What a gem this book is!
If you love the Ford Capri then this book is for you.
Covers each model in detail and a section on racing Capri's too.No matter which mark Capri you love the this is the book for you.Even though this book doesnt have any colour photos the black & white photos still make this book worthwhile. And,the book still deserves 5 stars.

If you can find a copy of this book keep it.

The real "Great Race"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-12
The most authoritive book on this dangerous race, with hundreds of pictures of most of the cars involved. Stories from the many drivers are presented in well written text in their own words, accompanied with the rarest prestage, action, and accident photos of some of the early Nash, Studebaker, Ferrari, and Porsche race cars! Long out of print, this is definitly the best resource for the few years active for this race, the real "Great Race".

One of the Best and Hard to Find.....

I've had a near-mint copy of the book tucked away for years now among my racing library. The book is terrific. Most of the photos are black and white except for the center section that has about eight full color pages of the Cobras and Cobra Coupes. If you could find a decent copy at a resonable price, then it would be a must-have for a Shelby fan......or ANY racing fan. My own copy has been signed numerous times by Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, and Jim Hall. Needless to say, if I ever did want to sell it, I could probably get a few dollars for it!

A romantic look at the glory days of Grand Prix Racing
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-25
Long out of print and difficult to find, this was Daley's first book about Grand Prix racing in the late 50s and early 60s. Unlike Daley's other classic "The Cruel Sport" (recently reissued), which was primarily a photo essay supplemented by text, this book is entirely text. Daley's format is to write a chapter on each of the Grand Prix circuits of that era (Nurburgring, Monza, Silverstone, Zandvoort, Spa, Monaco, etc.), discussing each circuit's qualities, history, great races, controversies, and accidents.

Daley approaches each circuit anecdotally, often by focusing on the the triumphs and tragedies of a particular driver, e.g., the Marquis de Portago, Phil Hill, Stirling Moss, and Jean Behra, among others. Daley does NOT focus on the technical aspects of racing, or on the cars themselves, but on the drivers. He brings an almost mystical attitude to the sport, which will be as appealing to romantics as it will be off-putting to nuts-and-bolts types.

Daley situates the circuits in their historical and geographical context, always aware of the beauty and danger surrounding the sport, and how the sport has at times intersected with politics and the world beyond racing. For a romantic look at a Grand Prix world now passed into memory, you can't do better than this.

I would definately get this book if you own a BMC car. The book desribes how Austin and Morris merge to become one of the largest automobile manufacture in the 50's and 60's. Shows a historical dateline of all the cars Austin and Morris made including MG, Vaden Plas, Wosley and Riley. Ther's no other book like it!

This book gave some really great background on the cars in Gran Turismo. The section about the game itself was ok, but you're gonna buy this for the car info. The car information is good without being too technical, and you'll pickup all kinds of interesting info. The book is very nicely laid out, looks good, and it's an enjoyable read. It's definitely worth picking up.

Really does the job of telling the story

There are not a lot of great books for kids. I think this one should be on every families library shelf. It in some ways would be good reading for schools to. The story of cars teaches lessons about coming around and helping others. What young person would not learn to give more of him/herself after reading this?

Really, it teaches following through on promises made, becoming and being a friend, the complete opposite of selfishness. Wow, don't we need to hear more of this?

Great book and does the movie justice. Cars is a very positive story with a great ending.

A must for NASCAR Fans ....

Greg Fielden continues his outstanding work as one of the premier historians of Nascar Stock Car Racing. As with his earlier efforts; "Forty Years of Stock Car Racing - Volumes 1-5" and "Real Racers" ... Fielden's writing makes you feel as if you experienced some of the events he describes. I have visited many race tracks over the years, but never Charlotte ... 15 minutes of reading made me go check the race schedule for the upcoming season so I can witness some of the adventure that fills this book. If you're a Nascar fan, owning this book is a must ... if you are just generally a race fan (be it Champ Car, IRL, Stock Car or F1 as I am) you can't go wrong owning a copy.
