with some great stories thrown in to boot. This book recounts the colorful life of Mel Anderson, South Dakota rancher and businessman. He's a "real deal" cowboy, knowing the joys and deprivations of ranch life. As you read this book, you can picture Mel sitting at his dining room table telling you about his experiences and life. It's a great, fun read!

A concise, colorful history of the first 120 winners of America's most famous horse race. A short page story accompanies each lovingly done portrait. This lady knows how to draw horses--she doesn't pretty them up, she shows them how they are, beautiful enough without having to add any artificial ingredients. The stories are fascinating if you are a racing fan or like to read biographies of people and animals. The book is relatively inexpensive for art and history of this quality

Ms. Heywood has written a compelling story of a female athlete (runner) coming of age. She presents her memoir in a straight forward manner and does not hold back. She had a sexual relationship with her high school coach. She presents her story with all the emotional ambiguity I'm sure it carried. Ms. Heywood later struggled with an eating disorder. Again, this is presented in a very real manner. Ms. Heywood is also a very gifted writer. I found this book a compelling read and it should have a wide audience.

Awesome Training Supplement!

It's very important to me to maintain utmost integrity whenever I review a product, so in keeping with that, I'm going to explain what this audiobook offers by first explaining what it doesn't. You will not learn how to punch by listening to it. Obviously, it's not possible to learn how to perform any technique solely by having someone describe it to you verbally. You need to see it performed with your own eyes, as you can in Franco's DVD Armed to the Teeth, and you need to practice it, comparing your technique to what you see. But if you do know how to punch or are learning how because you've been trained or because you own Armed to the Teeth, then this audiobook will provide you with a huge amount of advice on how to keep your technique true and how to improve upon it. There are a great deal of nuances to each offensive strike that Franco discusses in detail, and when you visualize the technique in your mind while listening to the audiobook, you really come to understand exactly what it is you're doing and where you need to improve. Furthermore, throwing a punch a certain way doesn't mean you understand the theory behind it. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the theory but I learned a great deal by listening to this. Knowledge is power and anyone who wants to supplement their training with a convenient means of learning not only the "how" but the "why" of it and how it applies in the context of a street fight should buy this audiobook and listen to it multiple times.

Excellent Training for Beginners

This is a deceptively short (229 pages), remarkably rigorous and in-depth introduction to many of Word 2002's basic features. It gives you hands on examples of how to use these features and guides you through your first experience in doing them yourself. It forces you to explore different ways of accomplishing the same task so that you will have them in your arsenal when you are on your own. Upon completing this book, you will have learned, in short order, many essential business features of Word 2002. You will not be an expert in them, but you will be ready to take on meaty assignments with the software. Cosmetically, this book is sound as well. The pages are larger than your general computer book, the print is larger and easier to read, the graphics, while not full screen size, are large and clear enough so you can clearly see what they are referring to, and whenever they instruct you to click on an icon, a picture of it is featured in the outside margin next to the sentence making it very easy to find it on the screen itself. Finally, there are tasty little tidbits in the footnotes throughout the book. Unnecessary to read for the training exercises, they explore features beyond what is covered in the book itself giving you room to develop your skills on your own with your own examples. All in all an excellent introductory training manual that will get you up to speed in no time at all.

Racing a Ghost Ship is an excellent book for children ages 9-16. Adults will also enjoy this inspiring story of a man with severe asthma who planned a sailing adventure that would demonstrate to children and adults that challenges should not stand in the way of dreams. This story is well written and illustrated with large full page color photos. A great book for families and classrooms.

Margo Tamez disrupts the stereotypes and crafts poetry of haunting truth
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-06-16
If you're looking for spun sugar literary confection, and easy comfort, move on. But if you want to encounter
poetry that disturbs you in the best possible way, keeps you up at night, demands that you respond with your
heart and your mind, read both Naked Wanting and Raven Eye.

Margo Tamez is a poet whose work is not easy, clearly born of experience raw and real, making the reader touch that place of pain, of personal wounding far, far, away from the romance of the Southwest and the stereotype of the "stoic noble" on the rez. Her writing forces us to look where the bodies are buried, when we want to turn a blind eye to the violence wreaked upon the individual and environment. Both Naked Wanting and Raven Eye gave me that gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach, the tight, clenched first buried in the chest. Bless her for that.

And bless her, too, for somehow still weaving threads of redemption and reemergence in the face of soulbreaking sorrow, for offering real mythos and confronting false spirituality.

In Ceremony of Peyote, there is no easy, pro forma way to reconnect, no perfect prayer that can be prayed. Colonialism and racism have taken their tolls both in daily life and spiritual practice. But this poem reclaims and reframes ritual with afrank, and unvarnished fervor. Tamez refuses to shirk from the distorted in herself, or in her people. But in the boldest move, Tamez' poetry reveals that Spirit still lives, lives deeply for her in the body, in the process of birth and renewal and in the threads of communion that emerge despite everything.
