If you believe, as I do, that Gilles Villeneuve was the greatest driver of all time, then this book is a must. The photos are all of excellent quality, and there is just enough written information to keep you informed. This book, however, is aimed at those of us who know of Gilles exploits already, and of the tragedy of his untimely passing. Therefore it is all about enjoying the visual aspect of his exploits behind the wheel of racing cars, and remebering his brilliance.

Goodwood - A Dedication to Auto Racing

The Glory of Goodwood is a fabulous and essential book for any enthusiast of historic auto racing. This book, with its beautiful photographs, puts us in the paddock and onto the track with some of the greatest drivers and cars in the history of the sport. The book celebrates the beauty and art of auto racing, as well as its thrills and dangers. The images are rich and plentiful, but this is not simply a picture book. The essay (forwarded by Sterling Moss and The Earl of March) details 50 years of British auto racing at the Goodwood track and one man's fascination that evolved into a yearly cultural tradition dedicated to speed, the drivers, and their cars.

What a delightful, exciting book! We got it for our six-year-old grandson who got into the spirit of competition of this story like nothing we've seen to date! His bike is his most prized possession and following the ups and downs of this amazing adventure just thrilled him! We watched the men's triathlon at the olympics together and he shouted Go-Go-Go all through it and he vowed he would be in a bike race one day, just like Maurice. The fabulous illustrations abound on every single page and David Goldin, the illustrator, has a special eye for touching humor. Even when we're not reading the book with our grandson we see him looking through it on his own, discovering more hilarious hidden gems. This book leaves you feeling uplifted and full of optimism, knowing anything is possible when you put your mind to it, even if the odds are stacked against you. Go-Go-Go leaves kids wanting to go-go-go for the gold!

The Bettenhausens have to be the most hard-luck racing family in the history of auto racing and the Indianpolis 500. Father Tony was killed at the Indianapolis 500. Merle lost part of an arm in a crash at Michigan and Tony (Jr.) was killed in an airplane crash (along with his wife Shirley and 2 other people). This book is in my auto racing memorabilia collection and it should be in yours as well.

Graham's Just Cool

Let's put an end to the insulting notion that Graham Hill was just a determined plodder, shall we? None of us should rest until the putdown "He's a Graham Hill" has been transformed to mean, "He's a great champion, an unforced hipster, a man with bags of personality and charm--and a natty mustache."
OK, Jimmy was maybe a little faster sometimes, but who in the history of F1 can touch Graham's kind of cool? Certainly nobody from the last 15 years....
I bought this book as an Xmas present for a friend, but once I opened the Amazon box and started to read I just couldn't stop. I stayed up the whole night to read it cover-to-cover before wrapping it up and forcing myself to send it on its way.
I should have kept it.
But you don't have to be a rabid Hill fan to appreciate the quality here.
This era is unrivaled for the irresistible sense of fun and simple glamor. There is barely anything in this book that resembles F1 as it is practiced today. And the stakes were so much higher back then....
The book is large-format, and every page is packed with fascinating photos and racing memorabilia. You also get lots of first-person commentary on these photos from friends, his wife Betty and colleagues--this adds real immediacy to Graham's story. And you hear from no one as much as you hear from Mr. Hill himself, which really surprised me--I did not expect the book to carry so much autobiography. It's all wonderfully specific and colorful stuff--lots on the cars, the competition, the parties. The authors strike a great balance between the personal and the professional, with the behind-the-scenes anecdotes amplifying the detailed race-by-race documentation. We even get to see Hill's yearly Xmas cards, which are wonderful.
And they say there is a second volume to come!
A perfect tribute to Graham and the entire era--you'll dig it.

This massive size hardbound book is one of the few vintage books on the history of Grand National Stock Car Racing. The photos in the book are spectacular. The book measures 12 1/2 inches tall and 9 1/4 inches wide. It is now out of print in any form and has become quite a sought after piece of stock car racing memorabilia.

It doesn't contain much information about mountain bike tricks and stunts. It covers mostly cornering, types of corners and cornering tactics, but what's more important it will help you spend your "$10 attention bill" wiser.
I would suggest to read first "Mastering mountain bike skills" by Brian Lopez and Lee McCormack. Then train. When you're ready switch to this book. Learn how to use your attention, concentrate, plan your race, choose reference and timing points, visualize, read the course, make proper decisions beforehand, overcome psychological barriers, choose cornering tactic, analyze your mistakes, etc.
When you're done with it, buy and read "The Mountain Biker's Training Bible" by Joe Friel. Then train, rest, train some more, rest, train harder, rest, then race.
Happy riding.
