 years of storytelling. As for Batman and Robin, they are fictional characters of course, so who knows if they are straight or gay. But as any half-decent reader or movie-goer knows, the meaning of a story will always depend upon the specific buttons it pushes in the person reading or viewing the work.
For many of us, Batman and Robin certainly remind us of a certain kind of gay relationship, even if their homosexual behavior is not as explicit as Zeus and Ganymede's was. And that daddy/boy thing is not the only kind of homosexuality, as Dr. Lingiardi, a Jungian analyst, clearly points out.
