I am a new fan to NASCAR, living in Sonoma, after watching my first race. I am totally hooked now. It's my favorite sport.
This book is worth it's weight in gold. It has stats and biographies on every driver currently driving in the Nextel, Busch
and Craftsman series. They have stats and bios of notable past drivers. It has everything you need to know about each racetrack,
including stats. It just has so much info it is just mind blowing!! This book, updated annually, is a MUST HAVE for ANY
NASCAR fan, and at such a great price too!!! I am constantly referring back to this tome. Oh yeah, and before I forget,
it has detailed expalations of NASCAR rules and cutaways of the cars and COT (car of tomorrow). Everything is explained here
in ample color diagrams and charts. It simply has everything. ANY FAN should get this book. Trust me, you will not be sorry
you did. I loved this so much I am going to get next year's version when it comes out. THIS BOOK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

I admit that I'm a very unique type of NASCAR fan. I love the drivers, love reading about them, checking out the standings,
and perusing all the gossip about their personal lives. I don't actually like watching the races. See, how odd is that?
Sure, occasionally I'll stumble into a room where the race is on television (thanks to my mom and stepfather, who are NASCAR
fanatics), but other than that I won't waste hours sitting down to watch cars drive in endless circles. But, okay, yes,
the crashes are kind of cool!
I was always a Dale Earnhardt fan. The number three car got my vote every time. When he died in a crash at the Daytona 500 on February 18, 2001, I was devasted--as were thousands upon thousands of NASCAR enthusiasts around the globe. The thing about NASCAR is that its devout fans come from every walk of life, from every part of the world, and they are a dedicated, loud-mouth bunch of people. They're also a family. When one of their "own" dies, as on that day when the racing world lost Dale Earnhardt, everyone mourned. Even fans who didn't like Earnhardt (and by that I mean they dared to cheer for another driver, like Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart), sadly and publicly grieved the loss of a legend.
Although I now root for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in the number eight car, I still remember his father with pride. I still look for memorabilia with that number three. I still read books like SPEED SHOW, which discuss NASCAR, its history, and the mark it's made on the racing world. Filled with numerous facts, figures, and full-color photos, SPEED SHOW is sure to delight any and all NASCAR fans, regardless of age. The legacy of "The Intimidator" lives on today, as well it should.
For an easy-to-read, fact-filled history of NASCAR, its drivers, and its fans, SPEED SHOW is the book you need.

The Newshounds in the Great Balloon Race was a hit with my third grade students. As an elementary school librarian, I am
always looking for the opportunity to reinforce curriculum topics in the library and when I can use a good story, all the
better. My students thoroughly enjoyed Isaac and his crew as they travelled to our state (Texas). The book is presented as
a "geography adventure" and includes suggested questions and activities from the author to assist in curriculum reinforcement,
but it is also an enjoyable and humorous story as well. The students enjoyed pouring over maps and locating the places in
the story. Being a former New Yorker myself, I enjoyed the opportunity to provide some information on the Hudson Valley (home
of the WDG-TV news team). My students all asked: "Where will the next "On the Trail" report be from?

Lauda hits the sweet spot with this book. You are taken behind the scenes of Formula 1 from an insider's insider. You learn
what it is like to drive for "The Old Man" Enzo Ferrari and Mclaren's Ron Dennis. What I found fascinating was how Lauda
applied his cold non-emotional approach to racing to his life in general. In days where superstar athletes are out 3 months
for a hamstring injury, Lauda was back racing after receiving "the last rights" from his near fatal crash at the Nurburgring.
If you love racing, you will love this book.

This is one of those books that influence young minds. I read it when I was in junior high, and then bumped into it here.
All sorts of memories came back to me after seeing the title. This is the second book in a series (Ive only read two and
dont know if there are any others), the first book being called the Wonderful Jalopy (also a neat car book). The Nothing
Special is about this car nut of a young man that has dreams of racing sports cars. This book takes place in the early 60's
when sports car racing was real big in California, and around the U.S. This guy decides to take all his friends to a race
in order to see if they also can catch the racing bug and help him sponser a race car. Well his friends all catch racing
fever and they all pitch in to buy a kit car (seemingly the cheapest way to accuire a "nice" race car). Anyway the car is
a nightmare to build and sets off all sorts of interesting adventures. Among other things getting their racing licences and
actually getting the thing to race ready trim. The book hits it's climax when they actually get to the "BIG" race. Its
a 24 hour monster, and the best driver of the bunch (the original car nut) is doing some driving for a Porsche team and there
is much loyalty and friendship at stake. In all its a great book about friends, girlfriend relationships and how cars ruin
them, and most of all the love of cars and how ordinary people can do extraordinary things. I must say the last page still
rings in my mind and heart even almost 21 years later. Its a really good read, even if it is geared more torward 15-18 year
olds :) Oh yea, the title comes from the name the car
nut's girlfriend gives her rival (like racing special)
