Review Date: 2006-06-25
This book is a bibliography of the literature of film and television. It has a listing of some 1244 books on the film and television industry. The entries are broken down into categories such as journals, country, genres, formats, studios, ethnic groups, gender and sexual orientation, making films, fans, and more.

Note that this book does not contain information on these subjects, it contains references to books or other publications that have information on these subjects. As such it is intended to be of use to the serious researcher or to librarians.

Each entry contains a standard reference giving the title, author, publication information and a short description of the book. This book is an updated version of the now twenty year old Kim Fisher book. It is updated to late 2005.

This is one of an excellent series encouraging critical thought.

Short enough to be used with third graders but insightful enough to yield info for adults, and also a pleasant read.

A good general overview without the unnecessary boosterism of most of the texts on the subject.

A great book on interactive TV

After reading the book I realized the potential of Interactive TV. Indeed broadcasters have to tighten the belt and reorient their business plan if they want to survive in the changing world of broadcasting. The book provides great insights in the things to come, the system of interactive TV and the market potential. This is a must for all the people who have anything to do with the broadcasting.

I bought this book for my 20-year-old grandson to go with the Sony broadband radio I gave him for Christmas. He found this book helpful as he explores a fascinating journey into the world of broadband radio.

This is good, but the Net is better

This is a good review of SWLing and pirate radio, but the Internet is better.

Of particular notice is the typeface selected by the publisher. It is bizarre--meant as a display typeface, I'm sure. The effect is that this book is almost impossible to read and frankly, it hurts my eyes.

Superb and riveting book on 'Pirate Radio'!

As an avid SWL (shortwave listener) and Ham Radio Operator, I could not put this book down! It is very well researched, with excellent illustrations and photos. It also comes with an audio CD with clips of many various 'pirate radio' transmissions. Popular frequencies where you can actually hear some of these stations are listed, and I was able to pull in a few the first night of listening! Highly recommended, and highly interesting!

Great for free radio lovers

I did buy the book and I have been reading it completely.
And I did learn my friends. I am a pirate radio operator for years but still nice things to find out about Pirating. I like it a lot and also nice to see how other stations are doing it and finding out about their history's.
Also the book to buy if you want to tune in to al kinds of pirate radio like TV,hf,vhf, internet,fm. You name it.

Having read this dictionary from the beginning to the end more than once, I could not avoid being impressed by the attention to detail and precision of the definitions which indicates Moshkovitz's breadth of comprehension of the professional terminology he defines so well. I believe that the inclusion of illustrations would have enhanced the look and feel of the book. I understand that a new book by Moshkovitz is due out in April and am curious to see how he deals with his new subject "The Virtual Studio"

This is a wonderful book because it teaches you how valuable it is to have a fair trial, but also the importance of having freedom of the press. This book gives you an insight into the courts where justice will made and how the press will always be a part of our courts, because with out this privilege many citizens would lose the opportunity to see justice in the making. It's a book that will teach you how these two subjects can coexist and make our courts prosperous and by the end of the book one is able to see that justice has been made.

Digital Broadcasting
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-13
I am surprised by the amount of errors and typos in this book! How such erroneous books pass the publishing checkpoints and gets published, is certainly a question to ask. The organization of the book is very scattered. Especially the Digital transmission section has many errors and only selective parts of the technology is explained and outlined. The explanations and discussions on the broadcasting system block diagrams are incomplete and adds to the confusion of the reader. I believe the book needs to go under a major revision until it becomes useful for average readers. Nevertheless since the book tries to cover a wide spectrum of DVB subjects, it could be considered as a starting point to motivate readers to go and find out more about the subjects that were only mentioned very briefly in the book.
