Pennies on the Tracks is a collection of enjoyable short stories. I was delighted to find stories that caused me to think deeply about my past, stories that made me smile and stories that reminded me of happenings in my own life that I had long forgotten.
I particularly enjoy stories that have a surprise ending, such as, "Winesaps."
I will not tell you what this story is about as it would ruin the surprise element, but trust me it is a story you will remember for the rest of your life, especially if you are a hunter. Could this tale be true? You tell me. Excellent job Mr. Ingram.
The book is written in the good old fashion storytelling way, with the author weaving his tales in and out and wrapping them around your heart and mind; making you feel as if you are a participant in each story. Indeed, you are on that train, in that cave and holding that gun, as you become engrossed in the very core of the workings of each character. Well done!
Pennies on the Tracks is full of adventure, mystery, laughter, nostalgia, and even a smell of the supernatural. A short read full of tantalizing tidbits of literary enjoyment. I recommend this work to those who would like to take a ride on the rolling rail of an excellent read, that you will remember as you continue on your journey, that we call life.

This book review is different, because Power Tools:
Top Executive Coaches Put You on the Fast Track to Success
is different. The brainchild of Ann Mah, a Legislator in State of
Kansas, in her spare time brought nineteen of the best Business &
Personal Coaches to share their insights, in one chapter. "Success
is what you do in your spare time."
The result is a three-part focus with six chapters in each section:
essential tools for managers, tools to build winning teams, and high
impact leadership. For the reason that this is a multi-authored book
gives it a special diversity of solid viewpoints, but on a far-reaching
area of topics: from giving and receiving feedback, office politics for women, career management (hang on for the ride!), to foreign service etiquette and an amazing array of foundational leadership skills for success.
If you struggle upon occasion with the "boss" or as the leader, struggle
with your employees, the book is a must-read. At just 227 pages and the
suggested $14.95 price, it's a steal for your library - or gift to your boss!
In the back of the book are more pages of resources for personal-development minded people representing the 18 coaches superb products. The book may change your paradigm -- your pattern of thinking -- about supervision, management and leadership -- lessons that often spillover to your personal life quality.

It took a lot of guts for Gail to write this book. Wonderfully crafted, this is a majestic tale of the history of Nascar, whether they like it or not! Gail obviously plowed straight ahead, didn't let anything stop her, and the final product blew me away. Great, in-depth research ... North Carolina is proud of Gail's guts to write it how she saw it. I think every Nascar fan needs to buy a copy of this book and read it! Every last one of them! For that matter, I'm wondering if Jr., Gordon, Petty, Stewart, and the rest of those good ole' boys have read this book? If not, they're missing out on a well-told piece of their own history. Well done,Gail. Bravo.

That's the only way to describe my copy of this book. It's been thumbed through and pored over so much over the past ten years that I fully expect it to give up the ghost and start dropping pages any day now. When I first found this book at Joseph Beth Booksellers, I sat down and paged through it in the store. I found it interesting, but I wasn't particularly convinced of the need for it in my collection, mostly due to its size. As the weeks passed, I began to think of things I'd wished I'd looked at with more and more regularity until I found myself at a near fever pitch to get back and buy it. When I finally did, it wasn't there. I eventually managed to get a copy, but now when I see books of this kind, I know to get them on the spot. Another great piece of music reference that I highly recommend if you have an interest in the subject or might develop one later in the day.

I bought this book almost (wow) 5 years ago when it went to press, and plus it was my second Record Research book to own. I own a lot of Record Research books now, and this is the definite guide to album tracks that never made the Hot 100, or in any other format. You can find the complete (yet outdated) listings for U2, AC/DC, REM, Psychedelic Furs, you name it.

While looking for the book Mysterious Persons In History by Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff at a bookstore, I happened upon Running Is For Me. This is another book by Fred Neff, who is a lawyer from Edina, Minnesota which I thought my niece might enjoy. This book on running sends all the right messages to the reader. It tells the story of a young boy and girl who are friends and practice running together. Their mentors are a grown man and woman. The four share their running adventures together. The theme and composition of this story by author Fred Neff is excellent. Here we see both genders getting along well as equals and sharing experiences as they grow in skill and friendship. It also shows how children and adults from different genders can share fun activities like running together. I really like the interplay between the characters of the story. This same wholesomeness is reminescent of what I have read in other books by attorney Fred Neff of Minnesota. This Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff adds a human touch to his books that shows great sensitivity. Reading many of author Fred Neff's books led me to want to find out more about him. Fred Neff, who is an attorney in Edina, Minnesota has written books that at times have a unique mix of humanism, logic, justice orientation, law, physical culture, philosopy and martial arts. It is true that sometimes an author reveals much about his own background in his writing; author Fred Neff has been a secondary teacher in a public school system in the twin cities of Minnesota and an instructor at a number of colleges such as the University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Hamline University and Inver Hills College. Later Fred Neff attorney acted as a prosecutor and then a criminal defense counsel. Fred Neff lawyer of Edina, Minnesota has handled discrimination and fraud cases. In addition, Fred Neff was on the board of directors of an insurance company. Edina Minnesota lawyer Fred Neff has experience in criminal and civil litigation. What I read about Fred Neff showed me that the breadth of his experience comes through in the humanism and desire for justice and fair play reflected in his writings. Gender equality and respect for others shines through in Running Is For Me and makes it a book that can be enjoyed by male and female readers. This book by Fred Neff is so good that I plan on buying another copy to give as a gift to my nephew.

In high school and in college I participated in running events. I have continued to run almost daily since graduating from college. Up until recently, neither my boy nor girl showed any interest in sports and refused to take a run with me. While rummaging through some books that were for sale, I happened upon two storybooks for children by Fred Neff. One was the story of a mother and daughter who shared an interest in running and the other is about a girl who takes Karate lessons. The storybook entitled Running Is For Me was intriguing. I bought that book for my children to see if it would make one or both of them willing to try running. They thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. I was delighted when at dinner they discussed taking a run with me. Since then, we take short runs as a family. My children liked the running book so much that I bought a copy of the other storybook called Karate Is For Me by the same writer. Again, they loved the book. I went on to get them other books by Fred Neff such as his Basic Karate Handbook and Lessons From the Japanese Masters. Both my children are now taking karate lessons and are active in other sports. Their involvment in karate has really built their self-confidence. I was able to locate another copy of Karate Is For Me and sent it to my niece as a present. The book similarly led to her involvment in karate as well. I love the story in Running Is For Me and the book's ability to spark children's interest in sports. It gets a platinum rating from me.

Breaks running down into 7 time periods from I. Running by Pre-and Early Humans (5,000,000-200,000 BC) all the way to VII The Modern Superstars (1950-2000). Covers the history of running spicing in some great biographies within the stories. Learn about the famous 20th century stars like Carl Lewis, Emil Zatopek and Haile Gebresilasie as well as obscure 19th century runners like George Seward, Harry Hutchens and Amy Howard.
Details how running began, the ancient Olympics, running naked, improvements in time keeping, all sorts of things that most runners never even think of. Running Through the Ages has great illustrations and excellent writing style. Ed Sears has really done his research. Whether you are a runner or simply a sports fan, I highly recommend this book. Not just track fans but all "serious" sports fans should pick up a copy of this great work!

An Inspiring and Exciting History of Running

Running Through the Ages is the most absorbing historical account of running and runners I have read. Its scope is wider than anything previously attempted, ranging from prehistory to the end of the twentieth century, and taking in professional running for men and women as well as the more familiar amateur era that dominated the last century. It is supported by hundreds of rare illustrations, most of which will be new, even to historians of the sport. There is a six-page bibliography and a comprehensive index. Edward Sears is a runner himself, and he wrotes with insight and enthusiasm as well as the skill of a storyteller. His section on George Seward, "The American Wonder", is a revelation. There are superb assessments of athletes as varied as Deerfoot, Arthur Duffey, Paavo Nurmi, Helen Stephens, Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Bill Rodgers, Buddy Edelen and Haile Gerbrselassie, for this author has the deep knowledge of the sport to give credit to great and lesser names. All the great races are vividly described and the dramas of the Olympic arena expertly chronicled. This is a fine, inspiring and articulate book. I don't merely recommend it to anyone interested in the sport; I urge you to read it.

After spotting many different animals on my property in this area, and finding countless more "scats & tracks" all over the area, I decided to learn a little about what was roaming my yard when I was not looking.
For this purpose, scats & tracks has been invaluable at helping to identify the creatures, small and large, that roam the area of the south-central coastal region of California.
It has illustrations sized-to-life, and is small enough to carry in a pouch as a feild guide. Much recommended.

This small field guide supposedly covers the extreme western United States, but many of the animals illustrated also range into the the Northern Rockies and western Canada so this book is useful for most of western North America. There are two pages for each of the 70 mammals, birds and reptile/amphibians. Every animal has a small-scale range map, overall sketch, sketch of its droppings, large sketch of forward and rear footprints and a sketch of the pattern left by several footprints. I found the latter especially useful since many times the individual tracks are not too clear, especially in sand or dry snow, but the track pattern provides a positive identification. This lightweight, pocket-sized format makes it convenient to carry. Highly recommended for hikers, campers and nature buffs.

Joy Harjo perfect words to Stephen Strom's photos

Joy Harjo is a multi-talented artist - poetry and music (with Poetic Justice) available. Here she has paired her words to Stephen Strom's photographs. His photographs of landscapes have an unusual and very effective use of colors ... many reminding me of the softness of watercolor or pastels.
Joy Harjo has provided text - somewhere between prose and prose poems - that engage the accompanying photographs to create a mythic sense. For example a photo of rose-tinted desert sand with no sky (Overlook west of Tuba City)is accompanied by "Two sisters meet on horseback. They gossip: a cousin eloped with someone's husband, twins were born to his wife. One is headed toward Tsaile, and the other to Round Rock. Their horses are rose sand, with manes of ashy rock."
An excellent book.

Nowhere have I read poetry that so completely encompasses the Native American view of the connectedness of all things. Harjo's writings, coupled with Steven Strom's photography of
"Indian country" make this a book that I read over and over, each time drawing something new. It is one of the only books I've ever read that convinces me that language is "alive", as alive as we are, as alive as the shoulder bone of a mountian, as alive as a comet which streaks its way across the sky. It is my favorite book. Period.

The second part of the series concentrates on shorter distances (800m to 5,000m/5miles). Along with general information and discussions the most useful part of the book are the practical day-by-day 10-week schedules. The schedules are very specific - depending on time goals, initial preparation and the distance. Excellent book!

This book gives you everything you want and more! I followed this closely when I had a crummy track coach in high school and my times ended up being exactly at the race pace I was training for. I have used these workouts in coaching as well and have seen great success with them. A lot of the books that come out nowadays are just commentaries on runners--this one gives you the year-round training schedules you've been looking for.

By Danny Lee Ingram
Writing short stories is not an easy task. I have read some of our best known writers including Hemmingway, Atwood, and many others and have not found much to brag about. One reason I am not always eager to read them. When I say that Danny Lee Ingram has mastered this art beautifully, that is no small compliment for his accomplishment.
I have read "Pennies On The Tracks" and must say these are the best short stories I have ever had the pleasure to read. Mr. Ingram is a master and these stories capture his artistry with precision. In a single page he can make you laugh, cry or feel deeply disturbed. To do this with so few words written is pure genius.
Anyone who loves to read and enjoys a well written book absolutely must buy and read this book.
