Breeds Books

I have had dogs all my life, but never Miniature Pinschers, so I decided to check them out before buying one. This book has EVERYTHING you will need to know- and she writes in a very easy to read and understand style. Definitely read this if you are getting a Min Pin- your pupper will thank you for it!

What a wonderful little book. I believe it was written around 1900, when the countryside was a freer place. The contents bring back so many memories of my formative years in the English countryside. I have read other titles by this author who was a well known hunting man, but this is a book I can really identify with. He writes with a passion on all manner of country sports, many of them long vanished. Many of these pastimes will be new to most readers. Even I, who spent most of my boyhood free time hunting, stalking, fishing and ferreting, thought I could learn nothing new. That was until I discovered the authors interest and advice on such unusual pursuits as hawking insects with jackdaws, sniggling eels, beetle fighting, millipede racing, wiring pike, hedgehog hunting, squirrel hunting, netting sparrows, to name just a few. Of course there is much discussion of more recognisable field sports such as rabbit, badger and rat hunting,pigeon shooting, fox, hare and otter hunting etc but all are written about in such a manner as to stir many nostalgic memories in older readers such as myself, and also to teach younger ones some new and unusual methods of taking their quarry. I can thoroughly recommend this book and I am sure it will excite the interest of all true countrymen whatever their age.

This is the best book I have found in all of my efforts to research this magnificent breed. It's loaded with tons of information. I recommend this to anyone interested in the history of the Morgan.

Book interesting, good use of characters. Didn't see how he was going to pull it together but the plot kept me running through pages till the very end. Stay with the book for the first twenty pages and then it really moves.

One of the best airedale books written by 40+ year veteran breeders. Chapters include information on the breed today, both here and abroad, reports of specific medical developments, whelping, and the versatility of the Airedale as a hunting dog, obedience performer, show dog, and family companion.

I have recently purchased this book (Feb.99). In addition to "The New American Eskimo" I also have all other books that have been published to date on the American Eskimo breed. I can honestly say that this particular book is by far the best book on this breed yet! No other publication has the research and history supplied for this breed. If you are interested in this breed, are new to the breed or even if you are a veteran this book will have lots of information you can use. I am very greatful to both Nancy Hoffman and Cathy Flamholtz for the work and dedication that has gone into this book.

This is a collection of cartoons, mostly single panel, collected by editor Jay Kennedy, but by different artists.
What they have in common is a twisted sense of humor that reminds me very closely of Gary Larson's The Far Side.

I loved Far Side, and this little book made me fall out of my chair more than once, and groan out loud more than that.
