Fast Tracks and Fairy Tales is a unique clend of humor, classic literature and legendary NASCAR names that fans of all ages will enjoy.

I have found this to be one of the best introductory courses on the market. Although it was written in 1986 the material is still useful today. The author gives several examples of greeting and meeting people in a variety of settings. He even explains how the book should be studied to get the most out of the material. The text and the tapes ( highly recommended ) are well organized and structured. The topics are practical situations that one is likely to encounter visiting a Chinese speaking country. Some examples are introducing oneself, formal introduction and conversation, talking on the telephone and inviting people. There is one small issue to contend with, however. The tapes do not have pauses built in some of the exercises. So you have to stop your tape player to repeat what you have heard. But on a more positive note the text is loaded with extensive practice sentence patterns and substitution drills. This course is a very useful addition to any self study Chinese language library .

I love all these people's books. They make learning so fun & easy, you don't even wish you had a face-to-face teacher. Even the simplest tunes are fun.

somthing really important about the book that was never mentioned is the book is in Spanish... its a spanish book.... which is fine if you are latino......

This book is great if you are just starting out on guitar. It is useful if you want to be self-taught as well as to give you extra practice if you are taking formal lessons. This is the only book I've found that can really teach you how to play. It goes from the basics and works up slowly. If you buy this one first, you'll save yourself alot of money and trouble.

The book starts off simply, with information on notes, measures, beat, and a simple guide on how to read music. After that, it teaches you the basics of playing keyboard and eventually moves onto chords, scales, and other things of importance.

I highly reccomend this book to anyone that wants to teach themself keyboard or piano.

Great book! one of my Favorites.

Begins with an intro which covers generalizations about tracking animals in snow, and even covers how to preserve tracks made in snow. Pencil drawings provide clear detail and pix of the animal as well as its tracks. Range maps included (book covers USA. A good balance between adequate coverage and so much info that you become overwhelmed. This is good for beginner to intermediate trackers. Book is focused on mammals. Only one spread on birds. This book is standard gear on my winter hikes.

Roger Bannister competed only eight years in the sport of track and field, but what a legacy he left. Bannister builds up to his historic sub-4:00 minute mile run, the first man to break such a barrier. It's more than just a running book. Bannister writes poetically of his childhood and in great detail of his Oxford years.

Truly a renaisance man, Bannister is one who never puts running ahead of his medical studies and he maintains a balanced life, something most athletes today do not do.

It's really the fantastic writing that moves this book. One would think Bannister is a professional author, not a then-med student/runner. But he eloquently describes the build up to the Olympics and later the sub-4:00 minute mile, concluding with a marvelous recap of his showdown with Landy at the Empire Games in Vancouver.

It's been dubbed by some as the finest running book out there and I'd have to agree with that.

* Apparently the book's name has been changed to The Four-Minute Mile. I think this name is better, but it's still great writing.

I read this book to my six-year-olds and they were spellbound. By the end of the story I was bawling, but the author did such a wonderful job describing the hero and his courage that they understood why and felt the emotion, too.

I love the story of Phidippides and through this book, my boys now love it. The illustrations are a bit cartoonish, but it holds their attention and doesn't detract from the story. They have asked for it to be read many times and when we go to the gym they 'run a marathon'.

I'm so glad there's a book which makes the courage, bravery and nobility of Phidippides accessible to children. Most teens and adults would enjoy this book as well as it easily explains the story without dumbing it down.

Read it. And then go running!
