One of the best westerns I've read

Ethan Grey is one of those displaced persons of which the West had more than its share but he fits into it seamlessly as much
at home as a mesquite tree or a wild mustang. A Pinkerton, he is also a chameleon who can come across as a professor or a
geezer, who takes many names and plays many roles, but as you read the book you become aware that he is always true to the
picture he has of himself. A lone curly wolf, he somehow acquires a 12-year old partner and later an Irish-Navajo Mexican
lady friend who will eventually become Mrs. Grey but that is another story. Ethan is on the trail of a gang that pulled a
Wells-Fargo robbery and enroute to finding these robbers and recovering the money, he meets many interesting people and has
some great adventures. By the end of the book, the problems have been solved and Ethan has acquired a family. I've not done
this book justice. Mort is a worthy successor to Max Brand, Louis L'Amour, and Zane Grey and other great western writers.
The Lawless Breed has a prequel, Showdown at Verity. If you liked this book, you will certainly want Showdown. Hopefully,
Mort has other adventures in store for Ethan Grey.

A lawyer whose love of animals influences her legal practice

Linda Cawley is a lawyer who loves animals. She brings this care and concern to the courtroom as she describes the many legal
cases involving animals in which she has participated. Often humorous but always serious, this account describes a major but
often forgotten area of litigation. The witty and superb writing style makes reading this book an enjoyable experience.
The cases described provide a wealth of knowledge about the practice of canine law. It makes a beagle proud to have its breed
name associated with this area of legal practice.

When I bought my Lhasa Apso, this book kept me from freaking out! It does an excellent job of explaining the breed and all
the challenges (and joys!) of owning one of these wonderful dogs. I use this book as my Lhasa "Bible" and it has helped me
raise a healthy and very happy little puppy!

Browntrout publishes the wall calendar for light golden retriever lovers. This listing is out-of-date. However, Browntrout
will be releasing their new 2006 calendars about this time of year. If we are in luck they will be releasing a new 2006 wall
calendar filled with photographs of the light golden retriever.

The book starts out talking about the problem of predation, describing the range and hunting habits of predators. There are
sections on lethal and non lethal methods of control, including a section on effective fencing. The book then goes on to talk
about guardian animals, predominantly dogs. There is a section that describes 31 different breeds of livestock guardian dogs,
giving some history, appearance, and character/temperament info on each breed. Each section talks about selection, training
and management of guard animals, the pros and cons of the animals and solving problems with the animals (such as aggression
towards the family pets). Interspersed throughout the book are reports by shepherds on what has worked for them. I found this
book to be very useful, and recommend it to anyone considering a livestock protection animal.

We are new owners of a German Shepherd dog and I have been shopping around for a good info book.
I had three from the bookstore but picked this one.
It covers everything from picking the right pup from the litter to euthanasia in old age.
I thought it was excellent in discribing the temperment of the dog and why they do what they do (guard and herd).
It also shows what shepherd's are capable of learning and how to get there.
We haven't tried it yet....

This book has heart warming accounts from the owner's of different Spaniel breeds, making it a personable book. About the
Welsh Springer Spaniel, "Beware of the Welsh Springer's Houdini-like qualities-he is remarkably agile and inventive when it
comes to escaping. Climbing ladders, opening doors, and leaping over fences are all part of his repertoire", writes the author.
Julia Barnes did a good job. There are plenty of heart warming and beautiful photographs, very important for the would be Spaniel owner such as moi.
Very important in 2007, the author informs on "Health Concerns" for each Spaniel breed. With the English Springer Spaniel for example, the author writes under Health Concerns, "Canine rage syndrome: This condition, where the dog becomes aggressive momentarily-and for no apparent reason, has been seen in some American-bred dogs. To date, diet change and hormone therapy have proved the most effective treatments."

GREAT LITTLE BOOK, GREAT LITTLE PRICE1

This handy guide is well organized, factual and contains a lot of pertinent information specific to longhaired cats. All
this for an affordable price! The basics in cat care, health, immunization, nutrition and grooming are contained in this
book, along with some cute coloured photographs. Not that longhaired cats differ greatly from shorthaired cats in general
cat care; however, certainly the grooming requirements are more laborous and you do need the right tools of the trade to work
with. One item that I have found to be of tremendous value that was not mentioned here was a "detangling comb," a wide-spaced
steel comb to remove mats, which can be purchased at any pet supply. This is a great little book at a great little price.

For each of the 7 breeds there is an extensive history, physical description, behavior profile & current status. The photos capture the character & personality of the horses in their natural settings.
There are athletic mustangs of the American west, primitive horses of Asia & Europe, rugged British ponies, beautiful white horses of the Camargue in France, & a hardy band braving the winter on Canada's Sable Island.
Packed with large color photos, this book will be a unique & treasured addition to any horse lover's library.
