John's excellent book details all the elements of a satellite TV system and how it functions. In this book he has brought together some of the best people in the technical side of the industry to explain how each element works.

It includes calculation of many of the critical performance requirements against specific components of the receiving system. This leads to a basic but workable link budget calculation for a typical direct to home satellite link.

A superbly written and organized instruction manual for judging entrees of any and all breeds of dogs
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

A seasoned and experienced all-breed judge and past Chariman of the Board of the American Kennel Club, Robert Berndt also draws upon his many years of experience as a dog handler in "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique", a superbly written and organized instruction manual for judging entrees of any and all breeds of dogs either in general or in specialized dog shows and competitions. Properly judging dogs requires a detailed and accurate knowledge of breed Standards and type, as well as an expertise in canine anatomy, physiology, and topology. "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique" is an ideal and substantial 276-page, step-by-step, illustrated introduction for the novice judge, and has a great deal of value to offer even the more experienced judges. "Judging Dogs: Science And Technique" is also a critically important reference for anyone entering their dog into competition so they, as a dog owner and/or handler, will know what to expect and prepare for.

Andy Sansom is a well known Texas conservationist. I had the pleasure of meeting him recently and he is an engaging speaker. His book, Scout, the Christmas Dog is a heartwarming tale that will appeal to anyone who loves animals, especially labs! Andy eloquently puts into words the emotions all pet lovers feel when faced with the loss of a cherished companion.

This book would make a wonderful gift for anyone on your Christmas list who is a hunter, dog lover, or nature lover. Highly recommended.

An enduring classic of modern satire & family life
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-09
Hey, they're letting me post a review. Cool. I didn't publish this fine novel (J. Bennett, window-washer, of Vagabond Press did) but it sure is one of the best out there. I do help keep it alive by reselling copies that I find.

Jack writes a book a month online at http://TheDailyBulletin.com---he's been working live and without a net, since, well, before the PC. I publish some of Jack's work at http://OutYourBackdoor.com. And the ULA (Underground Literary Alliance) advocates for gaining Jack mainstream access at http://LiteraryRevolution.com.

So... I'll let Prof. Jack Remick (U. Wash.) speak for SCREED, so I won't be accused of bias: "What makes Screed such a dangerous book is that it rolls back the cover of a reality to establish once and for all a new way of looking at narrative. Saunders simply and effortlessly calls into question everything you think you know about novel writing and narrative structure. [ ] The piece I quoted has all the rhythmic essence of Beowolf."

I'll add this, too, for balance: "Zero on a scale of 1 to 10," Florida arts grants panelist.

...Which was followed by a postcard from a secretary at the grants office: "Keep it up. They hate you here."

What could it mean? How could such an UNKNOWN book get such reactions? Did you see the editorial remarks? And not a single mainstream review. Anyone ever hear of SUPPRESSION? It's not just a Soviet relic.

For something really new and different, yet totally accessible, family-oriented with contemporary music and movie and food criticism, and a wild storyline, try Jack.

Welcome to the novel. It's all new.

A great book for Theatre

I know David Kahn and when he gave me this book to read for my script analysis class, it opened my eyes one how a play writen and why the writer made the choices he made. This book helps you take new scripts and break them down so they can be produced for stage or film. This book is great for actors when they first pick up a script to their rehearsals. It helps for directors when they discover the event chain of the play and character chain of the play. For set desginers when they discover the world of the play of the character. Also it helps for writing because you can see examples of these things in the workings of a completed play. This great book because it's easy reading. Another great tool for those in theatre.

The Setter, by Edward Laverack, is a must read for anyone interested in English Setters and the development of modern Setters. Laverack was one one of the seminal creators of today's Setter in Britain and North America. His discussion of the fine points of the breed and of Setter strains which existed during and prior to the 19th century make for fascinating reading. This book also features several fine additional articles by editor Lynn Hamilton. Highly recommended.

More than just a "pretty" breed...
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-28
This book goes far beyond the idea that Shelties are "just pretty, fluffy dogs." Joanne highlights the intelligence and workability of this delightful breed-she covers almost all areas of dog performance sports that Shelties excel in: Obedience, Agility, Herding, Flyball, Tracking, Search & Rescue, Therapy dogs (and she may be working on another book! ) and not only covers top Shelties in each of these areas, but interviews the owners/handlers/breeders for their training tips and their dogs'lineage. Great info on how to get started in each venue, great photos, and a great tribute to a hardy, versatile, smart AND beautful breed!
